For those who love modern architecture and design it’s a great experience.
Pros:

It’s exceptionally located in the middle of rice fields. Beautiful restaurant/breakfast location with awesome views of the rice fields and the mountain range. The architecture is great, albeit a bit sterile.
The public baths change everyday between men and women and if you are lucky and have the outward facing one, it is a wonderful experience.
The breakfast buffet is mostly locally sourced and very tasty.

Cons:

The concept of this hotel favors the architecture and design over practicability. For example: the front desk is located on the second floor and there is no visible reception when you arrive at the hotel.
Long ways, a bit of a maze.
The air condition is installed in a way that it blows directly on the bed.

Definitely the best hotel I have stayed at win Japan (and this is my fourth trip), and probably the best I have stayed a
Pros:

Everything was amazing - the Shigeru Ban Architecture lying low and embedded in the surrounding rice paddies; the massive and numerous windows that constantly bring your attention to long views down corridors that frame distant mountains, the subtle use of light and shadow, the variable textures throughout- all of this lead to an automatic sense of calm and feeling of well being - and that’s before using the beautiful onsen spaces (3 in total), or the amazing farm to table degustations or traditional Japanese breakfast buffet overlooking rice fields and the real star of the show, sacred Gassan, Moon Mountain. And all the time looked after by wonderful staff who were truly willing to go the extra mile to provide an amazing experience- they succeeded!

Cons:

Nothing everything was great - maybe the dryers in the laundry could be improved!

Pros:

Everything, from the architecture, to the onsen, to the dinner was exceptional! Such a peaceful place!

Cons:

For breakfast I would have loved few more non-Japanese options, but I think it’s fine :)

A great place to stay
Pros:

Extremely helpful staff . Great food with seasonal ingredients. Interesting library books as part of relaxing environment of hotel .

Cons:

The main onsen was good , which opened to the outside and was a great temperature. It rotated one day for men, and the next for women , so on alternate days the secondary onsen was indoors and enclosed and the water was too hot

Designer hotel in unique setting
Pros:

Lovely designer building with a fabulous library. This was a highlight. We spent hours looking through art books and there are many books and comfortable crannies to read. Excellent public spaces to hang out - but not a place where you would feel comfortable eating your take out food in public. Good onsen with indoor and outdoor baths and sauna. Very nice PJs and slippers provided. Really unique setting. You are paying for a feeling of exclusivity and arty uniqueness. The library is excellent if you like art and/ or architecture.

Cons:

For the price, rooms are functional. Found the double bed a little small. And you pay premium prices if you want a view. Not really many restaurant options in the area. There is a restaurant on site, but there is only the option of 2 set menus. We didn’t eat there - the smells from the kitchen were appealing but it is pricey. But many come here it seems for the cooking with local products. Designer furniture made with cardboard tubes looks good in photos but the tubes on the chair in our room had the propensity to fall off every time we picked it up. Oh and upgrade from booking.com on our second day was not honoured by the hotel. A little disappointing in this regard.
