The hotel itself is well designed and our children enjoyed the experience. Unfortunately, our stay was seriously affected by a failure in guest communication at check-in, which resulted in an avoidable parking penalty of DKK 995.

We are international guests travelling from Brazil. On arrival, the parking area is located within the hotel grounds, immediately in front of the building and accessed through the hotel entrance. In our home country, and in every other hotel we stayed at during this trip, a car park in that position is part of the accommodation and requires no separate registration. We therefore had no reason to assume otherwise.

At no point during check-in were we informed that the car park is operated by a third party, that a time limit applies, or that a parking disc or app registration is required. The staff member handling our check-in provided no orientation whatsoever on this matter, and her manner throughout was unhelpful and dismissive. A single sentence at the desk — or a note handed over with the key cards — would have prevented the entire situation.

The penalty was issued on 30 July. As soon as we understood how the system worked, we went to the machine and paid the parking fee voluntarily, without being asked to do so. We consider this evidence of good faith: we were never attempting to avoid payment, we simply did not know payment was required.

We raised the matter with the duty manager, Tim, who declined to address it in person and asked us to send an email instead. The reply we received offered no resolution and no acknowledgement of the hotel's role in the situation.

Our point is not the amount of money. It is that a hotel hosting a large volume of international families has a basic duty to inform guests of a paid, third-party-enforced car park located on its own premises. The omission was the hotel's; the consequence fell entirely on the guest.

Pros:

Outside playgrounds (3!) were an unexpected bonus.
Food at the Knights Tavern buffet was surprisingly good.
Room decor was amazing and rooms are large and well laid out.
Location across the street from Legoland was Practical.

Cons:

Fairly pricey for the standard of the room but worth it for a special Experience with young children.
