Good location is the only positive.
Shower door is so narrow that the bathroom floods, no tea or milk or sugar in room, and never filled up by housekeeper, curtains tiny and need eye mask to keep out light, towels are small and not bath towels, have to hold button on drier to use it, shockingly incessant noise from above roo., and only serve cold breakfast. Not sure how this place gets 4 stars or what the criteria is, but it's a 2 star b&b at best by UK standards.
FYI - The age of a building is not an excuse for a poor room that badly needs updating, and shocking noise that prevents you from sleeping. The owner will tell you otherwise,.

This is a lovely "boutique" hotel located in the old town of Salzburg. The family that runs it does a great job! The breakfast options were extensive and delicious. (This is not a hot breakfast). The place is very clean and the beds are comfortable, though the rooms are a bit small. But this is to be expected at this type of lodging.
The bathroom in our room had translucent glass panels from about 5 feet up, to the ceiling. This doesn't provide the best privacy to the guests sharing a room.
The fellow at the desk was not very helpful in recommending restaurants in the area-- he should brush up on that!
Close to everything, clean, very friendly staff
The only thing that is good about this hotel is the location - it is quite close to most of the famous spots in the old town and there are always people walking around so you don’t have to worry about your safety.
This is a 4-star hotel that doesn’t live up to the standards of a 4-star hotel in Austria, and I would not recommend it to anyone who wants to stay in Salzburg. I have stayed at multiple 4-star hotels in Austria, and this is by far the worst.
The staff are not properly trained—using their hands to “clean” the dining tables of crumbs instead of using a proper tool such as a table crumber; reusing the prior guest’s teaspoon to set up a new table (I personally saw a staff member do this when setting my table); and lacking the manners necessary to maintain professional interactions with guests. For example, no one would expect the boiler in the breakfast room to be purely decorative. Naturally, anyone might pick up a cup and tea bag and attempt to use it. However, the server responded in a very passive-aggressive manner, saying that I had made her “confused” by asking for coffee while I was also trying to get some herbal tea for myself.
In addition, they use a marker to draw “faces” and write on the shells of the boiled eggs they serve for breakfast. Yes, you peel the shells off before eating them, but it was unpleasant to imagine the staff handling the eggs like toys and drawing on them before serving them to guests.
When I encountered a member of the cleaning staff and she asked whether I needed my room cleaned, she displayed a disgraceful attitude after I politely responded that I’d like her to change the towels in my room. In fact, the room did need cleaning, because I saw multiple bugs in the bathroom on my first night. The towels also did not appear to be properly cleaned, as I found other people’s hair and black spots on them.
I was well prepared for a small room, as I wasn’t expecting much, but the room felt like a jail cell at best. The only thing I’m glad I did was specifically ask for a room facing the courtyard instead of the street. It was quieter, although I could still hear people stomping around in the room above me.
