Very nice, comfortable hotel in a central location. In a quiet area, but it still gets noisy at night with children playing outside the hotel until gone midnight. There's nothing the hotel can do about this, but it's worth knowing if you are a light sleeper. That's the only negative though hence the high mark as it is a lovely hotel. I would return here if I visited the area in the future.
The staff at the front gave me inconsistent response, perhaps because of their limited English ability. For example, reserving an airport car drop-off service. One told me it was not possible the same day and to be there 15 mins before so he could call a taxi then. Also estimated time to the airtport and traffic condition were very different from one person to the next,
One person perhaps the manager helped me with the Wifi issue as it stopped working after the first day on the 2nd floor at my room. I reported the day before to the front desk and he also witness the same issue using his phone at my room. TV no longer could connect. Another person at the front desk the next day didn't know anything about it.
Flushing the toilette often required to open the lid and pull the latch for it to stop - perhaps maintenance should take a look.
Not enough electrical outlets in the room for charging. One set was behind the bed and could not be reached without moving the bed. I am in Georgia now and they have electric outlets that are agnostic to the plug-type that are very convenient. Something you should consider when renovating next time in the future.
The location is perfect in the old town. There are many restaurants to choose from. The hotel itself was extremely clean.
First off: Baku is a beautiful city with beautiful people. I would recommend it to ANYONE.
Second: My husband and I routinely stay in budget hotels. Luxury is wasted on us, plus we always find that we meet more locals this way.
We really wanted to like Maajid more. It was in a perfect spot in the Old Town. We picked this place because of all the perfect ratings, and I am afraid that they may have been false. (Expedia, you might want to check on this.)
When we arrived, the front desk clerk looked like he would rather eat tacks than sign us in. He looked so displeased. We get to the room and some woman's fingernails were on the table. We try not to have our towels exchanged every day, but when exchanged, it was only one towel. There was a leak in the shower that we had to stop up using one towel. The hotel is very loud. They never changed our tea cups. (Dirty) Our first night there was met with screaming children (you can hear everything that is on the first floor all the way up to your room on the third floor.) You can clearly hear what is going on in the room next to you. Upstairs there seemed to be some sort of wrestling match...we would hear loud thumps in the middle of the night. We had to disconnect the phone because we kept getting random calls.
Also, this is just for information: There is no coffee served. There is NO bar as listed, in fact, this hotel is completely alcohol free.
This was a perfect location! Right in the middle of Old City with lots to do around there as well as great food all over. Would highly recommend this hotel to others. During this time of year, the AC is off, which was the only down side but the windows opened a little bit so it cooled it down.
