The age is showing
Pros:

The lobby was hot, humid, and smelled like mildew. You can see around the lobby the aur purifiers trying to help a problem that needs a much larger fix. The AC in my room was awful. We had to sleep on top of the covers with the thermostat "set" at 17°c (62°f). The building looks like it keeps doing surface improvements but it's not helping.
The lounge was nice. But I wouldn't stay here again.

Pros:

The location was good.

Cons:

My stay was disappointing mainly because of the sauna facility on the top floor. It was often crowded with non-hotel guests, especially local elderly women who seemed to dominate the space. Rather than being relaxing, the atmosphere was stressful. Some of them lectured me (and other hotel guests) on how to use the sauna, kept the door open, and spoke loudly throughout. On one occasion, I even saw a local regular user bring her handphone into the sauna. What was especially frustrating was that hotel staff were present but did nothing to address the noise or the inappropriate behavior. I had expected the sauna to be a calm and restful hotel amenity, but unfortunately it was the opposite. In addition, my room faced a construction site, so it was difficult to find any peace during the day.

Old but gold?
Pros:

One of the grand old dames of taipei, it’s very old, 45 years to be exact

Had a bad check in experience last time so went to the executive lounge upstairs. It was better, but not significant. Asked for extra amenenties which never arranged. And cancelled a car which he didn’t

The room showed its age like the rest of the hotel, but acceptable. Strictly no toothbrush provided so bring your own

Breakfast restaurant huge but still felt crowded. Food average

Good central location next the Main station, 10 min from 101 and Da’an in different directions

Great stay at the Sheraton!
Pros:

The Sheraton Grand Taipei was a lovely stay, the rooms were really big and comfortable and clean. The breakfast was good value for money to which I recommend. It is local to quite a few points of interest and easily accessible if you want to go by taxi.

Dated Hotel - Really 2.5 of 5
Pros:

This hotel has the distinct disadvantage of being near to another Sheraton in a nearby city (Hsinchu), thereby making comparisons more likely. The one in Hsinchu is much better, which puts into contrast the flaws of this main one in Taipei. This hotel is dated and dark. They haven't updated it in quite some time judging from the decor, and lack more modern amenities like rainfall shower heads and things you'd expect from a premium-tier Marriott property. They also charge you if you need an extra bed for a child. We did suffer some bug bites while staying here as well. It's difficult to get the room to be a proper temperature; the AC is quite chilling even at higher temperatures (ie, if you turn it on but set it to 24) but it gets really warm if you don't have it. The ceiling in our room near what appears to be the access to fix the AC is cracked and separating from the wall itself, essentially leaving a hole. The windows are dingy and difficult to take photos through.
The main hotel staff are friendly and helpful (the reason this got three stars and not two) but the restaurant (Kitchen 12) staff are provincial and annoying. They do not let you take food out of the restaurant, in even the tiniest little bit; we had thought to bring two small muffins (seriously, they're tiny, the size of a regular mushroom each) back for our son when he didn't dine with us and I was immediately accosted by a staff member who blocked my way and tried to prevent me from leaving. I appreciate that you don't want hordes of people taking out loads of food, but when they change you NTD 1500+ for the 'privilege' of eating there taking a couple of muffins hardly seems worth getting your knickers in a twist. When we sat to eat at the dinner table paying for two people to eat, because my son (who was not eating) thought to get himself a small iced tea (30cl, again, tiny) they promptly rushed over to the table to put a quick stop to that as well. Considering I didn't eat and they were charging us more than US $50 for my wife's buffet meal, they really had no cause to be so obnoxious about a 30cl can of iced tea. Again, I understand that they can't have a lot of people 'stealing' the food but when the cost of your charge covers much, much more than the cost of whatever food people would eat you need to learn to let your guests enjoy themselves without being so overly obnoxious. It's not even the fact that they were preventing it per se, but the overly antagonistic way they accuse you of stealing essentially when you've literally agreed to pay NT 1590 for two people for dinner AND a service charge and only one of them is eating.
The more expensive restaurants in the hotel are better than Kitchen 12, but they "gate keep" reservations, and even though I'm Ambassador with Marriott things are mysteriously full until they check your room number and then magically something opens up once they realise you have status.
None of the restaurants take any precaution really with respect to food allergies. (This is not unique to this hotel, to be fair; it's consistently the case in Taiwan.) However, they do odd things like laying the bacon out on bread, which means that if you're gluten free, you couldn't eat the bacon due to cross-contamination.
The lounge isn't terribly great from what little I saw of it, but it is there, and those of the correct membership level can use it. We didn't try the pool or any other facilities.
The location of the hotel means it will take you a good 30 minutes to the airport and another 25 in the opposite direction to Taipei 101 or any of the more interesting things you'd want to see. It is directly off one of the underground lines though, so there's that. There's a Four Seasons now across from the Taipei 101 and both the Marriott Hotel and the Courtyard Marriott in Taipei are rated more highly than this hotel, which should tell you something.
EDIT: The noise.... first, even from the 11th floor, you can hear everything that happens on the street. General traffic noises, buses backing up.... you can hear it all. And though they warned us in writing of potential construction noise, both at the front desk and in the room, we weren't actually prepared for just how loud it would be. Unlike many hotels, where they would presume to wait until 9am (when many people would be out and/or working) they started construction with some of the loudest noises you can imagine at 8am on a Friday. While that presumably won't be the case all the time if you're reading this in the future, needless to say it made for a very unpleasant and unnecessary wake up call.

Very centrally located hotel with clean and cosy room
Pros:

Location was great as it was near to main train station. Room size was comfortable and right for a couple. Breakfast selection was great with variety

Cons:

The room was not ready when we arrived and we waited at the lobby. We had to go back to the main desk ourselves to check if the room was ready. I think the staffs are busy but I wish they keep track and inform us when the room was ready

A Comfortable and Convenient Stay in Taipei
Pros:

Our 3-night stay in April at Sheraton Grand Taipei Hotel was excellent from start to finish.

The staff were friendly, professional, and always willing to help, providing consistently good service throughout our stay. The hotel’s location is very convenient, making it easy to explore Taipei and access transport options.

Our room was clean, spacious, and well appointed, offering everything needed for a comfortable and relaxing stay. The overall standard of cleanliness across the hotel was impressive.

We also enjoyed the restaurants on-site, which offered a great variety of quality dining options.

Overall, a very enjoyable stay with strong service, comfort, and convenience—we would happily return.
