The Norwegian America Line’s venerable headquarters opened their doors in 1919. With an old building comes responsibility with maintenance and rehabilitation, that is why we are now doing rehabilitation on our roof and facade. The rehabilitation will continue until July 2023, and there might be some noise during the daytime. All outlets and services are still open as normal. We apologize for any inconveniences.

Great location, friendly staff, and fantastic breakfast!
Not a problem, but know that If you rent a car you’ll use a local parking lot 2blocks away.
Clean, centrally located and staff very friendly!

Breakfast was excellent with superb choice.
Storage / wardrobe space could have been better, had to use wall mounted coat hooks as wardrobe was too small.
The building is beautiful and I think the breakfast was one of the best hotel breakfasts we have had. The staff were charming but natural and very helpful.
It was a shame that we were unable to try the restaurants- due to a strike of hotel workers. It was a little noisy, with the building site behind.
Service i resepsjonen
Excellent interior decor and perfect location! This hotel is located within a 5 minute walk from Oslo's Central Station and is right next to the famous Karl Johans Street. Buses and trams are available from right outside the hotel. The hotel seemed relatively new and quite well maintained. My room was beautiful and spacious with a lot of natural light. The bed was very comfortable and the whole atmosphere at the hotel was very relaxing. Breakfast was excellent and included a buffet in addition to a few a la carte items that you could order. The only downside is that the trams in the street can get a little noisy. I was generally tired and used ear plugs to block out the noise, so my sleep wasn't too badly impacted.
Very dirty bed sheets which had human hairs on them. Draining system in the bathroom wasn’t working well.
I recently stayed at Amerikalinjen and had an excellent experience that I would confidently recommend to anyone visiting Oslo.
The hotel is beautifully set within the historic former headquarters of the Norwegian America Line, and this sense of heritage is thoughtfully woven into the design and atmosphere of the property. The result is a boutique hotel that feels both characterful and contemporary, with a strong sense of place.

🛎️ Arrival & Front of House
From the moment I arrived, the welcome was warm, engaging, and genuinely attentive.
I would especially like to recognize Kei and Rona, who made a lasting impression during check-in. Kei was incredibly thoughtful and engaging — she took the time to go through my pre-arrival requests in detail, even discussing my preference for a higher floor in a way that felt natural and collaborative. Rona was equally welcoming and reassuring, and together they created a seamless and personable arrival experience.
What stood out most was how intuitive and empowered the front-of-house team seemed — nothing felt transactional, and everything was handled with ease and genuine care. My late check-out request was accommodated generously, which made my departure day far more relaxed.
⸻
🛏️ Room Experience
I stayed in a Superior Explorer room, and it was a highlight of the stay.
The room was beautifully designed, with high ceilings, excellent natural light, and a layout that felt both spacious and comfortable — something that is not always guaranteed in European city hotels. The design strikes a refined balance between modern Scandinavian style and subtle heritage references, which aligns with the building’s history.
What I appreciated most was that the room felt like a space you actually want to spend time in — I found myself enjoying simply staying in the room on my final day.
The housekeeping team also deserves recognition for maintaining the room impeccably throughout my stay. Everything was consistently clean, well-prepared, and thoughtfully arranged.
⸻
🍽️ Breakfast Experience
Breakfast was another standout.
The offering was well-curated and of very high quality — not overly extensive, but everything was done well, which made it feel more intentional than many large hotel buffets. This aligns with other guest feedback highlighting the excellent breakfast quality and service.
More importantly, the hospitality of the breakfast team made a difference. Each morning felt relaxed, welcoming, and unhurried — exactly how a hotel breakfast should feel.
⸻
📍 Location & Atmosphere
The location is exceptional — directly across from Oslo Central Station and within easy walking distance of major attractions such as the Opera House and Karl Johans gate.
Despite this central location, the hotel maintains a calm and comfortable atmosphere, which is impressive.
⸻
💡 A Small Observation
If I were to offer one minor point for improvement, it would be that the welcome amenity felt somewhat generic compared to the otherwise thoughtful and personalized service throughout the stay. This is a small detail, but one area where the hotel could elevate the experience further.

🏁 Final Thoughts
Amerikalinjen delivers where it matters most:
* thoughtful and engaging service
* excellent room allocation and comfort
* strong sense of identity and design
* a genuinely welcoming atmosphere
What truly elevates the stay, however, is the people. The warmth and attentiveness of the team — particularly Kei and Rona — made the experience memorable.
I would absolutely return on my next visit to Oslo.
Incredible staff. Perfect location. Breakfast phenomenal.
Decor, room appointments, main lobby flow, staff and location, couldn't be better!
This is a trendy hotel in an extremely central location. It's right next to Oslo S station, walkable to the Oslo Opera House, walkable to Karl Johans Gate. Location cannot be beat. The hotel itself is a remodeled old railway station and has a trendy combination of Old world and modern decor which is appealing. The staff is super friendly and accommodating which makes the stay very comfortable. The breakfast is scrumptious and extensive, and should not be missed. All in all you will not go too wrong on any dimension if you pick this hotel!
Things that could be improved:
The restaurant attached to the hotel has a fairly limited menu outside of breakfast. Service is okay but not great, some of the staff seem new and inexperienced. Plenty of other options available in the area so caveat emptor.
Location, food, bar, and room
Nothing
Great location. Excellent rooms.
Sauna and gym
Location is excellent. Staff is excellent. The rooms are very comfortable. Breakfast is very good. The Pier 42 Bar is very good. There is construction next door so it can be noisy from 8am.
