The rehabilitation will continue until July 2023, and there might be some noise during the daytime. All outlets and services are still open as normal. We apologize for any inconveniences.

Great location, quiet rooms, comfortable bed, outstanding breakfast. Great fitness center.
Nothing
Super staff, great ambiance, comfortable rooms and incredible breakfast! 10/10 experience
Beautiful hotel, very comfortable bed, great staff at the bar and front desk. Breakfast one of the best I've seen.
nothing, was great.
The room is small but lovely. Staff was incredibly helpful and worked with us when we had tv issues. The breakfast was great and I was so thankful that you could order different types of coffee. You can even take it to go! The style of the hotel nods to its history and provides some great amenities like a sauna and even entertainment. However, we did not get the opportunity to utilize those amenities in the few nights we were staying at the hotel. We got a room with a balcony, which was tight, but provided a fun view of the water. There was construction going on which could get loud, but it was not a big deal. The bed was comfortable and staff were incredibly friendly. I told them that we were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary and they honored us with some small treats in our room and a very nice not. It is in a perfect location. I would stay again 100%.
Welcoming staff. Location. Breakfast
Location was great, a 2 minute walk from the Oslo central train station. Our room was a typical small but elegant European style hotel room. We overlooked the large square and the people coming and going from train to bus. Our last night, there was a woman singing beautifully in the square. She was amazing and we enjoyed her voice from our room and the bar / restaurant in the square.
Amerikalinjen is all about location. The hotel is directly across from Oslo Central Station, which makes arrival from the airport incredibly easy if you take the train into the city. From there, you can walk to so many Oslo highlights, including the Opera House, MUNCH, the Barcode District, the waterfront promenade, Karl Johans gate, and Aker Brygge.
The breakfast is truly special. The buffet has more than you could ever imagine, and the restaurant itself is stunning. It was one of the highlights of our stay.
The staff was friendly and welcoming throughout our visit.
Room sizes vary, so it is worth choosing carefully when booking. We had a basic room, and it did feel small, with only about a foot of space on each side of the bed. That said, the room was beautifully decorated and had everything we needed, and more. The bathroom was spacious, stylish, and had incredible water pressure.
One thing to know: there is construction next door where a building is being rebuilt. During our stay, work started around 7 AM, and there was some daytime noise. Realistically, I would expect that to continue for a while. For us, it was barely a bother, but it is something to consider if you are sensitive to noise or planning to sleep in.
Overall, Amerikalinjen is a stylish, well-located hotel with a fantastic breakfast and easy access to the best of Oslo.
The beds
Closed on Sunday evening for food
Excellent place to stay—right in the downtown and close to train station, harbor for ferries, museums, shopping, restaurants. The staff was amazing. The breakfast is the best I have had in any country I have ever been to. Rooms are quiet. Beds are comfortable. Highly recommend as The Place to stay near Oslo S
Everything was great
the breakfast was excellent apart from the coffee, which was quite bitter and never hot
the front desk staff were; friendly helpful and polite
the room service was very poor - on the 2 occasions we used it, it was very slow and in fact they forgot the order both times and we had to call again to remind them. On the first occasion, when the order arrived (after more than an hour) it was not what we ordered.
when we tried to eat at the restaurant in the evening, we stood for a long time waiting to be seen and were then told that we could not sit as they were full - in spite of many empty tables. we were told to come back in 30 minutes, which we did, to wait at least 10 minutes to be seated at one of the many empty tables.
we then found that nothing we picked from the menu was now available - this was 8.30pm - several hours closing time - we left without eating - the manager asked for our room number, which i gave him - asking why ? he mumbled something about the future, but we never heard from the hotel about this
we did not try to eat at the restaurant again although we would have liked the convenience of not having to go out.
This was a fabulous hotel. I stayed here for a week as I was attending a conference and added extra days so that I could see the concert. A friend had recommended this hotel and I can understand why.
Accessibility - the hotel is right opposite the train station so when I arrived it was very easy to find.
Food - I ate three times here (evening meal) and also had lunch. I had breakfast every day. The food was fabulous - very tasty and nice.
Staff - everyone was so friendly and helpful. I was travelling solo but I never worried about safety or anything.
Negative - the only negative is that the tram line was right by my room and I would hear it creak and grind as it went past right until the early hours of the morning when I would eventually just get to sleep.
Oslo itself was wonderful - this was my first time visiting. Very clean city. Everything was organised and ran on time. I felt perfectly safe. Do try the saunas by the sea - highly recommend (I even swam in the sea).
I would definitely recommend this hotel as a great base to explore the city.
Thank you to all the staff.

This hotel is outstanding in every way.
Its in the perfect location, central to everything you need as all the transport (Trains, Trams, Buses, Underground) runs from right outside the front door. The rooms are beautifully appointed and the bed is extremely comfortable. There is a concierge on site who will help you to make the most of your stay. Pier 42 is a great bar and you have plenty of dine in options too. Breakfast is included and very high quality, you can choose from the self serve buffet or à la carte.
The stand out feature for me are the staff, every single person we met was friendly and went out of their way to make you feel welcome. It felt genuine throughout our stay.
If you are reading this review, I can say one last thing. I have travelled to 21 countries and this is by far, the best hotel I have ever stayed in.
I would give it a 7 star review on Trip Advisor if I could.
Our six-day stay at Amerikalinjen was nothing short of exceptional. It proved to be the perfect base not only for exploring Oslo itself but also for taking trips beyond this awesome city. Its location is simply phenomenal—directly across from Oslo Central Station, making travel effortless, while also being within easy walking distance of many of Oslo’s most iconic attractions, including the harbour, Akershus Fortress, City Hall, Parliament, several outstanding museums e.g. the Munch Museum, the Opera House, and the Royal Palace.
One of the things that makes Amerikalinjen so special is its rich historic character. The beautifully restored building seamlessly combines its fascinating heritage with contemporary luxury, creating a unique atmosphere that sets it apart from typical modern hotels. There is a sense of history and light modern elegance throughout the property, yet it remains warm, stylish, and welcoming.
At first glance, some guests might be concerned about noise due to the hotel's central location next to the train station and close to tram and bus traffic. However, this turned out not to be an issue at all for us. The excellent sound insulation and high-quality double windows keep noise levels remarkably low, allowing for a peaceful and comfortable stay despite being in the heart of the capital city.
What made our stay even more memorable was the outstanding staff. Every member of the team was exceptionally friendly, professional, and genuinely helpful, always going above and beyond to ensure we had a wonderful experience. Their warmth and attention to detail were evident from the moment we arrived until the day we left.
The hotel itself is impeccably maintained. Our room was spotless, beautifully appointed, and incredibly comfortable, providing the perfect retreat after long days of sightseeing and excursions. The bathroom was particularly impressive, offering plenty of space, an excellent walk-in shower, and high-quality amenities that added to the feeling of luxury and comfort. We also thoroughly enjoyed the spa and fitness facilities, which were modern, relaxing, and thoughtfully designed.
The food and beverage offerings were equally impressive. The bar has a fantastic atmosphere and serves excellent drinks, while the brasserie delivers outstanding cuisine in a vibrant and elegant setting. The breakfast deserves special mention—it was truly exceptional. The quality, freshness, and variety of the (local) produce were remarkable, with an outrageously generous selection that exceeded even the highest expectations.
If there is one small area for improvement, it would be the television channel selection. While there are plenty of Norwegian, Swedish, and Danish channels available, alongside BBC and DW, a broader range of international channels would be a welcome addition for guests staying multiple days.
Overall, Amerikalinjen combines history, luxury, comfort, and world-class hospitality product in a way that very few hotels can match at this price point. After six wonderful days, we left with fantastic memories and complete confidence in recommending it to anyone visiting Oslo. We would happily return without hesitation.
The room was perfect, location is ideal for train access but very loud.
I was extremely disappointed with my stay at this hotel, especially considering the amount of money I spent. My room was placed directly adjacent to an active construction zone, and there was constant noise throughout my stay. It was never peaceful or quiet, which made it very difficult to relax or enjoy the experience I had paid for.
To make matters worse, I woke up in the morning to a large construction crane directly outside my window. This was not disclosed at the time of booking, and had I known the hotel was undergoing major construction so close to guest rooms, I would have chosen to stay elsewhere.
For a property charging premium rates, I expected transparency, consideration for guests, and at the very least accommodations away from the construction activity. The entire experience felt disruptive and far below the standard advertised.
I sincerely hope management improves communication with future guests and reevaluates placing guests in rooms impacted by heavy construction noise.
Update the hotel responded immediately and refunded some of the cost for the disappointing experience.
Tudo maravilhoso!!
Very loudly housekeeping staff. They woke me up with their screams outside the door.
Wonderful hotel in an excellent location. The breakfast was amazing and staff wonderful.
We really enjoyed our 2 night stay at Amerikalinjen. We had a flight delay so got in later than expected and also didn't receive our luggage. The staff at reception went above and beyond helping us find stores that were open early the next morning so that we could get some of the necessities, and even called up to our room with other ideas that they thought of after we checked in. The location was fabulous. Steps away from central station, and an easy walking distance to the Opera House and Munch Museum. The rooms were very clean, and we also received an upgrade to a slightly larger room type. The breakfast in the morning was a very nice spread. We did Norway in a Nutshell and used a porter service to take our luggage on (it did finally show up!) to Bergen, and the staff was so helpful in that process.
