Loved this hotel with its ambiance, friendly staff and location. We picked it because it's across from the train station and accessible to everywhere in Oslo. So quiet and the rooms are very well appointed. Lots of historical nuances.

We booked Amerikalinjen solely because of its location—which is perfect—and once we arrived we learned it’s an absolutely amazing place to stay. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left we were treated like the most important guests ever to check in. The restaurant was excellent—a late dinner our first night and breakfast each morning. Meals were great and the service was excellent. Our room was very nicely decorated and, surprisingly, very quiet for a hotel so centrally located. The hotel is steps away from as much action as you’d want. A return trip to Oslo, we’ll be back at Amerikalinjen for sure.

Our family had an excellent stay at the Amerikalinjen, staying a total of four nights. The location couldn't have been better - it was within walking distance of almost everything we wanted to visit in Oslo, with tram/bus stops right there as well. It was next to the train station, near the pedestrian shopping street, and very close to the opera house/library/Munch Museum area. The waterfront was also a comfortable walking distance.

The staff was very friendly and helpful, giving us clear directions for taking the tram to get our rental car. The breakfast buffet had to be one of the best we have ever had - excellent quality, including the best berries in season, large variety, and was constantly replenished when items ran low, which often doesn't happen elsewhere. There were delicious vegan options even! And additional items guests could order from the kitchen.

The rooms were very clean and comfortable and well lit, with plenty of plugs as well. We highly recommend the Amerikalinjen and would very happily stay there again on return visits to Oslo..

Beautiful hotel in the heart of downtown. Walkable anywhere and easy access to main areas. Staff was wonderful and rooms were clean and spacious.

Great central location within 10 minute walk of central train and bus stations. Close to museums, opera house, etc. near public transport to get you anywhere you want to go. Amazingly quiet for location. Great breakfast, friendly staff. Nice gym an spa area.

The Amerikalinjen sets the bar for hotels in Oslo. The location could not be more convenient, steps from the train station, the harbor and Karl Johans Gate. Our party of three stayed in a Deluxe room. It was roomy enough for all of us, with a high ceiling and a wall of mirrors providing a more spacious feeling. The beds were exceptionally comfortable, even the extra third bed! The room was full of small thoughtful touches, like the heated floor in the bathroom and the motion activated nightlights. The place is striking and full of decorations celebrating the building’s past. Breakfast was delicious, both the plentiful buffet and the entree cooked to order. Service was not great, but good enough not to detract from an otherwise excellent stay. Price was premium but worth it given we had an early flight the next morning. We would gladly stay again!

Beautiful property! Right next to train station so very convenient. Very helpful and kind staff! Terrific breakfast.

One of those rare hotels that feels like a story rather than just a place to sleep. The building was once the headquarters of the Norwegian America Line, the transatlantic shipping company, and that heritage is woven into the whole experience — from small design details in the rooms to a wonderful little lounge dedicated to old books, photographs, and period documents from the shipping line's history. It gives the place a genuine sense of personality that's hard to find in most hotels.

The room itself was beautifully designed, spotless, and thoroughly welcoming. The staff were exceptional throughout — genuinely kind and attentive at every turn, never intrusive but always there when needed.

Breakfast was excellent, both in variety and quality — a real highlight to start the day. The restaurant was equally impressive.

And then there's the cocktail bar — phenomenal. Inventive, beautifully made cocktails, full of character. If you stay here, this alone is worth making time for.

Das Frühstück hat uns besonders gut gefallen. Dies Auswahl ist groß, vielfältig und frisch. Alle Lebensmittel werden umgehend nachgefüllt, wenn sie zur Neige gegangen sind. Der Service ist nett und aufmerksam. Die Lage ist sehr gut. Alle Sehenswürdigkeiten sind gut zu Fuß zu erreichen, insbesondere die Nähe zur Oper, zum Hauptbahnhof (kurze Transferzeit, flytoget Express) und zur Carl Johans Gate sind erwähnenswert. Zimmer: Die Dusche ist großzügig und die Armaturen sind leicht zu bedienen. Das Lichtsystem im Zimmer ist gutdurchdacht und einfach zu benutzen. Die Reinigung der Zimmer erfolgte teilweise während wir beim Frühstück waren, sehr angenehm.

We stayed for 3 nights in Oslo. Great location by the train station and within walking distance of Harbour activities like Opera House and Munch Museum. Not to mention Harbour cruises.
Hotel room small but comfortable. Unfortunately not overly quiet at our visit because of construction next door but they gave us some room credit when my husband complained about the noise.
Included breakfast was superb with dozens of choices for every diet requirement.

This is my second stay at Amerikalinjen, the first time I stayed an entire weekend. I had been looking forward to this for a while and was not disappointed. The hotel is very comfortable with great service around every turn.
We stayed in a superior room during a heat wave in southern Norway and was worried about feeling too warm. That was not a problem. The room was air conditioned and there was a fan there too.
Every day we got delicious cookies on a paper with the following days weather forecast. The bed and sheets are super comfortable. The bathroom wasn’t large, but the shower was roomy and there was great smelling body wash, shampoo, conditioner and body lotion. I even bought some to take home.
The breakfast was spectacular. You get a limited menu to order from, fresh pressed orange juice and a lovely buffet with among other things, fresh berries.
Amerikalinjen is my new favorite hotel. ❤️

Convenient location to many Oslo attractions and train station. The room had a view of the interior courtyard and was a little dark, but the quality of the amenities was very good. The staff was very friendly and helpful, especially Olga in the restaurant.
