Great location however, the rooms are outdated and the bathroom was the smallest we have ever encountered. We chose to move hotels after the initial night stay. Very overpriced for such an outdated hotel.
I paid for the hotel in full for 2 patrons for conference at that time I gave the name of my relative that was staying they did not take proper note of this as my relative was coming from 1 state and I from california they refused entry to her and even while I was on the phone with them confirming her name again they still refused entry I am well aware of the History of the Hotel of refusing entry of Blacks into the Hotel it is appauling that these systemic issues are still in existance and the hotel would not refund my 1st day as no one stayed there
- historisches Hotel
-sehr gute Lage
-freundliches Personal
-schöne Sicht aufs Meer
-eher auf der teuren Seite
-signal an den tv-geräten funktionierte für eine Stunde nicht im ganzen Hotel, konnte aber behoben werden.
A very spacious room, with lovely views over the park. We had a corner room, so we had windows on two sides, which made the room very bright. Super comfy bed, really good wi-fi. A good breakfast selection and the prices in the bar and restaurant were very reasonable. The staff were lovely and very helpful. Car parking was in a garage that was only 50 yards along the road.
We had booked a suite which was a really good size but the room was a bit dated and is probably due for refurbishing soon. Compared to the size of the suite, the bathroom was tiny!
Absolutely lovely environment! We loved the staff! They were extremely helpful and attentive. The rooms are so spacious and comfortable. Such a perfect location. Everything is so close by!
Staff was very friendly and professional!
Nothing.
The hotel is in a great location. Walking distance to everything if you can handle walking. Even when it's hot out. Hotel parking... probably just use valet. Didn't save any money using parking garage. New day starts at midnight so we're charged $47. Ugh. Oh well. Rooms are nice. Double beds, not queen. Sheets kept coming untucked which is annoying. Sheets were really comfortable.
Amazing location and lovely lobby. Nice surprise afternoon complimentary champagne!
Check in process was not smooth even though I provided individual confirmation numbers for each room. There seemed to be confusion because of the single booking and different arrival times.
Bathroom was a bit small.
I just love the Hotel. Great location. Beautiful and great view. The beds very soft . The location was close to all the good shops on King street. The Hotel and room was very clean.
Francis Marian is an elegant old hotel, in a superior location. The staff is gracious and attentive. The Francis Marion conveys the unique, hospitable Charleston people come to visit.
Beautiful, historic hotel
Nothing
We hosted a rehearsal dinner and welcome party at the Francis Marion as well as used the hotel for the wedding room block with the wedding nearby. Perfect location and perfect experience. Everyone was so helpful and seemed so happy to assist. There are more people I wish I could call by name but Joey helped us load and unload so many times even reminding us we had stored things at the front desk as we departed. Natasha, Alexa and others were so helpful at front desk. Lori Beth seamlessly hosted our group when our original contact was OOO that week. We even had a miscommunication on the breakfast for the bridal suite/girls getting ready and the Francis Marion served up a wonderful breakfast so fast on the fly it appeared seamless. Couldn’t have asked for a better time celebrating our family wedding.
I recently stayed at the Francis Marion Hotel while attending a professional conference, and the experience exceeded expectations in every way. My room was exceptionally comfortable, beautifully appointed, and remarkably well maintained for a historic property.
The hotel itself is elegant, welcoming, and perfectly suited for conferences and events. What truly stood out, however, was the quality of the food and beverage service. From breakfast and lunch to the evening receptions, every meal was excellent, with outstanding variety, quality, and presentation. It was easily the best conference catering I have experienced.
The conference technology and support were equally impressive. Large screens, microphones, and audiovisual systems worked flawlessly throughout the event—something that is far rarer than it should be. Every member of the hotel staff contributed to a seamless experience, demonstrating professionalism, attention to detail, and genuine hospitality.
The Francis Marion delivered a truly first-class experience, and I would gladly stay here again.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Beautiful hotel, top notch exprience! We used room service for breakfast, and it came on time and was delicious. We also used the garage and had no problem getting our car when needed.
I attempted to make an April reservation on line, not my first time with the hotel. I could not get a confirmation email or text. I assumed the hotel was booked so I found a reservation at another hotel.
Today my AMEX bill shows a $361.90 billing for ASSURED RESERVATION-NO SHOW. No confirmation ever received.
I called the hotel and was given a contact number. The number is answered by AI and after multiple attempts I could not get past the AI connection. So no way to resolve this disputed charge. I’ll go to AMEX and start a protest.
Several good times in Charleston at this hotel but, like other offended travelers, never Francis Marion again. Don’t like being taken advantage of or computer rather than human connections. Sorry customer service.
