I recently stayed 5 nights at the Embassy Suites by Hilton San Diego Bay Downtown in a Double Queen City View Suite, and overall it was an excellent experience.
The room was exceptionally clean and spacious. What really stood out was the layout and amenities. The suite included three sinks (yes, three!), which was incredibly convenient for multiple guests getting ready at the same time. The room also included an iron and ironing board, microwave, refrigerator (larger than the typical hotel mini fridge), a large attached living area with a second TV, a large dining/work table, lounge chair, and sofa. There was plenty of room to spread out and relax.
Wifi was good. No issues connecting. The front desk has instructions so take a picture of the sign before you go up to your room.
Customer service was outstanding from start to finish. During my stay, the hotel sent text messages to check on how everything was going, making it easy to communicate with staff. After checkout, I had an issue with my credit card, and when I called the hotel, someone answered immediately and resolved my concern. That level of responsiveness is becoming rare and was greatly appreciated.
The complimentary breakfast was one of the best hotel breakfasts I’ve experienced. The breakfast staff was exceptional. Friendly, attentive, and hardworking. The buffet offered an impressive variety of options, including bagels, scrambled eggs, bacon, pork sausage, pancakes, made-to-order omelets, muffins, doughnuts, hot cereal, coffee, juice, soda, and much more. There were also always open tables available and minor lines.
The location is excellent. Uber rides were easy to arrange, reasonably priced for downtown San Diego, and drivers had no trouble finding the hotel. The property also has a convenient attached market/grill (accessible via a short walk outside the hotel) that sells just about everything including drinks, water, snacks, toiletries, and microwaveable meals.
The only drawbacks were the $25 per day Daily Destination Charge and room service. While the daily charge can be used as a food and beverage credit at the restaurant, grill, or for room service, I would still prefer it be optional. Additionally, room service never answered the phone when I tried to order, and another guest mentioned experiencing the same issue.
That said, these were minor issues compared to an otherwise outstanding stay. Downtown San Diego hotels are generally expensive, but Embassy Suites provides significantly more value than many competitors. I’ve previously stayed at the Pendry San Diego and the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina, and in my opinion, Embassy Suites was the best overall experience.
I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting San Diego.
The hotel restaurant while overpriced was very accessible and had a good variety of food. They were a little large on the kids portions and could cut back there on price and quantity. The food was good and the staff in the restaurant were excellent. The hotel location is excellent and allows access to the trolley rides, Seaport Village, and the train station.
The carpet in our room was filthy. I doubt it has been shampooed in a very long time. The platforms that they now have the beds on were also filthy and felt gritty and sticky. We were asked to go green and avoid having our room made up everyday. We did so willingly, but when they did clean they left no new drinking cups (plastic) and no new coffee cups (paper). When swimming in the pool, we were literally trapped there long beyond our intended stay as the hotel could not provide any clean towels and it was too chilly to try to dry off outside. They said housekeeping had been called several times, but it still took over 45 minutes to receive clean towels. The happy our coices were laughable -- raw vegetables and hummus that looked like it had seen better days, along with chex mix of some sort. I've stayed here many times in the past and have considered it an excellent choice, but based on these experiences, I will not go back again.
La ubicación.
Le falta limpieza y amabilidad del personal.
Great staff, fast service, good breakfast!
The service was wonderful! And the the staff was helpful. Iniego was great 👍
We had a great stay. The rooms are spacious, hotel is close to San Diego Zoo and Balboa Park. Morning breakfast with omelette station is a huge perk. Ursula with the food service team was so kind and helpful at the evening reception, she went out of her way to get a snack for my kiddos and refill the coke dispenser. Overall great stay.
Clean, indoor pool, the restaurant, breakfast and evening reception.
Front desk lady. Check-in took too long (it took them until 6:30pm to check us in). Never received a call from them stating our room was ready. Overcharged us on parking by double. Called and they are issuing a credit back in 2-3 days.
The facility and employees were very nice. Employees were very welcoming, polite, and helpful. Highly recommend staying here. Breakfast was fresh and delicious. Views from our room were amazing. If we come back to San Diego we will stay here again.
