The location was the wonderful Nob Hill area. 15 minute walk to Chinatown and North Beach. The room was immaculate and the view was great. Also the top of the Mark has the best view from the 15th floor.
A little pricey, but that's life.
Great, historic hotel at the top of Nob Hill. Rooms are older and could use an updating, but the bed was very comfortable and it was very quiet. The location is great, but you're going to have to walk up and down the hill to get anywhere. Worth staying here if for no other reason than going up to the Top of the Mark and get you a drink. (You don't need to stay there for that). Otherwise, the hotel seemed a bit understaffed, but the stop was accommodating.
As a Diamond Ambassador, I expect to get everything that I'm owed without asking, and I did. To me, this is huge. Too bad IHG doesn't have more upscale hotels in the US.
Loved the location! The history and little museum was fascinating. Very old world classic luxury! The historical architecture and marble made you feel luxurious.
Everything
Difficult to find entrance the first time
Some years since we have stayed there, but still one of the best. Great location and view from room over the city was awesome. Bit dated in places, but undergoing renovation at the moment.
We stayed at this hotel two nights while visiting San Francisco. It was a lovely experience. Room was clean and comfortable. Hotel is in a great location.
The property is becoming thread bare and dated, living on a reputation of years gone by. Even the Top of the Mark is not aging well, chairs and stools cracked and peeling. But the biggest surprise is no coffee in the room, even holiday inns offer this. But you can hang a sign on your door to get coffee delivered in the morning for $10..
The bright spot was the front desk, Aman worked tirelessly to get us in the proper room, he is a star! Thank you to him
The beds and the bar
The staff on the front desk were rude and unhelpful
Really tired hotel with no soul. No bell/ doorman to greet, 1 FD clerk on, so had to wait to check in. No answer when I tried 3 extensions to have my car brought around. Room was just ok, no slippers, mini bar locked, no water offered. Bathroom sink mixing valve do not work and water was scalding hot. I own luxury hotels and the once famous Mark Hopkins is in decline…the owners or GM need to wake up.

Nic.
I was excited to check this hotel out but ended up disappointed.
From my understanding his hotel just turned 100 years... and it shows.
Property is extremally dated. I did enjoy the location but that was about it.
Was very elegant , all you could expect from a nice hotel … pretty bar
No pool
For the money, this hotel was really disappointing. First the positives: location was great, and the breakfast was pretty good, too. The pictures they have of the lobby as looking classical are false. The lobby looked tired. Nothing seemed to fit. It was not elegant and time honored as portrayed on their website. We had a checkin of 3:00 pm but by 3:30 our room still was not ready. The person at the counter offered a different room with a view on the 15th floor. Sounded good. The room we got as "an upgrade" was grotty. Marks on the walls, chipped and peeling paint, woodwork with fillers and an outdated bathroom.(bathtub/whower combo with a shower curtain). The bed was also really uncomfortable, but the pillows weren't bad. They offered no in room coffee, tea or water and there was a locked "honor bar" with no access and no refrigerator. When I called down, the woman said they didn't want people breaking their glasses and then offered to send up some glasses for us. They couldn't provide plastic cups for those not trusted with glassware? I'm sorry...no. I was also really disappointed in The Top of the Mark. Again, grotty and tired. I had been before when it was elegant and time honored. It was sad to see it had gone downhill. I would not stay here again for the money spent.
