I am not one to write reviews but I have to. The overall hotel is very nice and worth it, in our opinion. Great and easy stay. However this low review needs to happen due to the dining experience at the restaurant in the hotel. It was one of the most awkward and unenjoyable we have every had at any hotel or restaurant in our entire lives. Never seen anything like it. The Sous Chef, Will, was terribly rude to our bartender, Dennis, not just once but multiple times. Made the whole dinner awkward and we felt bad for Dennis the entire time. I know that people have bad days but while paying a noticeably higher price tag for this hotel (and menu) compared to the surrounding options, my girlfriend and I expected a way higher bar and professionalism from the kitchen. It doesn't cost anything to be kind. Hope Will learns that under their employment. The food was great though, so that part he has down. The rest of the staff was extremely kind (wish I knew their names) and tried to rectify the awkwardness but no amount of comped dessert or a drink should take away from rudeness to your colleagues.
Everything else lovely. The rooms were standard but the outdoor area was nice and location was perfect, Larry at the front desk was exceptional. That guy was terrific.
The Delamar is blessed with the best setting in town - waterfront with a lovely beach and outside bar, as well as a pool. The Artisan restaurant is top notch and service is expedient.
My one issue came when I attempted to locate the safe in my room. After numerous phone calls and promised visits from the technicians that did not materialize, I was asked at 9 pm if I would like another room. At that point, I was not willing to relocate. I was uncomfortable with the fact that there was no safe and that people knew there was no safe.
I mentioned this to the front desk, who compensated me with a discounted rate. This was extremely nice, but did not make me feel less vulnerable. I would recommend guests establish the safe's location before settling into the room.
Amazing experience for our anniversary. Wonderful, helpful and friendly staff. Beautiful hotel in a great location.
The Delamar is a beautiful hotel. The rooms are beautiful & the restaurant is exceptional
Here’s a version that naturally includes that context:
Review:
We stayed at the Delamar while I was dropping my son, Charlie, off at camp, and it was the perfect place to begin our trip. The hotel is beautiful, the rooms were comfortable and spotless, and the staff was warm and welcoming. Charlie especially loved the pool, and we both enjoyed being able to walk to the waterfront and nearby restaurants. We already have our next trip planned!
Beautiful hotel, beautiful rooms, excellent food and servers, both in the restaurant and coffee bar. However, after two stays, we've experienced a couple rude staff members at reception and restaurant hosts. Check in this stay was wonderful, but then checking out, when I was in my room one minute past check out time, the cleaning team was banging on and opening my door, and the reception called, both my room and my cell phone, to tell me I needed to leave immediately or I would be charged another night. It was 11:30, and I mistakingly thought check out was at noon, because no one said otherwise. The previous stay, the restaurant host was very rude to my mother in a wheelchair. It is unfortunate because it is such a lovely property. If you know to expect this uneven reception and treatment, lovely servers mixed with a few rude receptionists/hosts, everything else is exceptional about this hotel.
Great location, clean and spacious rooms and friendly staff. Food was great as well. There as part of a business meeting but would return for a vacation for sure.
Hotel is centrally located. Can easily walk downtown. Room was clean and right on the lake. Service was inconsistent. Turn down service second night, not first. Had to make 3 requests for room to be made on the second day. The Artist restaurant at the hotel was delicious!
Only stayed one night for the Cherry Festival, but the hotel was fantastic. It was nice to sit in the chairs outside and enjoy the bay. It was also walkable to the festival.
The location is great, a short 5 + minute walk to downtown. The staff is great, the hotel is very nice, however showing some signs of wear. The fabric on the chair in our room was peeling off and the shade is shredding, otherwise the room is very nice. The outdoor bar area is great. We have dined at The restaurant, Artisan on a couple prior occasions an and had a great experiences, however, not a good experience on this visit.
Location is great. Views from window are nice- waterfront. Pools are nice - heated, will be even nicer in a winter time. Stuff is very friendly. Restaurant Artisan has the best steak I ever tried - highly recommend!
No breakfast buffet , only cafe where you can buy coffee and sandwiches or pastries, didn’t really like a coffee there , maybe it’s just me. So if you like to have a breakfast- you have to walk around city and find place (good news is that TC has a lot of them around, we found a couple delicious places).
My family and I stayed over the 4th of July weekend. The queen corner suite was spacious. However, the cons outweighed the pros for me, so not sure we would stay again.
Pros:
Nice heated pool
Great poolside service
Nice central location
Spacious rooms and bathrooms
Nice toiletries - Biulgari
Cons:
Expensive
For the price we paid, it would’ve been nice to have some extra amenities - like free coffee in the lobby
It would’ve been nice to have the hotel check in daily to see how things were going
Hot and small fitness room
Floor in the room was not clean. Other than that, the room was clean enough
Wonderful!!
For the price we originally agreed to pay (close to $600 a night with taxes and fees), the room was subpar. Worn furniture, bed creaked, coffee and tissue interested, etc. Also, the fitness center was lacking and without AC.
This is a $300/night or less room even during peak season. At $600/night I would have expected four to five star accommodations.
The manager, David made things right for us. All staff were pleasant.
My 10-year-old daughter and I stayed at the Delamar Traverse City for a mommy-daughter birthday trip, and we had an absolute blast! The location is perfect, making it easy to enjoy everything Traverse City has to offer. The outdoor pool looked amazing and was such a relaxing spot to unwind.
The only downside was that they no longer offer the continental breakfast, which was always such a wonderful perk of staying here in the past. Other than that, our stay was fantastic, and we made some great birthday memories together!
The restaurant at the hotel, called the Artisan, is a destination in itself. It is hands-down one of the top restaurants in Michigan. Starting with the entire friendly staff extremely knowledgeable about every dish, to the gorgeous presentation, farm-to-table ingredients plus the creativity and culinary expertise - every dish we had was spectacular. Spacious, clean modern rooms, gorgeous showers, our room overlooked the Bay!
PS The beautiful hotel itself sits on a beautiful beach - we happened to see a destination wedding while we were there - set outdoors. Just wonderful!!!!
Nice hotel, great grounds, staff is lovely and the food and drinks were great. Only issue was that the room had the headboard against the wall that was shared with elevator shaft and could hear everyone coming and going
Fantastic staff! Nice hotel & amenities and fabulous location. Great AM & PM shuttle drivers. You won't be disappointed.
Very hit or miss. Lovely hotel setting; room was noisy next to the elevator and a humming generator every few minutes; $271 dinner was spotty at best. Very good Walleye, $68 Wagyu Hanger steak WAY too salty.
