Unclean, unsafe, poor management

Unfortunately, our stay at this hotel was extremely disappointing and not what we expected for the price we paid.
We booked one night through Booking.com while traveling with our children. When we entered the room, the carpet was visibly very dirty. (stains and sunflower seeds on the floor - so we could tell the room wasn't cleaned very well) After my husband showered and walked across the carpet, his feet were literally black from the amount of dirt that transferred onto them. Even more concerning, we found what appeared to be a glass pipe underneath the bed (drug paraphernalia ) With our children traveling with us, this was completely unacceptable and made us uncomfortable keeping them in the room. Our priority at that point was getting our family out of the room, so we did not take photographs because we were focused on leaving rather than documenting the condition.

We paid $167 for this stay, and we contacted Booking.com afterward to request a refund. Booking.com initially told us they had contacted the hotel and that we should receive an update. After several days, we were ultimately told by Booking.com that the hotel had not responded to their attempts to reach them, and Booking.com was therefore unable to issue a refund. We were offered $16.63 in Booking.com travel credits instead. I have also sent a message to the hotel and they have not responded to me either.

I am leaving this review because I believe future guests, especially families, deserve to know about our experience. I sincerely hope management sees this and reaches out to us to resolve the situation directly.

Breakfast didn’t last long enough after moving my daughter in her dorm the day before I guess I slept too late.

Pros:

Super close to the function that I had at the university of South Alabama

Cons:

I have stayed here before and it was perfectly fine and clean. When you first walk in the lobby smells amazing. Staff was super friendly but when I got to my room, it totally smelled gross. My pillows smelled gross as well. I literally had to spray down my bed with body spray.

Carpet was stained. Spots were 2 feet in diameter. You could hear people next door. It was not a 4+ rating.
Someone gave it a 4+ because it was across the street from the university. It was 3.2 or 3.3.

Unsanitary, stay away .
Cons:

Very dirty , unsanitary, and smelly
All the hallways are extremely filthy , it doesn’t take few seconds after you walk in to realize that you shouldn’t have booked this hotel , carpets are greasy and became super dark which tells you it wasn’t cleaned in decades ,
There is urine smell in the hallways and the elevator is filthy you have to hold your breath while using it .
The rooms are also dirty and the bed sheets had stains .
