Excellent position for the boardwalk. Really enjoyed our stay.
Great location, large clean room with ensuite. Not a great view.....but lovely room. Loved the valet parking.
No view.
Location is good
Good acccess to ice (which was needed)
I checked in on Saturday only to be told after making payment 'by the way our airconditioning in the rooms isnt working -have the two waters in the room for free'. I should have checked out then. I was told no one would come out on the weekend to fix it.
In the room it stunk of stale air and there was no opening window. Obviously well insulated for the winter as it was incredibly hot.
After living ina sweatbox for the night I should have checked out but didnt thinking it would be fixed on Monday. By Monday the staff said 'no we are stil lwaiting, its been a week' ... so it wasnt a weekend issue !
When i checked out on Tuesday stil lnot fixed - was such a horrible experience made only worse by no offer of a discount or anything else to make up for the terrible conditions.
The hotel is otherwise nice enough but Id never go back, really disspointed such a big company cant sort out their airconditioning.
Great location nice amenities but if you like air flow this is a no go. Arrived 1 am had been warned by family member arriving earlier air was not working. Inquired and told it’s a holiday but will be on soon. After three nights we knew nothing would happen. Received a fan—if windows would open we would have been fine. Disappointment since this was a special celebration trip and expected more from a Double Tree.
We booked this hotel months ago, a splurge to stay downtown to make sightseeing easy.
The check in process was ok, but the clerk was not especially friendly and it felt as though she was up selling the valet parking (same place as the park yourself but less $). No one mentioned at check in - that it was going to be either blistering heat or antartica in the room.
The room smelt funky, the fan/HVAC was off, and we attempted to cool things down with the thermostat - which did not work. Realized had no bedding for the pull out (which when booking 1 bed and 1 sofa for 2 adults + kid it should be obvious and offered) called and they sent up 2 king size flat sheets eventually - and again no one asked about the room. (This is important as you'll see)
Front desk did call at 2155 to ask about the valet and did we have our keys?? I was incredibly confused and will have to double check my bill that they didn't charge for something we didn't use. The night sleep was terribly hot. In the morning I went to speak with Abby the clerk who was lovely, BUT when I said "our room is so hot" she smiled and nodded - and then I stopped and said "I feel like you expected this..." And she explained that the HVAC winter to spring switchover is happening so there is no HVAC for the rooms (the lobby and hallways were regular temp). She offered fans. Which were delivered to the room - but no discount, no free breakfast or anything offered. The next sleep was equally terrible as it was still hot (and was warmer that day so even hotter in the evening) and I feel like the hotel's reason to exist is a sleep that is reliable, especially with the "better" chain. If you cannot deliver that - charging full price, no apology or anything done ahead of time when welcoming guests.
Pool was fine. Room was nice furnishing wise. Drop off area is teeny room for 2 cars max so unloading can be a real challenge. Staff were for the most part professional.
The hotel itself was great. Brenda from housekeeping was a gem. The suite was great. The location was great for proximity to the waterfront and shops. It can be a bit loud on the weekends so I would say avoid if you have kids or are early to bed types. I would definitely recommend the hotel. It is not the most accessible but the staff and rooms make it well worth the price.
Good location, easy and quick walk to waterfront.
Service was under average. Received a lot of rude responses.
Parking is a disaster, only 1 spot to park in front for valet and check-in and wait for valet is super long. 20-30 minutes minimum each time.
Rooms are nice and big but the way they are set up, you can hear everything in the next room and doors slamming when they close. It was hard to get a good night sleep.
They have free coffee in lobby which is nice. They seem to have a lobby bar but it was never open.
Gym and pool is under average.
Overall it’s ok but there are much better options in the same price range in downtown halifax
Great location and very helpful staff.
Good shower with lots of water pressure.
Valet parking was a bonus and reasonably priced.
Housekeeping did a very good job.
We had no heat in the room and needed to use a space heater.
The furnishings are very dated and beat up looking.
No utensils at all in the kitchenette.
Stayed 2 nights. Arrived at 1 am after 24 hours of travel to find the sofa bed was not made up. Staff told us to go and make it ourselves and that they never make up the sofa bed for guests.
Room was absolutely freezing (-2 degrees when we arrived ) and we had only very thin blankets. My kids and I slept huddled together with all of our clothes on. Staff were indifferent but offered small space heaters and extra duvets (which were provided without duvet covers).
When we used the heaters they caused the power to short circuit and we had another freezing night in the hotel. The phone did not clearly have reception labelled so had to try various numbers to get through. Many times I tries to call reception there was no answer. Could not wait to get out of this place.
Staff were very unsympathetic and made it sound normal that they could not turn on the heating. Reading these reviews it seems that heating / cooling has been an issue for guests for years.
Breakfast was excellent - although the system for ordering was unclear and it seems odd to me that we have to pay tips for hotel breakfast that are not covered by the hotel.
Sehr freundliches und hilfsbereites Personal.
