I enjoyed my stay at the hotel. The breakfast was superb. The hotel's location and proximity to the train station are very nice. The staff is friendly and always eager to provide their support.
We enjoyed our stay at this hotel.
Pros:
Restaurant food is good but unfortunately their fine dining restaurant was closed for August.
Service is lovely (especially front desk and restaurant)
The spa is a wonderful retreat after a day of sightseeing
Location is great if you are arriving or departing from train station.
Concierge had great food recommendations!
Guest services were very helpful and responsive via email prior to arrival.
Cons:
Location is further from central Milan tourist sites and not walkable. There is a free hotel shuttle that can take you to central Milan but it is small and it was fully booked every time we tried to use it. Luckily taxi was only 15 EUR each way.
Our room was not ready until after 6:30 despite check in time being 4. They did offer a temporary room.
Some of the furniture is looking a little worn down in the rooms.
We were there during a heat wave and the AC struggled to sufficiently cool the room.
It was difficult to understand how use the lights in the rooms.
Overall we enjoyed our time at the hotel.
Best of the best
The perfect 5 star experience
I came from a wanna be 5 star hotel on lago Maggiore and found this real 5 star luxurious hotel excelsior gallia Milano, what a wonderful Luxus hotel with the friendliest staff possible , great rooms , great beds wonderful sleep!!! Rare theese days …,the best spa and pool food and beverage top, yes the location is at the train station but given the debt they have a shuttle to la scala and galleria which I did not use, everything possible thinkable is provided to guests to make the stay remarkable unique and special thank you for one of the best stays in a hotel for a long time
The bed and pillows were amazing and the spa pool
The only hotel out of nine on our European trip that didn't offer us a proper welcome drink such as sparkling wine and your hotel was the most expensive
Location building staff roof to area the room

Unfortunately, my three-night stay was a very disappointing experience and, in my opinion, nowhere near the standard I would expect from a 5-star hotel.
From the beginning, I encountered several issues, including a leaking ceiling, loud plumbing/piping noise and extremely poor soundproofing. I ultimately had to change rooms three times because of ongoing problems, yet I still wasn’t able to get a proper night’s sleep.
The noise was probably the biggest issue. The rooms, particularly on the first floor, have very poor sound insulation. I could hear the tram from around 6am until 2am, which made sleeping extremely difficult. Even after being moved to a panoramic room, I could still hear and feel vibrations throughout the room, including from the bathroom and even from the bed. By the end of my stay, I was genuinely sleep-deprived.
The air conditioning was also disappointing, particularly given the extreme heat. The lowest setting was 19°C, which wasn’t particularly effective.
Service was another area that needs improvement. Basic requests routinely took around 25–30 minutes to arrive. For a 5-star hotel, I would expect much quicker service. Even irons need to be requested rather than being provided in the room, which I found surprising for a hotel of this category.
The location is also worth considering. It’s roughly a 30-minute walk from the city centre, which isn’t particularly practical in extreme heat. There is a hotel shuttle, but it’s essentially a small six-seater van, so it may not always be convenient.
There were some positives. The pool was lovely and the breakfast service was excellent. The spa also looked very nice, although unfortunately I didn’t get the chance to use it.
However, these positives were overshadowed by the problems with the rooms, noise and overall service. In my view, the hotel is not currently operating at a 5-star level and there is significant room for improvement in maintenance, soundproofing, management and how guest complaints are handled.
Sadly, I would not recommend this hotel and I will not be returning. I came away from the stay exhausted rather than rested, which is particularly disappointing for a hotel of this supposed standard.
