On the decline ….
Pros:

You can’t beat the location of this hotel. I have stayed a few times in recent years for this reason. The air conditioning/ heating was efficient and quiet. The showers are modern, powerful and hot!

Cons:

This was my 4th stay and, sadly, it was the worst. The drain in the bathroom smelt of mould. In fact, I should have asked for a different room but didn’t because shuttling the bathroom door reduced the odour at night. The breakfast was sparse on the Saturday - bacon,eggs and sausages weren’t replaced until a client pushed open the kitchen door and let the cook know there was no food left. The breakfast options were odd - stir fried cauliflower and cold wholemeal spaghetti instead of mushrooms and cooked tomato?? Odd. The bed was hard and was in need of a topper. Very disappointing compared with previous stays at this hotel. The breakfast room receptionist could barely understand English and couldn’t understand me when I asked if she would mind heating the cold coffee (the percolator hadn’t been switched on) in the microwave for 30 secs. Lastly, she didn’t know how to turn on the toaster, so clients didn’t know how to work it until I opened the cupboard and realised it was turned off at the wall. Next time, I’ll try another hotel for my stay in Auckland. It might be time to leave The Rose behind. Sunday’s breakfast seemed more organised and was refreshed more rapidly, but that was because they had a booking for 40+ people due to a visiting sporting team. The teachers had to wait upon arrival for more food though.
