We did not expect 2 buildings. One is a great pub with friendly staff and easy check in/check out. The other is the 2 storey guest building across a small road. We were issued with touch cards to enter first through the main door and again touch and the second door opened. We felt very safe and secure. This was also one of the last rooms left with air conditioning (needed during the heat wave recently)., in North East section of Kent Our room was spacious, very clean and the air con worked well. It was also very quiet at night. The room was cleaned each day and fresh towels and hand towels too. The car park is FREE, on-site and well lit at night. Bathroom had a bath and shower and good hot water. There is a large shopping centre across busy road and also a TESCO superstore with fuel. about 500 metres away. Both of these did not impede on the quietness of the accommodation. Our main reason for visiting was to see long-term friends. We had come from Australia to visit. We would like to thank the Canterbury Bell for having such friendly. helpful staff and always available; also the lovely cleaners who made our room clean each day we stayed. They worked so hard and we had a lot of hold bags and carry on board bags for the trip. Thank you for the 2 nights and your lovely staff who were very friendly.
A big thanks for air-con and the last minute booking we made to see our long time friends.

I had never stayed at The Canterbury Bell (or any Marston hotel) but had enjoyed one or two meals there with a friend.
Its location is perfect for meeting my friend. The first day of my one-night stay was just a day after record high temperatures and still extremely hot, what a relief to step into a clean well presented COOL room. All tidily laid out including the bed/bedding.
I’m a bit fussy with cleanliness but I had no serious concerns about anything.
The shower; it worked, something you should be able to take for granted, but most often can’t.
There are areas where things are getting a bit tired, but not seriously in my opinion.
As for maintenance, the showers override buttons e.g. are scaled up, which is no surprise because not many like scorching water like I do, but a look at these ‘little things’ would tick another box for me.
I would have loved to have got stuck into a full English breakfast of which looked really good as they were being served to those around me, and quite quickly too, but as I had a heavy day ahead, I went with porridge, I expected it to be watery thin, but it was great. Everyone of the staff I met, likely from management to cleaner were friendly and attentive.
An evening meal and some drinks completed a busy day where the staff proved to the last minute be great.
The little things mentioned above
Check in. On meeting manager to check in,we had requested early check in, the manager said it would be 20 pounds per hour extra. We said we were not inform about this in advance, we were not willing to pay this. He replied you do not need to stay if you do not wish to. At this point we both exchanged a few harsh words and we said we prefered to leave if our payment would be returned. He replied it would. We accepted this and left the premises. We are two people in our late seventies and do not expect to be treated this way.
Great that it is just opposite the pub meaning the room itself is quiet.
Located very conveniently for where I needed to be. Rooms are good. Breakfast and evening meals excellent. Good aircon, given the heatwave at the time.
