Cancelled booking without letting us know
Pros:

We had made a booking for four of us prior to going to the theatre. We booked online and confirmed our booking as requested. When we arrived at the pub, we were told they had closed the kitchen. The place did not have the courtesy to let us know.
Place was completely empty, rude staff and looks grim inside and out.
Do yourself a favour and don’t bother going! We won’t be back.

Pros:

Breakfast was amazing.
Bed was two single attached together but still quite comfortable.
Good size room.
Location was great - right on the seafront.

Cons:

Bathroom a bit tired.
Shower pressure was very poor and we couldn’t get any hot water.
Room incredibly hot (stayed during the heatwave) and the fan provided didn’t work properly.

Pros:

Lovely location and lovely staff, would deffo stay here again

Cons:

The only thing I would say is there should be a toliet brush in the bathroom to clean toliet after use, stronger fan we stayed in the heat wave and it was verrry hot.
Also maybe a bigger bin for bedroom

Wouldn’t return
Pros:

Unfortunately, our stay at the Old Colonial was very disappointing.

The room itself was far below the standard we expected. The bathroom had mould on the ceiling, the fabric shower curtain was stained orange with dirt and had a strong damp smell, and the windows overlooking the sea were so filthy that they spoiled what should have been a lovely view.

The hotel also has no lift, which made carrying luggage up the stairs extremely difficult. The rooms are not soundproof at all – we could clearly hear people walking around in the room above us, along with other noises throughout our stay, making it hard to relax or get a good night’s sleep.

Service was equally disappointing. We ordered food for our daughter, and it took over an hour to arrive. Breakfast was included in our booking, yet we were incorrectly charged for it. When we queried the charge, rather than apologising or resolving it promptly, we were told we’d have to wait over an hour for the refund to be processed, which was incredibly frustrating.

The breakfast itself was also very poor. The bacon was grey and unappetising, and the toast had only been toasted on one side, making it feel rushed and of a very low standard.

Overall, the cleanliness, poor soundproofing, disappointing food, and lack of customer service meant this was not an enjoyable stay. We won’t be returning and wouldn’t recommend it based on our experience.

Horrible, would not return.
Pros:

The location.
Check out was 11am which is a nice time.
Fan in bedroom.

Cons:

The cleanliness of the room.
Mould infested in bathroom.
Shower curtain was fabric and smelt like damp.
Bath panel was wooden and rotting.
Dirty windows couldn’t see sea view.
Dirty bed base.
You could hear people walking in the room above.
You could hear convos in rooms around you.
Furniture was dated/broken/chipped.
Photos were wonky on walls.
Carpets in room were stained.
Breakfast was awful bacon was grey/green.
Staff didn’t really know what they were doing.
Waited an hour for my child’s dinner.
