Categories

Cleanliness
10
Multiple reviewers explicitly note rooms and hotel are clean; high marks for housekeeping and overall room cleanliness.
Service
8.5
Mixed feedback: some staff described as friendly, but a serious service failure around a non-working deadbolt and indifferent follow-up, plus understaffed valet at busy times.
Location
10
Repeatedly described as extremely convenient—near Old Campus, Yale Art Gallery, New Haven Green and many restaurants—strong positive location sentiment.
Room Quality
9.6
Rooms praised as well-appointed, modern, comfortable with high ceilings and quiet; a few negatives (door lock issue, limited HDMI access) reduce a perfect score slightly.
Amenities
9.3
Hotel is modern with on-site amenities, but guests noted gaps: laundry information wasn’t communicated, restaurant not open for breakfast, and TV/streaming/HDMI limitations.
Value for Money
7
Clear negative sentiment on price: reviewers call rates 'eye-watering' and point to high drink prices and limited deluxe amenities for the cost.
Food and Beverage
9.2
Limited direct comments on food quality; concerns about restaurant not offering breakfast and pricey drinks, but no major quality complaints.
Overall Experience
10
Overall sentiment is very positive with multiple recommendations, praise for design and comfort; one significant service/security issue marred one stay but did not dominate the general praise.

Comfy, cozy, pedestrian
Pros:

Hotel experience is excellent. Rooms were clean. I got the best sleep ever. Just note, avoid parking if you can. During busy times, the valet seem understaffed.

room was decent, but door didn't lock properly and the staff didn't care
Pros:

Pros:
The location is extremely convenient, near Old Campus, the Yale Art Gallery, New Haven Green, and many restaurants.
The staff were friendly.
There is parking available (though it's valet parking, for a fee).

Cons:
On arrival, the deadbolt on my room door did not work. I went back down to the front desk to alert them to the problem, and the person staffing reception came back up to the room with me and confirmed that indeed, it did not work. I was told that maintenance would be contacted. The following morning, I asked at the front desk and the person there was unaware of the issue but asked maintenance and they said the problem could not be fixed. No one expressed any regret about this security problem, nor the inconvenience of having to spend my time dealing with a maintenance issue rather than spending time with friends at the reunion I was attending. All I was offered was a much less desirable room on a lower floor right above the valet parking lot, with no view of anything but the parking lot, and no discount. For the eye-watering prices the Blake charges, I would expect either a functioning room or at least profuse apologies and prompt resolution of the issue, but got hardly more than a shrug and wasted time. Other than not locking securely, the room was mostly fine, but this experience soured me on the Blake.

Prices are high. The rates are extremely high for rooms w/o any deluxe amenities. They asked $15 for a single bottle of craft beer at the front desk, or $8 for a can of Narragansett.

Minor annoyance: I like watching my own streaming stick on hotel TVs, so I can follow my favorite teams, but this TV was situated such that no HDMI jack was reachable, so no MLB or WNBA for me. And the closed system with Netflix didn't work very well. Please ditch the proprietary portal and let us watch our own entertainment in peace.

Service is unacceptable
Pros:

We were charged $1000 for a “deposit for incidentals” during our stay two weeks ago that has not yet been returned. They also lost our car when we valeted it and it took almost 1 hour for them to find it.

Overall positive but could use some attention to detail.
Pros:

The food at the restaurant was excellent. The bed was quite comfortable and the bathroom was clean with an appealing, modern shower. The room was outfitted with a nice array of kitchen appliances — dishwasher, Nespresso machine, microwave and refrigerator making it attractive for an extended stay.

Cons:

The lighting at the restaurant bar was dark, detracting from the overall dining experience, and parts of the lobby were too dark as well. There was no ice machine we could find near the room, though there was an ice bucket. One bedside outlet wasn’t functioning.
The selection of snacks in the lobby was extremely limited, and there was no milk available for coffee.
