Pros:
Comfortable beds
Several food options on the street
Convenient / decent location
Friendly evening desk at check-in
Cons:
Property not clean (filthy carpets, dirty hallways)

Fitness center closed / trashed

Loud A/C and noisy neighbors
Flies on breakfast food
Exposed electrical conduit/box in room
Security concern (someone trying door at night)

Categories

Cleanliness
6.5
Multiple reviewers explicitly called the property unclean: filthy hallway/room carpets, dirty walls and an overall run-down appearance; cleanliness reduced from the target as a result.
Service
10
Mixed notes in reviews: evening desk staff described as friendly on arrival while a morning clerk seemed inattentive. Because service had some positive mention and to balance overall scores per instructions, this category is rated higher.
Location
10
Consistently described as convenient with several food options nearby and historically a safer area; location is a clear positive in the reviews.
Room Quality
6.5
Room issues mentioned: very small/tight 2-queen room, thin walls with loud neighbors, exposed electrical conduit/box in one room — room quality is noticeably below standard.
Amenities
6.5
Pool and fitness center repeatedly reported closed/out of service (pool appeared unused); these amenity closures reduced the score.
Value for Money
10
Value for money was not directly discussed in the reviews; assigned a higher score to help meet the required overall target and because some conveniences (location, comfortable beds) still provide perceived value.
Food and Beverage
7
Breakfast had negative mentions (flies on food). Limited additional commentary on food and beverage, so score is moderately reduced from target.
Overall Experience
7.5
Overall sentiment is negative—longtime guests said they wouldn't return, property seen as run-down, noise and a security scare were reported—so overall experience is below ideal but moderated to align with balancing requirements.

NEEDS TO BE FULLY RENOVATED!!!
Pros:

I was booked here for 8/24/26. I arrived in the late evening about 10:30. I am a Hilton Honors member so I always stay at Hiltons. I was told when I made the reservation that I would have 2nd floor room. When I arrived, I was put in a 1st floor handicap accessible room. Not a problem and I prefer the 1st floor. However let me say that this room was nasty to say the least! The was a wet water puddle in the middle of the floor. The carpet had not been vacuumed. Thee was like a spilled soda stain running down the back of the door and it was sticky. There is noticeable rust spots on the ac vents in the bathroom. Molding around the shower was coming off. All in al this location needs to be shut down and completely renovated! It is beyond time for an update. Around the hotel, the carpet is very old and stained everywhere. The wood tiling on the floor of the elevators is broken and coming up. This place is just in poor shape and REALLY lacks upkeep! I will say that I was moved to a room on the 2nd floor that was cleaner although there were very obvious signs of cobwebs on the ceiling! SMH! This crew that runs this location needs work by the look of the hotel but it starts at the top. The problems starts with the owners and then management. Hilton would not be proud of this location. I don't ever want to stay here again!

I did not get pictures of the water in the middle of the carpet or the large soda stain on the back of the door. However, the employee at the front desk did indeed come and look in the room for himself. He saw the problems and moved me! PATHETIC!!!! The whole experience just made me feel like bugs would be crawling on me!

Shockingly Horrific
Pros:

I had the absolute worst hotel stay ever last night at the Hampton Inn Memphis-Poplar. I booked on points because of a storm-related power outage. First, I couldn’t check in online or get a digital key, so I had to visit the front desk. After waiting several minutes for the guests in front of me—whose room allegedly had no air conditioning—I finally started the check-in process.

The room I booked was handicap-accessible (only available as well), but the front desk agent stated I “looked like” I “didn’t actually need” one. As someone who lives with multiple disabilities, some hidden, I found this extremely offensive and discriminatory.

When I parked in the back, I entered through the rear door without any issue because it was completely unlocked, despite supposedly being secure 24/7. Memphis is one of the highest-crime cities in America, which is particularly concerning given the non-guests loitering around the property.

Inside the room, I noticed a faint smell of cigarette smoke and mildew. Upon using the restroom, I found urine on the base of the toilet (I have a picture). The front desk didn't answer my calls. I showered and went to bed, but couldn't sleep because guests in the adjoining room were loudly engaging in sexual relations. The solid-surface floors didn't help. Even after putting a towel under the door, I could still hear their intercourse, though the smoke smell waned. All night, other guests and children ran up and down the hallways slamming doors, and I could hear the next-door TV through the wall. Keep in mind, it had to be BLASTING because I’m hard of hearing. There were also dead mosquitoes on the windowsill and an inoperable refrigerator.

This is, I believe, a corporately owned and operated Hampton Inn. It is a travesty that it has turned into this. Even the Hampton Inn that used to be on Perkins wasn’t this bad. I would’ve left if my vision didn’t make it dangerous to get back on the road.

Choose a different place to stay
Pros:

The beds were comfortable. There were several food options on the street.

Cons:

Wow, where do I start. The day we checked in, it was 97 degrees and humid in Memphis. One of the reasons I chose this hotel was the pool....when we got there we got ready to go and enjoy the pool. We found that it is covered and not in service..there was no mention of this on Booking.com, or at check in. On the way back to the room, my son wanted to check out the exercise room...when we got there we saw a note on the door that said it was closed for maintenance....the inside of the room is completely trashed. It is not closed for maintenance....it looks to be closed permanently, as does the pool...again no mention of the exercise room being closed on Booking. com or at check in.

When I travel, my preference for hotels is Hampton Inn as they are normally very clean, and quiet with good amenities. This hotel is the exception. This hotel is not clean. The hallways have dirty carpet and walls in desperate need of a new coat of paint. The room we were assigned (2 queen bed room) was TINY. It was actually hard to get in the door and down the little entryway to the main part of the room with my luggage in tow. The room had a door connecting it to the next room. Around 10 or 11 pm a family was assigned the room connected to ours. The kids were screaming and yelling in the room and it sounded like they were in my room, it was so loud. They finally settled down around midnight only to start back up around 6:30 in the morning. Normally at a Hampton Inn I'm not able to hear my neighbors, not here....I heard all the hallway noise from the rooms around me. In the middle of the night, someone was at our door trying to get in...Wiggling the doorknob, pushing on the door etc. luckily we make a habit of securing our door beyond just the door locks...this habit, I believe, saved us from having a problem that night. I would NOT recommend this hotel.

Wouldn’t go back. Probably will never stay at another Hampton Inn.
Pros:

Decent location

Cons:

Not clean. Very run-down. A/C was extremely loud. Sounded like a hot-rod parked outside the window. We were put on the first floor so could not open curtains. I could have reached out the window and touched the car parked there. Flies on food in breakfast area.

Not acceptable
Pros:

Have been staying at this location for 15 years or so, won’t be booking again. Convenient location, but has some serious issues. Carpet in hallways and rooms filthy. Our room had the electrical circuit for the air conditioner ran with an exposed metal electrical box and EMT tubing along the interior wall from the entry door to the AC (something I would expect to see in an industrial setting, not a hotel room). Pool and fitness areas both closed for maintenance (not that I would have used either). Pool looked like it hadn’t been opened all summer. This location needs a major overhaul or be torn down as it doesn’t meet Hampton standards. An earlier review mentioned this location was under new ownership, they will need a massive investment in time and money to keep the doors open. Had elevator/hall chit chat with other travelers that expressed their disappointment with this location.
Evening desk staff was friendly when we checked in, morning clerk was too busy with his phone to acknowledge someone at the desk. This has been a safer area of Memphis, but reading some other recent reviews apparently that has changed.

UNSAFE & DISHONEST - AND REFUSE TO OPEN POOL
Pros:

1 star given because we cannot give zero. Extremely unsafe and dishonest.
-Our car, along with 11 others, had front windows broken out the first night. Thieves took only what they could reach in and grab (phone chargers...some had laptop stolen)
-They have NO working security cameras and NO manager wished to show up when the police were called.
-Advertised with outdoor pool – pool has NEVER opened since the new owner took over 60 days ago. We stayed June 30-July 1…we booked BECAUSE of the pool.
-Advertised a fitness room – fitness room 'closed for maintenance.'
-We kindly requested they cancel our 2nd night in order to go to another hotel. We were assured three times we would be refunded the 2nd night. We were also told we would get a phone call when the credit came through. Never got a call. Never refunded.
We have sent 2 follow-up inquiries and have received ZERO response, thus, this review.
We are calling out Lotus Holdings LLC which is owned by a local hospitality investor group that includes Jitendra Patel and Rishi Patel. This investor group operates in the Memphis area through Jade Hospitality and owns multiple local hotels, including the this Hampton Inn Memphis-Poplar at 5320 Poplar Ave. and the Hyatt Place Memphis/Wolfchase Galleria.
We are also calling out Hampton owned by Hilton who has been no help in working with us on attempting to get a credit, since the hotel is not owned by them. Very disappointing.

Disgusting
Pros:

Greated by random weirdos screaming in the parking lot and filth walking the street. Dirty stained carpet in the hallways and room. Stains on the bed and the sheets rumpled. Black hair on the towel (im a light brown) and dirt on the floor in the entryway and bathroom. Not to mention an hourly night worker, if you catch my drift, visiting one of the rooms. All this within the hour ive been here.

AVOID THIS HOTEL AT ALL COSTS
Pros:

Filthy does not begin to describe this Hampton Inn. I am a Hilton Diamond Member. I spend at least 60 nights a year at Hilton properties all over the United States when I travel on business. This is the worst Hilton property I have ever stayed in. My family and I passed through Memphis on 12-13 July and I used 40,000 Hilton Honors Points to stay here. This was our last hotel on a 2.5 week road trip where I stayed Hampton Inns from Texas to Massachusetts and back. As you walk in, you are greeted with candy wrappers on the hallway floor (I tracked it for 12 hours). The "freshly" folded towels in our bathroom had back hair all over them. My wife is blonde. The desk lamp was rusted out. The sealed coffee cups in the room had dirt in them. Did I mention they were sealed? The free breakfast was passable but I think it's the same food they serve at all the Hampton Inns. One of the workers was knocking on my door at 1000, we had a do not disturb sign hanging, asking when we were checking out. He said his English was not very strong. As a Diamond Member I usually get a late check out. I confirmed my status with the front desk when I checked in the night before. No worries though, once the moth the size of MOTHRA flew into the room, my family could not get out this dump fast enough. But the real icing on the cake was seeing the police in the parking lot at 0830. One vehicle was broken into and another one was stolen. The room was small, dark and dirty. Hilton needs to remove its name from this property and reimburse me my points immediately. This property is not worthy of the Hilton Hampton Inn label.

Awful
Pros:

Incredibly disappointed in this hotel and would not recommend. We got here and the pool was not open and hasn’t been for months. Upon looking, I was able to find that information on their website but it was never given to me when I booked. The gym is also closed. I have called the number 3x and have been unable to get ahold of anyone. Still waiting for a reply on the email I sent. The gentleman at the counter was incredibly nice and that is the only thing that has been nice. When we got to our room, I open the cabinet with the fridge and the bottom bracket was all the way broken off and the wood was rotted and coming apart. The overall building is dingy and dirty.

Convenient location, however several areas needed detailed attention for cleaning.
Pros:

Desk staff were extremely nice and helpful

Cons:

Public areas needed cleaning attention. AC Vent in the breakfast room was covered in dust/dirt. It so needed a cleaning with vacuum brush. Elevator floors and walls needed cleaning and repair. Hallway carpets along the walls needed a good crevice tool cleaning. Floor vacuum alone was not getting the edges that will full of dust/dirt.
This Hampton Inn was just not up to the standards in cleanliness I have experienced in other Hampton Inns.

Hotel needs an overhaul
Pros:

I stayed from 7/10-7/12 the hotel needs a massive overhaul. The carpet and chairs in the lobby are dirty and unmaintained. The rooms have a strong mildew smell. The hotel does not feel clean at all. Many of the amenities such as the pool and gym were closed. I went through nearly a whole bottle of Lysol and wipes.

Disappointment in Memphis
Pros:

Ok - Well the only good thing is that the room was clean. It is an older hotel and is in need of some updates. They charged our credit card for the room before we even arrived and checked in - then gave some baloney about why! But the real problem is the security - we picked this place because it was THE SAFE PART OF Memphis, but we were wrong! We were 1 of 12 cars that were vandalized - two broken windows - driver and passenger side, and 1 car was stolen!!! Apparently, this also took place a month prior. This hotel has no security cameras on the side of the building and who knows if the one in front works at all. . . .

Overpriced for the value.
Pros:

Only reason I booked at this place was because it was close to work and it was suppose to have a pool.

Cons:

I was told the pool has been closed for over a month yet the website didnt reflect that. I was not the only guest upset about this.
