Lovely staff, but premises dirty and scruffy and carpets should be replaced . Wasted potential.
Pros:

Staff lovely, bedding and towels spotless. Tea and coffee tray with biscuits was a nice addition as well as a bottle of water .Soap shower gel and shampoo provided .no hairdryer .
Meal at dinner was good value and breakfast choice was adequate the next morning.

Cons:

Carpets filthy especially in the bar area , large spillage stains all over them , dining tables sticky to the touch and needed re varnishing. Dog running free around dining room and elsewhere with doggy soft toys left lying around the floor causing a trip hazard. Doors not clean. Could do with a complete overhaul. Wife’s breakfast of poached eggs on toast were overcooked and inedible. Very limited parking for 4 vehicles and very tight spaces. It was so bad we left a day early, having paid for the night we left. The only mirror in the bathroom was placed so high it was impossible to use . The toilet seat was broken in that it moved everytime it was used .

We very much enjoyed our short stay at the Griffin and would happily book again.
Pros:

The bedroom was spacious, clean and comfortable and the bathroom was spotless. The rooms are at the opposite end of the building to the bar and ours was very quiet. All (?) rooms overlook the peaceful churchyard. The bar offered a good selection of real ales at very reasonable prices and we enjoyed a very pleasant evening meal from the traditional pub food menu. The inclusive English breakfast was freshly cooked and set us up well for the day. The staff were all very helpful and friendly and our stay was excellent value for money.

Cons:

The bar and restaurant area would benefit from a minor facelift, in particular the bar carpet (never a good idea!) and the table tops. The building is historic and attractive and with very little work this area could be brought up to the condition that it deserves.

Pros:

The parking information could be better on the site as if you don't know the area like we didn't it was unclear where to go.

A memorable stay for all the right reasons.
Pros:

The Griffin Hotel/pub was exactly what we expected, being a very, very old building. A very traditional hostelry with an atmosphere to match. All staff were very pleasant, helpful and really hard working. Our room was of historic structure, spotlessly clean with immaculate snow white bedding and towels and a nice view. Very welcome tea and coffee making facility, biscuits and bottled water supplied as well. Perfect.
The bed itself gave us a really comfortable nights sleep. Breakfast was beautifully cooked and very tasty which set us up for our journey home. We will definitely visit again when back in the area.

Cons:

Nothing.
