Just book it!
Pros:

The Captain Cook hotel is fun and quirky. We stayed there for two nights and the beginning of our Alaska trip and had a great experience. The hotel is huge and is hopping at all hours. Rooms were spacious and well maintained with views of the Inlet. Location is perfect with lots of shops and restaurants within a couple of blocks.

Good place to stay
Pros:

We were here as part of a Holland America Cruise tour. Unfortunately, there were a few rooms that were not ready, and ours were one of them. We were traveling with my 90 year old parent and needless to say she was exhausted after a long day. Our room was not ready for another two hours. That was not cool, but I will say that it was clean when we finally got in. The room was comfortable and met our needs for the one night we were there. I really appreciated the blackout curtains. The bedding situation needs to be worked out. It consisted of a flat duvet covered by 2 sheets. Predictably it all fell apart over night. There are restaurants and shops in the hotel and we enjoyed walking through the shops and eating at Fletcher’s and the Pantry. The food at both places was great. We were tired so I ordered a salad to go from Fletchers for dinner, and they were wonderfully accommodating. We had breakfast at The Pantry, they had delicious food and they were so efficient. When we told them we were short on time, they got us in and out in record time. I highly recommend this restaurant in the hotel.
The front desk staff were friendly and professional.
There is a great walking trail that follows the coast that is very accessible from this hotel.

Great night at the Hotel Captain Cook.
Pros:

We cruised with Princess Cruise Lines our last night was at the Hotel Captain Cook. Our room was excellent in every way. The perfect end to our two weeks with Princess. One of the best rooms I have ever stayed at. The breakfast in the Pantry the next morning was also excellent. The service provided by this Hotel is second to none.

Hotel Captain Cook Came Up Just a Bit Short!
Pros:

Rough start to an otherwise fantastic family trip! We got into Anchorage after a long flight and went to check into the Hotel Captain Cook. A few days before I called to confirm our reservation. All good. I had an email with the amount, type of room and a CONFIRMATION number. The hotel couldn't find the reservation. I went back and forth with the person checking us in. She was pleasant and tried to help. Another person remembered our phone conversation and confirmed I had the room. I was getting frustrated, but wasn't angry. While this was happening, another person called security. Instead of standing back and assessing the situation, the security person came right up to me and told me to calm down. Until then I was calm.....but now I was pissed!!! We ended up getting into a room, but was charged $400 more than what I was supposed to pay. At this point I just wanted to get into a room.
That night we ate at the Crow's Nest which was fantastic. We left for Seward the next day and returned to the Hotel Captain Cook two days later. The check-in went smoothly. The person who helped us was great. All in all our stay was nice.

Bad experience
Pros:

We had a very unpleasant experience at captain cook and I would never return to the property. We were exhausted when we arrived and wanted nothing more than to go to bed. I crawled into bed and when I looked at the blanket situation, I had 2 sheets on either side of what I think at one time was a duvet. It was completely flat, no stuffing left, had holes in it and was filthy. We called down to the desk and they said they would send someone up. We had to call 2 more times before that actually happened. The excuse we got was that housekeeping is not there at night. They brought us a couple of blankets to replace the duvet (??) but I was grossed out. Overall the room was dated, shabby and the bathroom was not very clean. Wildbirch is a much better option than this place.

Hotel Captain Cook Review
Pros:

This is your standard 4-5-star hotel with all the related amenities. This included both women and men fitness facilities. We have not seen that before. Unfortunately, we were up and ready to exercise prior to their 6 a.m. opening time, so we did not actually use the fitness areas.

The hotel has 3 different towers facing different parts of Anchorage. Our room (505 in Tower 1) happened to be facing the bay and was a solid view for our overnight stay. ALL of our luggage was waiting in our room upon arrival. Now, here is where we were greeted with broken wheels on different pieces of luggage. Based on the prior issues, we would assume that was a Princess issue. Unfortunately, one piece of luggage was missing 3 rollers and had to be replaced. Princess (and other cruise lines) have an area on site at the hotel, so it was convenient to make another damage claim and inquire about items.

The guest rooms themselves are big and comfortable. The hotel itself has a lot of interesting art work about Captain Cook and his explorations. There were also a larger than expected number of shops and such around the main lobby area. Even a shoe shine stand which are few and far between nowadays.

We ate dinner at the Whale’s Tail which was good. The service was fine. Wait times were too long and the waiter, who was also a bartender, tried a bit too hard with the jokes. It happened to be trivia night, so we participated in that and had our asses handed to us. Hey, all in good fun!

We did not really explore Anchorage. A couple of our group went off site to a local diner that they said was fantastic for breakfast. We did not have a lot of time to explore since it was just an overnight stay. We would definitely recommend staying here more than one night and seeing Anchorage a bit more.

Concierge Did Well!
Pros:

Arrived with a bus load or two and only two rooms were not ready, yep, we were one! After a bit of angst, the concierge came through and got us another room. Perfect corner room which was huge and comfy. The highlight was a large & functional bathroom with night lights and a non-slip tub. The Hotel consisted of 3 towers with several bars & restaurants and was super busy. Only a short stay but a good night's rest ensued.
