Located in the heart of downtown Anchorage, Alaska, the Hotel Captain Cook is Anchorage's only Preferred Hotel. With 557 finely appointed rooms, including 94 suites, the hotel offers a multitude of options, over-the-top service and meticulous attention to detail. Every room and suite offers stunning views of the neighboring Cook Inlet, downtown Anchorage or the Chugach Mountains. The hotel features five distinct restaurants and separate men's and women's athletic clubs with pool, sauna, steam room and massage therapy.

Spectacular weekend at Captain Cook that left my husband and I feeling supremely spoiled.
Pros:

Our room was so amazingly cozy, I love a room with a ceiling fan and it's sadly so uncommon in Alaska. Opened the window and ran the fan for just supremely cool sleep. The room was so incredibly quiet. The second night of our stay we bopped down for a nightcap around 11pm and Fletcher's was doing a tidy business. The waitress went out of her way to ensure my martini order was made perfectly. Every interaction with an employee of the hotel was incredibly positive. I've stayed here before a few times, but this stay was one for the books. Thank you Captain Cook!

Cons:

The audio quality on the TV was really horrendous.

Cons:

Location in Anchorage full of homeless and drug addicts. My wife was threatened with a knife by a drugged up woman wanting a cigarette! And this was during lunchtime. The streets are like a scene from zombies dawn of the dead! The city needs to do a better job with sheltering these guys as they are a threat…. Be warned

Pros:

Good location. Attentive staff. Nice painting all around giving a very good feeling about the place— like a museum.

Cons:

Hotel is dated. Toilets are very low— designed for short people. It seems it is designed only for cruise passengers. For $600 per night, this is not up to mark.

Old world charm with modern comforts
Pros:

Historic hotel with decor of old lodges of the past. The room was clean and comfortable, and the bed and pillows were luxurious. Lots of wood accents and crown molding, and granite counters for the bathroom. We ate at the crows nest, and had an excellent meal and service and beautiful views of the bay. The hotel has three towers and the lobby that connects all three with a variety of restaurants and services and shops.

Awesome hotel experience!
Pros:

Perfect location and a very nice, updated hotel. Good food.. all a little pricey. Several cute shops in the hotel too

Horrific Captain Hook Hotel
Pros:

Arrived early at 11, luggages checked. Medicine required refrigeration. Explained daughter needed to change insulin pump by 3. Desk said they'd have housekeeping prioritize our room.
Should be 1-2 hours. Checked back at 2:30 not ready but our friends room was ready. Checked back at 3:30 not ready. Check in is normally 4 pm and at 4:40 room still not ready.
Princess cruise desk line was 20 people long the first time, 40 the second and at 4:40 over 100 people long.
Worst check in experience at a hotel in my 40 years of traveling.
Strongly suggest not going with princess or going to Captain. The public areas are nice but the rooms are like motel 6.
