Good location. Attentive staff. Nice painting all around giving a very good feeling about the place— like a museum.
Hotel is dated. Toilets are very low— designed for short people. It seems it is designed only for cruise passengers. For $600 per night, this is not up to mark.

Historic hotel with decor of old lodges of the past. The room was clean and comfortable, and the bed and pillows were luxurious. Lots of wood accents and crown molding, and granite counters for the bathroom. We ate at the crows nest, and had an excellent meal and service and beautiful views of the bay. The hotel has three towers and the lobby that connects all three with a variety of restaurants and services and shops.
Perfect location and a very nice, updated hotel. Good food.. all a little pricey. Several cute shops in the hotel too
It was expensive!
Arrived early at 11, luggages checked. Medicine required refrigeration. Explained daughter needed to change insulin pump by 3. Desk said they'd have housekeeping prioritize our room.
Should be 1-2 hours. Checked back at 2:30 not ready but our friends room was ready. Checked back at 3:30 not ready. Check in is normally 4 pm and at 4:40 room still not ready.
Princess cruise desk line was 20 people long the first time, 40 the second and at 4:40 over 100 people long.
Worst check in experience at a hotel in my 40 years of traveling.
Strongly suggest not going with princess or going to Captain. The public areas are nice but the rooms are like motel 6.
Perfekte Lage! Toller Service!
Spent one night to start our land tour of Alaska. We were booked through our Holland America cruise. We were blown away as this hotel far exceeded our expectations. We had a huge suite with a living room, huge bathroom and bedroom. Very comfortable bed, nice linens, very clean bathroom stocked with everything we needed. Location was perfect, the whole downtown area was easily walkable. Very quiet, would definitely stay here again.
The Captain Cook hotel is fun and quirky. We stayed there for two nights and the beginning of our Alaska trip and had a great experience. The hotel is huge and is hopping at all hours. Rooms were spacious and well maintained with views of the Inlet. Location is perfect with lots of shops and restaurants within a couple of blocks.
We were here as part of a Holland America Cruise tour. Unfortunately, there were a few rooms that were not ready, and ours were one of them. We were traveling with my 90 year old parent and needless to say she was exhausted after a long day. Our room was not ready for another two hours. That was not cool, but I will say that it was clean when we finally got in. The room was comfortable and met our needs for the one night we were there. I really appreciated the blackout curtains. The bedding situation needs to be worked out. It consisted of a flat duvet covered by 2 sheets. Predictably it all fell apart over night. There are restaurants and shops in the hotel and we enjoyed walking through the shops and eating at Fletcher’s and the Pantry. The food at both places was great. We were tired so I ordered a salad to go from Fletchers for dinner, and they were wonderfully accommodating. We had breakfast at The Pantry, they had delicious food and they were so efficient. When we told them we were short on time, they got us in and out in record time. I highly recommend this restaurant in the hotel.
The front desk staff were friendly and professional.
There is a great walking trail that follows the coast that is very accessible from this hotel.
We cruised with Princess Cruise Lines our last night was at the Hotel Captain Cook. Our room was excellent in every way. The perfect end to our two weeks with Princess. One of the best rooms I have ever stayed at. The breakfast in the Pantry the next morning was also excellent. The service provided by this Hotel is second to none.
Cleanliness, staffing was great and location.
