The location is excellent — very central, with public transport stops and the main shopping streets all within easy walking distance.
There is currently major renovation work taking place directly in front of the entrance. Fortunately, the windows are well soundproofed, so we did not hear any disturbing noise in the room.
The lobby has a pleasant fragrance and a beautiful, large bouquet of fresh flowers, which creates a nice first impression. However, the artificial flowers in the restaurant felt rather out of place — although, to be fair, artificial flowers seem to be quite common throughout the Netherlands.
The breakfast was perfectly adequate, with a good selection, but the offering was almost identical every day, so a little more variety would have been appreciated.
The bed was very comfortable, with a good size and firmness.
The hotel is not really modern, but rather has a 1960s–70s style. While the overall cleanliness was acceptable, some areas could use more attention, and a few worn-out furnishings could definitely be replaced.
We were not given any information about what the 5-star rating actually means in terms of services or facilities. It would have been helpful to know what additional services are provided compared with a 4-star hotel.
The room itself was well equipped, although the minibar fridge was completely empty. Drinks and other items can be ordered, but nothing was prepared in the room upon arrival.
There were also a few other breakfast options that could be ordered separately. Although there were plenty of staff members and used dishes were cleared away promptly, the buffet was not replenished as quickly or as thoroughly as I would have expected.
The fruit juice was 100% juice, but it was not freshly squeezed.
And the cheese selection was disappointingly small; I would have expected a much wider variety from a hotel of this standard. :/
One thing to note: a €50 deposit is required, or €100 per night in cash.
