I have stayed in some extraordinary hotels, and this one is right up there among my favorites! The room, the amenities, the staff are all first class. The uniqueness of the architecture was alone worth staying there.
My husband and I enjoyed our staycation at Shinola Hotel. The customer service was amazing! We were greeted with champagne, and a warm welcome from our host. The room was clean, comfy, and centered with all the local restaurants and lots of shopping opportunities.
I did not like the view. But if you looked far to the left you could see the cobblestone alleyway that leads to most of the restaurants.
Excellent ambience, super friendly staff, and great location. I avoided the usual chains and opted for Shinola given good reviews and it did not disappoint.
When I tell you that this was beyond expectations, believe it. As a family, we travel a lot. Being from Detroit, I had high hopes for the Shinola. Having lived in San Diego for 20 years, I was not sure what to expect. Every single staff member greeted me with courtesy and respect.. every single time. From the woman in housekeeping who stopped what she was doing to walk us down the hallway to our room, to Jelani at the front desk, I hope I spelled his name right, who took the time to find a coloring book and pencils for my eight-year-old daughter.. he did not have to do that. He offered to because he’s a good person. With a beautiful smile, by the way.… it literally does not get better than that. Our room was perfectly maintained. The food was amazing. The living room upstairs was reminiscent of an old jazz club, complete with pool table. Literally the best part of our Detroit trip.
The Shinola Hotel Detroit is second to none. The hotel is gorgeous, the staff is warm, friendly, and so helpful. I live in LA and was in town on business, and they couldn't have been any more accommodating and delightful to work with. Highly recommend. Grateful to the entire staff!
I would recommend everyone stay here if coming to Detroit. The location is perfect. The beds are so comfortable, rooms clean, amenities are fabulous. We felt like we were the most important guest here and the staff really do go out of their way to give an exceptional experience. We can’t wait to come back! The hotel is conveniently located by the QLine and people mover so getting around is a breeze.
My stay at the Shinola Hotel was exceptional from start to finish. The customer service truly stood out—Jalauni went above and beyond to make sure every part of my stay was comfortable and enjoyable. Their professionalism, friendliness, and attention to detail made me feel genuinely welcomed. The rest of the staff were equally warm, attentive, and eager to help, creating an outstanding guest experience.
The food and drinks served on site were fantastic. Every meal was delicious, and the cocktails were expertly crafted, making it easy to enjoy the hotel's restaurants and bars without ever needing to leave the property.
The convenience of the hotel's location and amenities made my trip even better. Everything I wanted to explore was easily accessible, and having excellent dining options right on site was a huge plus. I highly recommend the Shinola Hotel to anyone looking for outstanding hospitality, amazing food and drinks, and a seamless, comfortable stay. I look forward to returning for a third stay!
Our overall experience exceeded our expectation! From the staff, hotel cleanliness and the onsite restaurants were awesome! We will be returning soon for a longer stay!
Shinola presents itself as a high-end, high-star stay, so expectations should be high. I’m from the area, so I understand that “care” and “service” are not always Detroit’s strongest points, but for a hotel at this level, they should be.
The staff is average. The rooms and furniture are showing wear. The bikes are old and basically unridable. If Shinola simply refreshed the property and brought in leadership that genuinely cared, I think it would show through the staff they lead.
I have given this hotel at least five tries, and over the last couple of years, it has consistently been a miss for me.
Another fantastic stay here. The rooms are beautiful and spacious, the service is attentive and kind. And the location is ideal for exploring Detroit.
Very cute hotel in a great location! The staff was very friendly, easy valet parking, unique rooms, and walkable to the ballpark.
Hotel is so nice and unique. The buildings history is interesting and makes it so special. The staff is superb, attentive and helpful. The area around the hotel is was great to bar hop and walk around. Perfect spot in the city and an amazing hotel. Will definitely be back.
Very stylish hotel, nice staff, room clean other than sofa which had seen better days. Our biggest complaint, no sleep. The noise of drunken revellers in the alley outside our room, more in the hallways and the cars racing up and down Woodward revving their engines went on for hours. The windows need to be upgraded for sound proofing. The Evening Bar was pleasant for a cocktail, as was dinner at San Morello. The free breakfast parfait was delicious, but the pastries greatly lacking, a tiny store bought type croissant, cake and focaccia. Just a bit of an odd choice.
Sam at the front desk was wonderful.
Will stay there more and give away as gifts to family members.
Great experience overall.
Pros:
- ideal location
- cheerful service at front desk, albeit not very knowledgeable
- elegantly designed room
- separate toilet room
- fantastic dinner at San Morello
Cons:
- no towel racks or hooks in the bathroom or hallway, except for a single one on the door
- only 2 accessible electrical outlets (one by the nightstand, 1 by the feet of the sofa)
- limited choices for breakfasts, most being too greasy
Beautiful hotel with impeccable service and style. In the heart of thriving downtown Detroit with easy access to many activities. Quiet, clean and well designed guest rooms. We hope to come back again in the near future.
I could barely sleep on the weekend. It was so loud outside my window, I was constantly being woken up. The restuarant was also terrible. I had the pastry basket for breakfast at San Morello. First, there was only one pastry, a croissant; the rest were cakes and some focaccia. Second, it was all absolutely disgusting. The croissant wasn't crisp and flaky. Instead, it seemed like the sort of cheap croissant you get at a grocery store, that has been sitting out for a long time. The flat white I had one of the other days was undrinkable. I'm shocked that such an expensive hotel could have such a low-quality breakfast offering.
I would never stay here again and I must say that I've never been so disappointed with a hotel I have paid so much to stay at!
What a great discovery.
We had a beautiful suite, excellent room service, and the San Morello restaurant downstairs was absolutely top-notch in food, service, and atmosphere.
We just spent two nights for a little getaway, and we are very glad we did.
I'm pretty sure this is the first time I discovered a hotel because my favorite belt has their name on it.
