The hotel was lovely and glamorous downstairs, and the bar and restaurant were very pleasant.
Unfortunately, the hotel let itself down when it came to the rooms. We were particularly disappointed by the lack of sound insulation from the bedroom windows. It genuinely felt as though we were sleeping outside, with construction work, car horns and banging audible at all hours.
For a hotel of this standard, and with modern double glazing, I would have expected much better sound insulation.
Until this issue is addressed, I would strongly recommend requesting a room towards the inside of the hotel, away from the road, to avoid the noise.
The location and how beautiful and stunning the hotel and decor is, we love all the original features. A host at the restaurant showed us round all the beautiful rooms (didn’t catch his name but he has worked there for 16 years)

The staff was exceptional. The room was really nice and open and airy and handsome. The beds were comfortable.
I truly loved the stay except the shower was one of those wide rain shower types and it was soooo hard to get it through my hair. The pressure was just too spread out. Kind of wrecked my morning shower.
Also, the location seemed good at first, but we could not get a trolley to stop for us at that location. They were all full. We had to walk up and down hills to get to a better trolley area. Even the stops nearby on the walk toward the water also had full trolleys. Not the hotel’s fault, but does speak to the location at least in part.
The property is fine
I found it quite dirty, our room was not cleaned multiple days during our stay. We stayed in a suite and it definitely looks much larger in the photos. There is a mini couch giving illusion of more space. We stayed for 5 nights so definitely wanted some more room but alas.
The central location puts us within walking distance of Chinatown, Little Italy, and the Ferry Building, or you can hop on a trolley or take a rideshare. Plenty of restaurants within walking distance.
The hotel's classic feel reminds us of New York City, which is a nice experience without the 2,500-mile trip.
The rooms are clean, comfortable, and up to date - Great value in our opinion. The beds are comfy and gave us some of the best sleep we've had while traveling. The value for a stay is appropriate, given the proximity to so many landmarks and experiences.
The staff is superb and welcoming. Everyone from the front office, the bar near the lobby, and the Starlight Lounge has gone above and beyond to provide the atmosphere we now call our home away from home whenever we're in the city.
During San Francisco's rainy season, the amenities are a great way to enjoy indoor time. Good luck. Our overall experience is what keeps us coming back at least twice a year.
Our experience at the hotel was made exceptional thanks to Jojit. He was incredibly warm, welcoming, and attentive to all of our needs. From the moment we arrived, he went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and well accommodated. Outstanding hospitality!
Nice central location on Union Square
Piękny stary styl. Zachowany stary system pocztowy dla gości hotelu - kto był ten wie o co chodzi.
Location
The hotel has charm, but the food was very mediocre. It’s a nice place to stay once, but lacks a real reason to stay there again.
Loved Starlite, hotel was beautiful, and the location was perfect!
the hotel and room were beautiful. The room was comfortable and had a great view.
the sliding bathroom door left a large gap even when fully closed and therefore did not offer full privacy.
A lovely hotel with everything you need: great location, good food, comfortable/clean rooms, terrific service. I stay here every month for work and I look forward to it.
