Breakfast is a disaster here. You can order off a menu at a small bistro attached to the hotel which does not have nearly enough capacity to sit enough guests. I got there at 7:10am and received my order only at 7:50am. Apparently I was one of the lucky ones as people who arrived just after me could not even get a table and had to wait to get seated. Very confusing messaging as according to the restaurant staff there was usually a buffet, but when I asked the front desk afterwards they told me there is never a buffet so would be good if they could just get their story straight. In any case, these extremely long wait times are just unacceptable. I never had to wait so long for breakfast at a hotel. Plus. The food is also mediocre.
Despite my initial intention to stay for several nights, an unforeseen circumstance arose, compelling me to cancel my reservation. Sophie, the Front Desk representative, proved to be an invaluable asset in this situation. After enduring the stress and inconvenience caused by the unfolding events, she assisted me in managing my cancellation. I eagerly anticipate my future stay at the Hilton Orrington. It has long been on my list of preferred hotels, and now, I have additional motivation to explore its offerings.
I was here for a Rotary conference. I arrived late, was exhausted, hungry and very tired. Sophia was at the front desk and my mood immediately improved. Her smile, laughter, helplessness and spirit are beyond measures! I not only felt better inside I felt welcomed into a city I’m not familiar with and all around happy! She is an incredible asset to your team! Sophia I hope you know that you made my stay here amazing!!
I had a great visit to the Hilton Orrington! The property has been beautifully renovated and was the perfect place for us to stay in Evanston. The rooms are perfect, the property is historic, and the location can't be beat just a few steps away from Northwestern University. The staff are excellent, friendly, and professional!
Alexis at the Hilton Orrington was incredibly kind and helpful from the moment we arrived. She made check in feel warm and welcoming and immediately helped make our stay feel special. Such a wonderful first impression and a great way to begin our trip.
Perfect mix of historic charm and a fresh modern renovation. Super convenient location right by Northwestern’s campus and downtown Evanston. Front desk team was friendly and welcoming, and the rooms felt clean, updated, and comfortable. Two restaurant options right off the lobby was a plus. Really enjoyed the stay and will definitely be back!
It was quick and nothing bad unexpected
Location was OK
a bit impersonal, there was a Kellogg event and staff didn't make an effort to learn of it
I was part of a group who planned a celebratory reception and dinner at the Orrington for about 75 people. The event was a great success – delicious food in a pleasant setting, complete with stylish servingware and discreet service as we proceeded with toasts and tributes. Perfect! The Senior Catering Sales Manager could not have been more helpful, patient, or responsive to our needs. As examples, she offered any number of suggestions for improving the event, stored various supplies we wanted for our specific celebration in advance of the celebration, and readily ensured that the specific dietary requirements of some of our guests were met. The acoustics were not perfect and there was a bit of a delay in providing sufficient sparkling wine during our reception, but these were minor problems against the backdrop of an event that went exceptionally well – even though none of the people planning it (aside from Orrington personnel) had any experience with such events. I highly recommend the Orrington as a venue for celebratory receptions and dinners!
Rooms hot, windows nailed shut so couldn't get any fresh air, AC only cools to 20 degrees , thermostats pre-programmed I imagine for cost savings. With very muggy , hot rooms it was stifling.
Loved the check in experience with Daniel, super easy and quick!!
Location
My room was not cleaned and serviced for 2 of the 3 days I was there. The thermostat was not working properly and the front desk had an engineer come to repair the AC, but it still was not working and was either too hot or too cold in the room. The last day I turned it off.
Daniel was super helpful and nice, great experience
The room
Breakfast
Great location, within walking distance to NU. Front desk staff Daniel is super friendly and helpful , we will definitely come back next time.
This hotel and experience was a great surprise. We came for a family gathering, which was hosted by the hotel, and they did an excellent job. Our reception was warm and engaging. The rooms are a bit small and bathrooms are euro tiny, but it was immaculately clean. Overall this was a great stay for our family. Any room concerns were met with professionalism and kindness. I would highly recommend for the price; interestingly, the service was hands down better than the 5* hotel we had just left in downtown Chicago for 3x the cost.
Chose the hotel due to its walking distance proximity to Northwestern for a campus visit (didn't have a car). I'd say the hotel is overall adequate. It's an older building so it's a bit dark in the hallways. The older windows were big which was nice although nails to keep them shut stuck out from the top. The room was functional if dated. The bed was springy - meaning I could feel springs in the mattress (which surprised me for a Hilton) but was fine. The carpet was a bit worn but again, fine. There was a small table with one chair and a desk/chair. The biggest problem was the bathroom. Almost impossible to use functionally! So small with zero storage for anything! My daughter & I had to leave our toiletry bags in the hall closet or table and go back and forth with them. The sink was so tiny that whenever you used it water splashed up onto the walls (and covered the outlet, yikes) One small hook for one towel so we hung others in the hall closet (left them on the floor when we checked out.) I'd rate it a 5-star review if the bathroom was upgraded & mattress replaced. At the very least squeeze a small shelving unit in-between the toilet & wall! We called it the "sad, sad, bathroom."
