Delta Hotels by Marriott Ottawa City Centre

We had Booking.com confirmation guaranteed by virtual debit card. When we came to check-in receptionist ultimately demanded physical credit card, something which in EU is becoming rather obsolete and to which other Canadian hotels we stayed on our vacation are well aware of, so they offer other ways to place security deposit.
This "high standards" hotel does not, and have such strict policies that at one point supervisor claimed that if anyhow overriden she will lose the job. I had physical debit card, but they were unsatisfied and said they cannot check us in "due to policies".
After almost 30 minutes supervisor came back and said they will make an exception and allow me pre-authorization. I had to put my physical debit card in the card machine which for some reason didn't read it (card and chip are OK, their machine isn't), so I entered number manually. But when she saw it, she rushed to push red button because "accounts department forbids it". She also said "no tap!", so contactless payment is not possible despite the machine has that option.
Nevertheless, my banking app showed I've been stripped off by 1,102,88 CAD despite her pushing red cancel button. She claimed that no payment has been processed which actually came out as true after few minutes when it was shown stricken in my app, but proves they can receive payment this way, but deliberately refuse.
While we were waiting for authorization form which I've submitted to pass through their system, she used another card machine to charge me more money claiming it's their policy to heavily charge safety deposit on debit cards, so I was stripped off 1,252.88 CAD and this transaction passed. I was really hoping we'll get the room, but after 15 minutes they refused for good because they claimed my home address mismatch my bank account address which isn't true. Finally, they returned second payment by contactless (!

Notre chambre était collée aux ascenseurs et nous entendions le bruit du mécanisme à chaque utilisation.
La salle de bain très petite. Le robinet du lavabo mal positionné rendant son utilisation chaotique. Le porte savon décollé du mur, la peinture au plafond qui est cloquée, la barre du rideau tordue avec une fixation bricolée avec une vis, le robinet de la baignoire décollé du mûr et branlant...
Peinture au plafond qui se décroche. Dans la chambre il y avait une note expliquant que l'hôtel était en cours de rénovation mais le prix lui n'était en phase avec la prestation et le standing annoncé (4 étoiles???).
De plus, nous avions une formule avec petit déjeuner inclus et lorsque j'ai vérifié mes comptes à mon retour de vacances, j'ai constaté qu'ils nous avaient été facturés. Le problème a été réglé rapidement et efficacement avec l'hôtel mais cela ajoute de l'insatisfaction générale à notre expérience.

La piscine était fermé 3 jours lors de notre séjour et nous ne l’avons su qu’à notre arrivé! Très décevant. On nous a proposé la piscine d’un hôtel à proximité… ce qui n’est pas évident le soir avec des enfants.

Je venais pour la piscine, gym et sauna pour relaxer en soirée et matin tôt et c'étsit fermé. Pour 396$ , avoir su , je serais allée ailleurs.

Very disappointing experience at Delta Ottawa. The reception process was extremely slow. Both receptionists were in training, and it took approximately 30 minutes to locate our reservation. There was very little communication throughout the process. They simply entered an amount on the payment machine and asked me to pay without explaining what the charge was for. The amount was $300 more than the price I booked through the Booking app.

My reservation clearly stated that breakfast was included, but I was told it was only included for two people, even though the reservation was for four. I became very upset and asked to speak with a manager. Nicholas came and helped resolve the situation. He politely explained the price breakdown, ensured that breakfast was included for all four of us as stated in the booking, and apologized for the confusion.

Unfortunately, the two receptionists were not professional and repeatedly told me that because I booked through a third party, I should contact them if I was unhappy and that the hotel could not help me. This was extremely frustrating.

Overall, I did not have a good experience. The hotel was very expensive and, in my opinion, not worth the price. The room was small and outdated, and the bathroom was tiny. I would not recommend this hotel for a family stay, and personally, I would not choose Delta Ottawa city centre again.
