If I ever get back to Messina the Royal Palace would be my home base. It had everything we needed.
Pros:

Everything about Hotel Royal was great. It was what you would expect of a high end European hotel. A large bathroom en suite but separated by a door from the sleeping area. Heavy room darkening drapes so you can sleep. Close to the bus, train and ferry. The staff….they were all welcoming, warm and friendly. They held our luggage so we were from to explore without hauling luggage with us. The shower—hot, really hot water for a full shower. It truly was a pleasant stay. 2 things.

Cons:

Hmmmm tough one. The disposable shower mat seemed unavailable so I had to use the guest towel.
The elevator began moaning while we were there. Starting up quite early and going into the night.
