I recently stayed at this hotel and had a mixed experience. The fire alarm went off twice during my stay—once in the late afternoon and again around 3 a.m.—which was disruptive and concerning. When I inquired with the front desk what was going on they stated the panel was malfunctioning and they needed a professional to shut it off. The bathroom also had visible mold, which made the room feel poorly maintained. On the positive side, the front desk employees were genuinely lovely: friendly, helpful, and welcoming throughout my stay. Their professionalism stood out, even though the overall conditions did not.
Loved this hotel! I did a girls trip this past week, and after searching several area hotels we decided on the Westmark. It’s perfectly central to everything in the downtown town area; walkable to so much like the Ice Museum, several great bars, the famous Crepey, a beautiful park, supermarkets, and not too far an Uber ride away from the university museum. I got a suite to share with a friend, and had a little kitchenette with a nice sized fridge and microwave. Perfect for leftovers the next day. The room was clean, comfortable, quiet, and plenty of hot water. Being Fairbanks, a lot of hotels seem to not have full on air conditioning, but our room had one, as well as a room fan. To help keep that 24 sun out of the room at night, the blackout curtains worked great. The staff was helpful and friendly, and it was perfectly budgeted. We also ate at their bar, The Happy Husky. Delicious! The hotel gift shop had plenty of tchotchkes and souvenirs, sunscreen, and the usual bits you may need last minute, and at affordable prices, considering it’s Alaska. Overall, this was the perfect hotel for location, price and accessibility to all that Fairba is offers.
The staff is professional and welcoming. I loved eating at the Happy Husky. Food was amazing, server was attentive. Location is great, walking distance to restaurants and town. Enjoyed my stay
Location is perfect right in downtown, easy to walk to any restaurant and grocery store is near by. The river walk is gorgeous walking to a brewery on the other side. Everyone in the staff is nice and friendly, super welcoming and there is free breakfast starting at 6am. The gift shops have great stuff to grab if you are in a bind that isn’t too pricy. There are water stations everywhere to fill up water.
Always enjoy my stay at this hotel! The service is excellent and the staff is always so kind and welcoming. Rooms are well maintained and spacious. Walking distance to so many things. Highly recommend!
Buyer beware. The owners are thieves. I booked at $281 per night. When I got here I asked him to verify the rate. He told me it was $450 a night. I said no what is the rate I booked at he said you booked at $450. I showed him the email with the matching confirmation number and he told me this has happened before he then went through a long drawn out process to change the rate back. The sheets are too small for the mattress and keep slipping off. The furniture in the lobby is old and disgusting. They turned the heater down in summer so you have to use a space heater. They don’t let you have the temperature you want. If you put it on full hot, it will be blowing cold air. Before you check in someone is going into the rate and changing it. Criminal charges should be brought against these crooks.
Great hotel in a convenient location, walking distance to shops and restaurants in town. Clean rooms, comfortable beds and a friendly and helpful staff. Recommend!
The hotel was clean and beds were comfortable. The room was cold. Tried switch on wall but that regulated air conditioning not heat , and it blew cold air so turned it off. First morning shower was cold , second day it was luke warm . Pricey breakfast buffet $25 a person. Would have been nice to just have coffee for free. Had to buy in gift shop
I’m not even sure where to begin. We stayed here as part of the Holland America Land portion of the cruise tour. To say Holland America did us dirty was an understatement.
I will begin with a positive, the beds were comfortable. Unfortunately, that is where the positives end. The hotel is in dire need of an update. The bathroom is functional but barely. The HVAC system could not make up its mind and kept turning on and off randomly often cycling after a second or two. The room smelled old and musty, and the walls were dingy and in some cases (bathroom by the sink) dirty with something spattered on them. I will say that other than that issue, the space was as clean as I think it could be given the age and disrepair. The hotel front desk staff were good to me personally but heard them being rude to other guests and then having conversations about guests after they walked away. I commented honestly on my feedback form that they leave in the room, because constructive criticism can help if they are looking to improve. Unfortunately I do not think there is any desire to improve. I handed it to the desk directly because there was no anonymity in it, within 3 minutes of walking away and sitting in the lobby I heard them loudly making comments on my feedback. All around just lack of customer service etiquette and professionalism.
Do not eat at the Northern Latitudes restaurant within the hotel. Not only was the breakfast buffet disgusting and expensive, the staff were incredibly rude. Overall, I can see that this space would have potential because of the space, but damn Holland, find somewhere else for your guests who paid a lot of money for this trip to stay until it meets some minimum standards.
The Holland staff that were there were helpful and professional.
The helpful and friendly staff.
I wished the motel had an airport shuttle and that they had complementary coffee available to guest in the lobby area.
Location
Price! Seemed high for quality.
The bed was comfortable
Dirty, spiders in our bathtub, curtains, torn. And overall the hotel was very dirty.
Housekeeping knocked on our door at 8 am
Regular hotel nothing good nothing bad.
The toilet flush was extremely noisy. It sounded like a washroom in an airplane
Location
The staff. Rude
The manager went out of his way to help accommodate my requests. The staff was friendly despite the hectic crowds.
Would highly recommend
Hotel was clean and staff was amazingly friendly and accommodating with any and all requests.
