I rarely leave negative reviews, but in a hotel in this price range, it is simply unacceptable for the rooms to smell like sewage, for the receptionist to be unfriendly, and for the staff to be unwilling to accommodate guests in any way.
If you’re considering this hotel because of the pool, I would recommend skipping it. The photos are misleading—the pool is only slightly larger than a bathtub.
The breakfast, however, is truly excellent.
Nothing
The staff, value for money, customer care, extras
The pool , the lunches, the beautiful building, art were amazing
Location is only minutes away from the sea
Shopping around the area is fantastic
Good beaches and seafood restaurants
Expensive
I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience has been extremely disappointing, especially for a hotel that claims to be a 5-star luxury property.
From the first day, I encountered several serious issues: the room telephone was not working, the shower floor was damaged and unsafe, and there was a strong sewage smell coming from the bathroom drain during use.
I booked and paid for accommodation for 3 guests and paid a deposit for each person . Despite being assured twice that the extra bed would be provided, I was later informed that the hotel had no extra beds available. When I requested a duvet or proper bedding solution, I was given towels instead, which is simply unacceptable for a hotel of this category.
What made the situation even more frustrating was the lack of responsiveness. Every time I needed assistance, I had to go down to the reception desk in person because the room phone was not working and requests were not being followed up properly.
It also became apparent that the hotel is understaffed. I was informed that requests were delayed due to a lack of staff, and at one point the reception employee appeared to be handling housekeeping-related tasks as well. This raises serious concerns about service standards and operational management in a property advertised as a luxury 5-star hotel.
The issue is not only the maintenance problems but also the overall level of service. Guests paying premium rates should not have to repeatedly chase basic requests or be told that essential items are unavailable.
In my opinion, this property does not currently meet the standards expected of a true 5-star hotel and should be reassessed accordingly. The location may be excellent, but the quality of service, staffing, maintenance, and guest experience falls far below what is advertised.
Very disappointing experience, especially considering the price paid and the expectations associated with a 5-star hotel.
Black out shutters. Large room and great staff.
Breakfast buffet was a bit disappointing. More limited than we are accustomed to. Avocado toast did not have sliced Avocado...thin mushy spread. Poached eggs were rubbery and tasted like vinegar.
My husband and I spent 3 nights at the Boscolo as part of a Viking company pre-cruise package, and at first we were impressed by the facade and interior decor. The historic hotel has been remodeled in recent years and is very white and bright inside. The location is not central to the city, and it requires quite a walk to get to the beach or the Old Town area. The hotel does have multiple restaurants and shops close by in the neighborhood, so that was helpful.
Desk staff were always friendly but struggled with English, and we don't speak French. The room we were assigned, however, had multiple problems. It was located in the interior of the hotel structure, just above a court yard, which did help minimize city street noise. However, the room was very very tiny, with only the king bed, tiny closet, a small desk, a tv, a small fridge, an instant coffee maker, an ottoman, and no chair. The bathroom consisted of a tiny sink with almost no counter that was in the room, and a toilet and bidet in a separate space with a noisy glass door that didn't close completely and was right by the bed. We struggled to find a place to put our luggage. I didn't expect a huge room, being in Europe, but this one was really small with barely room to move around. However, the bigger issues were with the tiled shower stall that stunk with an ammonia smell (we kept the door shut) and multiple maintenance issues, including a loose door jam that prevented the lock from fully engaging, a burned out light bulb, and things attached to the room and shower walls that were close to falling off. There were also some missing tiles in the toilet stall area.
I went to the front desk to ask that the door jam be fixed, and they couldn't understand what I was trying to tell them, but sent a maintenance man to the room. I had to point to the door frame, and then he understood and came back with a screw driver to try and fix it. We were concerned that the lock could be easily forced if someone wanted to get in. I would have mentioned the other issues that needed fixing but due to communication issues, let it go.
I will say that the bed was comfortable with a duvet (no blanket or top sheet which is common in Europe). We also enjoyed sitting in the quiet interior courtyard, although some of the plants in pots were dead and it's also a place for smokers to go, and we enjoyed the view from the restaurant on top of the hotel over the city. Food there was good.
The breakfast buffet in their restaurant was included in our Viking package, and there was a wide variety of tasty hot and cold foods, which was great, but due to other larger tour groups staying in the hotel, sometimes when we arrived most of the tables were full and much of the food was gone. We stood around not knowing what to do.
Restaurant staff were obviously overwhelmed and couldn't keep up.
We talked with another couple in our tour Viking tour group, and apparently their room was much larger than ours, but faced a very noisy street that kept them awake.
If ever in Nice again, we would not stay at this overpriced, supposedly 5-star hotel, which only gets a 3 star rating from me.
I can not recommend this hotel.
The hotel is beautiful and in a great location. The spa is amazing, it’s got a great indoor pool, sauna and steam room. It’s very comfortable and the staff are friendly
The roof top pool was dirty when we stayed which was really disappointed. We took my 7 month old son which I was looking forward to spending time with in the pool but after the first use we didn’t go again. There were dead flies and insects floating in there. This could have been easily resolved if they cleaned the pool each morning before guests used it. That’s not what I expected from a 5 star hotel. We found the food expensive for the quality of it.
Booked this hotel as a special treat for a milestone birthday and left within 20 minutes of arrival. The room is one not advertised and fell well below the standard expected at this price point, including NO WINDOW and the shower directly opposite the bed covered by a curtain. When we raised concerns, the alternative room offered was no better. The hotel was loud, rooms tired, dirty and outdated. My husband's company has even tried to unsuccessfully sell this hotel because of its tired state.
When we pursued a refund albeit, happy to forgo the cost of one night, we were told to speak with Booking.com who then told us all the power was with the hotel. The hotel's written response contained inaccuracies I have had to formally dispute, including references to complaints we never made and events that did not happen . Their position that a non-refundable rate absolves them of providing a basic standard of service is not only poor customer care, it is questionable under consumer law.
Save your money and your special occasions for somewhere else.
Location, staff friendliness, great breakfast and indoor pool, restaurant
Pool opening hour could be 7AM not 9 AM
Hotel is old and outdated. Staff are nice. If you want a five star stay avoid this hotel at all costs. Not even a window in our ‘upgraded room’.
