The room looked like it had been refurbished. Much lighter & brighter, better fitting furniture & a soft carpet.
The food is exceptional for dinner & breakfast is now offering fresh fruit which is fantastic.
The staff as ever, are helpful & friendly.
Location is perfect for town or beach.
Shower was leaking out a little onto floor. Not a massive issue, we just used a towel to help.
Not too keen on the daily texts, a little repetitive.
Breakfast was good
Our bed was like sleeping on a board, the hotel sent us a message in the morning asking how we slept and I told them not very good, they immediately asked if we wanted a topper and this was put on straight away
We had a lovely and relaxing deep tissue massage at the Spa of the Best Western Connaught Hotel yesterday. The facilities are relaxing and the staff very nice and experienced. Lisa and Galina looked after us so well and it was the highlight of our stay. Thank you very much, ladies.
If you’re looking for a hotel with a generous helping of nostalgia, you’ve come to the right place.
The corridors are so narrow you’ll perfect your sideways shuffle, the lift is tiny enough to turn every journey into a social event, and each morning you’ll be navigating piles of laundry left in the hallways as an added obstacle course. The threadbare carpets have clearly welcomed more guests than the reception desk, and the particularly bizarre fake bookshelves scattered around the hotel add an unexpectedly surreal touch to the décor. The air conditioning rattles away all night like it’s making one final heroic effort before retirement. The bathrooms are a wonderful blast from the past too, complete with shower curtains and tiles that wouldn’t look out of place in an old public restroom.
The pool itself is fine, although it seems to collect rather a lot of water around the edges. The changing rooms continue the retro theme—think “municipal swimming baths” rather than “luxury spa”—and could definitely have been cleaner.
The food was perfectly acceptable, but the service varied wildly between pleasant and openly hostile. Several members of staff looked as though the very existence of guests was an unexpected inconvenience.
Breakfast featured one of the worst hotel coffees I’ve encountered—and that’s saying something, because expectations for hotel coffee are never especially high. It never ceases to amaze me how a machine containing what appears to be coffee beans, electricity, water and presumably milk can consistently produce such spectacularly dreadful morning gloop.
If you’re a gin drinker, you’ll probably be delighted. If you fancy almost anything else, lower your expectations. A simple martini? Apparently that’s asking far too much. The drinks selection was surprisingly limited for a hotel claiming four stars.
The location isn’t bad, but the advertised 500 metres to the beach must have been measured by a particularly optimistic seagull. Once you factor in the sizeable cliff between the hotel and the seafront, it’s more like a pleasant half-hour walk.
Calling this a four-star hotel is, in my opinion, rather ambitious. In truth, it feels much closer to a half hearted 3 star hotel that somehow acquired an extra star along the way.
We enjoyed our holiday, but that was despite the hotel rather than because of it.
Looks nice from outside, nice spa area, nice if small balcony room, large restaurant and plenty communal sitting areas and outdoor sitting. Also liked the location
Bathroom not up to standard, more like budget hotel. Also plumbing issues in the wash basin with strongly burping, splashing out water. Some common areas in need of refurbishment. Lots of creaky/clunky noises at night
Fantastic location, right near the beach , friendly staff , lovely breakfast, nice garden
Staff were really good 😇
We had another wonderful stay at Connaught to celebrate my 60th Birthday. We had room 15 which is my new favourite. We had afternoon tea, breakfast and a two course lunch in the restaurant. All three were excellent. The staff were wonderful and we had a lovely relaxing stay. Just what we needed.
Great location , nice feel overall
Room a bit small.
Tomas was absolutely exceptional! Tomas made my visit to The Connaught Hotel extra special, unforgettable and magical.
Thank you Sir!
