Red Lion Hotel Portland Airport

Had to get parking validated every time we left and came back, but that’s ok cause we had to get new room keys every time also because they would become unusable. But no worries you didn’t need them to get in the building because all the smokers keep the doors propped open.

Unfriendly staff, extremely loud doors to the hallways where the rooms are, and they don't take online-only bank cards

Door key do not work. They have old system. Had to get new keys very inconvenient 4 times!

Didn't understand the process of entering the gate by car and the use of the ticketing machine on leaving. The clerk at the desk explained that the ticket machine is not owned by the hotel, but that it serves all 3 hotels at this location. There is no charge for guests. Each time you enter the gate, a ticket is dispensed. Each time that you leave, get your ticket validated at the front desk and insert it into the machine upon leaving the premises. If the ticket is rejected or the machine requests a $10 credit card fee, simply insert your validated ticket a second time and the gate will lift up. So very easy and not frustrating when you are told the process, as the clerk at the Red Lion was kind enough to patiently inform us!

The hotels location makes it difficult to use public transportation as the closest MAX stop is nearly a mile away and there are no bus routes going by the hotel. Also there is no breakfast and the only other thing that the hotel has is a fitness center which is decent but could use an update with the equipment. Because of these things, this hotel is best suited for an overnight airport stay before catching a flight in the morning and the shuttle service is excellent.
