Carlisle Station Hotel, Sure Hotel Collection by BW

The hotel is 10 metres from the train station's main entrance with everything that that implies: cars letting off and picking up travellers and people coming and going day and night. We specifically ordered a twin room but when we arrived at 18:00 hours, they hadn't got one available. The room was very dated and not clean at all. I looked behind the bedside table looking for a plug to charge my phone and found crumbs and make-up sponges dropped by previous guests. The windows were very old with a sliding inner window. The bathroom was large, empty and outdated. No mixer tap in the wash basin and porcelain from the 1980's. The bath was narrow and quite dangerous to get into and out of.

There were limited choices for breakfast if you are gluten-free and lactose-free.

maybe the décor is a bit dated and needed a freshen up but it really wasn't an issue.

The window frames require attention and the bathroom is dated but it was clean and good for a three star. The lift was very small.

Being woken up by train station announcements from 6am onwards. The ridiculous noisy seagulls. The warm room was unpleasant.

Absolutely nothing

Wash basin hot water, almost scalding.
Shower too low to use while standing, unable to adjust height.
Shower water temperature fluctuated several times from cold to VERY hot while in use.
Mismatched toilet seat- wobbly.

It’s a tad run down. Bathroom could do with an update, walls could do with a paint as very scuffed in places. Cleanliness was passable but again it could just do with the extra touch up. I would stay here again, it’s not that bad….yet.

Really disappointing and not at all what we expected from a BW property. The most important thing to know is that guests should under no circumstances stay in the designated car park. We paid £12 for the privilege, but when we were boxed in by an illegally parked car and unable to leave the morning of checking out, hotel staff told us that they had no way of knowing who the car belonged to and were completely unwilling to tow it. They said they were worried about liability if they towed a car - apparently their liability to us, having trapped our car there against our will, was not a concern to them. While we eventually made it out, their unwillingness to help get the obstructing car out of the way was completely unacceptable. Unfortunately our troubles were not just in the car park. The hotel is located next to a night club that closes at 2am, and little effort seems to have been made to soundproof. Finally, the hot water took so long to heat up that we were certain it wasn't working. While we've stayed in plenty of older hotels with heating that took 30 seconds to a minute or so to warm up, this was the first time that I had to wait more than 5 minutes (I timed it) for a barely-tepid shower. Again, staff were ultimately unhelpful, only saying that not all hotels have instant hot water. Overall, the most frustrating experience I've ever had a hotel.

The shower in the bathroom wasn't always hot, the temperatures kept fluctuating between lukewarm-ish cold and warm, not a massive ordeal for me. Some small stains found on desks and the bin wasn't cleared out from the last guest(s).
