With its Victorian architecture and fresh approach to hospitality, Kimpton Clocktower Hotel is the perfect expression of its setting: Manchester, a city where tradition and modernity meet and where artisanship reigns supreme. Housed in a magnificent terracotta Grade II–listed building, Kimpton Clocktower has a history that dates back to 1890, when the building first opened as The Refuge Assurance Company headquarters. Today, it’s a destination where glamor and luxury meets one-of-a-kind craftsmanship—and where there are new things to discover at every turn.

Absolutely fantastic
Definitely staying again
Loved how big it was , some were rude but mostly good. Room was comfortble , but very tired and unable to open windows as painted shut! And had secondry glazing . Bed and pillows were very comfy , breakfast was very good .
Because of ongoing work on outside of listed building it was hard to see full look of building .But understand upgrade .
How they have modernised but kept the original features
Nothing
Very nice staff and facilities
Very very noisy room on the third floor.
Beautiful room, lobby and bar. A free drink at the bar. Great value for money and the breakfast was excellent!
Nothing it is a shame it doesn’t have a pool or spa, but other than that, it was wonderful.
Beautiful
Everything!
Friendly staff, clean and breakfast
Location, cleanliness, staff, food
I liked everything
The building is beautiful, it’s like being in an historical school or something, really lovely styling. The rooms were comfortable and spacious, lovely and light and the air con was a god send in the heatwave! Comfy beds, delicious breakfast.
Whilst the food at breakfast was delicious, the staff and service was appalling. Three different staff members were incredibly rude - including one lady who we actually tried to complain to about her colleague! Asking for a cup for the pot of tea or a glass for some water seemed like way too much trouble - we got heavy sighs, eye rolls and a seriously bad attitude - so some proper customer service training is definitely needed. Everyone else at the hotel was great but the Refuge Bar & Restaurant staff were awful. Very disappointing.
It’s an amazing property. Loved the old building and great location. Loved that we received a text message contact once checked in and were offered complimentary drinks and nibbles.
Had a small incident but washed over without apology which was a shame as I do plan to return to Manchester a lot in the next few years. The room hairdryer didn’t work. Used the text message service but no response. Phoned reception and they said they would bring one up but they didn’t. The next morning I chatted with reception and they could not see any record of this. They offered to send one up but again didn’t bother. Such a shame as felt like some of those little details that make a stay great were missing.
Stunning property
Nothing
Food at the hotel, both dinner at The Refuge and breakfast was fantastic. Lots of choice of interesting and tasty dishes in an amazing location. The hotel is stunning with beautiful Victorian detailing throughout. Receptionist was incredibly friendly and helpful.
Room 366. Air conditioning in room kept turning itself off every few hours and when in use was very noisy especially as we had to use it overnight (we stayed there during Met Office red alert heat wave). Room windows were mouldy, as were the curtains. There were no curtains or blind in the bathroom so light streamed in from the corridor overnight. Unfortunately we had requested a twin room for my daughter and I and were given a double bed which was not satisfactory.
Wow - what an incredible hotel room for an absolutely bargain. Beautiful 20ft ceilings, wood panelling, two giant armchairs, twin double beds, best shower I've ever used, complimentary Tunnocks and tea....
Staff so helpful and other people stating there were lovey and civilised - no stage do/hen-do late night noise int he hotel.
Giving this hotel 10/10 and would definitely stay agin and recommend to you.
Hotel foyer and hotel room (we were in) were like stating in Glasgow train station. The level of grandiosity was unbelievable, must cost a fortune to maintain the building.
Just so you know I am not an employee writing a fake-positive review):
1 Dust: the net curtains and curtains were dusty. The room was clean but maybe with windows sealed a lot of dust seemed to have accumulated, unvacuumed. If you're an asthma sufferer, bear in mind. Beds, bathroom and towels very clean tho!
2. Noise. Unsurprisingly, the external street noice was continuous throughout the night. Sound of trains was good though, even in the early hours.
Everything! Staff were lovely and accommodating and the facilities were lush.
No complaints here :)
Very unusual hotel. Such a beautiful building. Room was a lovely size. Beds and bedding were really comfortable. Shower was amazing - lots of toiletries. Tea and coffee in the room. Staff really friendly. Parked in the Oxford Road NCP - really close and good value at £20 (should be £30) Couldn’t have asked for more.
Nothing to not like!
