Great location - clean
The nozzle on shower fell off so like using a garden hose
Large quiet rooms, very clean, all the amenities and located close to town
The hotel has had a recent renovation and it looks much better for it. Our room was warm and comfortable. The bed was especially comfortable. The location is right in the centre of Mawhera, Greymouth, easy to get anywhere on foot. The only negative was the street cleaner outside making a racket in the early hours.
There are some small touches missed during the renovation like the bathroom windowsills could do with sanding and painting. The roof panelling has gaps - perfect - if you can't hide the gap make it large but one small panel had a narrow gap - wrong.
The convenience from the TranzAlpine Train station was perfect. Walking down the one street took 10 minutes and getting a taxi back, after having heavier luggage was $2.
We had a room on the top floor, chose a room with a river view. It was perfect! We had a small balcony, was great for photos and having a cuppa while looking at the township, River and sea; (the balcony was shared with one other room, didnt matter to us, just lock your door when you go back in).
The room was very spacious, the shower had excellent pressure and the bed was very comfortable. We played games at the table by the balcony, watching the sun go down was special.
Our breakfast was good, had hot options of eggs, hash browns, bacon, mushrooms, and sausages. There was fruit salad, cereals, milk, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, as well as bread/toast.
Very happy, would definitely return there, one day.
Staff were friendly and held our bags safely while we walked around before returning on the train back to Christchurch.

Good location to the train station.
Despite having pre booked the room, the heating wasn’t turned on, the fridge wasn’t working. To use the room safe you had to get on your knees on the floor and then it didn’t work. The toiletries in the bathroom were totally in the wrong order and a cheap black bucket in the bathroom corner does not constitute a bathroom bin.
Everything was good was nice being in a corner room where views were good

A little dated , the veranda didn't look safe and paint was peeling off. Staff accommodating to give us a late check out.
