Poor customer service, unfriendly front staff, mildew smelling hallways, flying insects in the bathroom. Worst is that they tried to downgrade my already confirmed suite room.
Fabulous hotel. Great meeting facilities. Beautiful surroundings. Staff was always helpful. Was with the annual meeting of the National Academy of Arbitrators.
We had booked 3 nights and prepaid to stay this week. We were supposed to arrive at 9:30 pm on Monday night but due to storms, our flight was significantly delayed and we arrived to check in Tuesday morning at 6 am. We had been up all day and night and extremely exhausted only to be told they had given our pre paid rooms away the prior evening because we hadn’t called and notified them that we were delayed. My husband and I were both shocked and appalled when told we’d have to wait till at least noon for a room. We had to be at our meeting at noon so that wasn’t going to work for us. The staff member was completely quiet and made no apologies at all. We were just stunned honestly at the lack of care. We ended up sitting in the lobby trying to regroup and figure out what we needed to do to get a few hours of sleep prior to our meeting. After about 45 mins, he approached us and said he’d found us a room after all. Pretty appalling experience and the room ended up being shabby and tired. The bed and sleep was amazing though. Really unfortunate, we will never book there again. No one, staff or manager ever approached us with an apology or with any courtesy. Pretty much avoided us as much as they could. Avoid at all costs in my opinion. Way better options in the area.
We had a lovely room on the 28th floor with 270 degree views of the city. Everything was comfortable Lots of windows! The downstairs is kind of a maze on several floors, so it was hard to get where I wanted to go among the meeting rooms, but the meeting rooms were very nice. AND the meals at the conference were excellent, which is a rarity with hotels. Great location, too! Overall, a very good experience
My room (No. 1269) was very uncomfortable. It had no desk and no desk chair. It was difficult to work on my laptop in that room. The desk consisted of a narrow ledge, and the seating was a small ottoman. The water pressure was weak, and the coffee set-up was just some poor coffee and powdered milk. How much extra would it cost to use the small cups of cream? Intercontinental should be ashamed to sell this room to a member of your frequent traveler club.
Check in was smooth, Room was nice, Staff esp doormen were excellent, very helpful.
Everything from check in to check out was top quality. Staff was amazingly attentive and proactively met our needs. The property was beautiful, our room was immaculately clean and luxurious. Shower water pressure was perfect. Bedding was plush and comfortable. I did not have the opportunity to have breakfast but family who did had a great experience. My son enjoyed spending time relaxing in the pool. When I first booked I felt the price was a little steep, but changed my mind after check in. Worth every penny for the all-star service and accommodations
Literally zero complaints
This was my first time staying in Intercontinental Chicago and I am bringing my family.
I used my ambassador free weekend certificate. Overall satisfied with the stay.
Of note, I am also a Globalist so this review will
have some comparison info.
Welcome greetings- similar to Hyatt Globalist they acknowledge status and loyalty which was great. then they gave me the benefits of the stay and gave me 4 bottles of water.
Benefits explained- they asked me which welcome amenity I wanted and I chose the breakfast voucher. (compared to Hyatt, it is similar but breakfast is for 4 people).
Room upgrade benefit- upgraded to corner room with city view. Room was comfortable with enough space for a rolling bed if I wanted to add that. This was the guaranteed upgrade. (similar to Globalist). Had an issue with the shower but they fixed it immediately.
Communication- they communicate well via text and are responsive. (similar to Globalist)
Parking- expensive but we were at downtown chicago so I expected it. Had in and out privileges. (Unlike Globalist, if you made point reservations this can be free but for IHG, no such thing. ) Valet was readily available.
Dining- We didn’t dine in Michael Jordan’s or their other restaurant because there are other restaurants around that you can choose from
but these are convenient restaurants to go to if you don’t want to go out. Breakfast options included in the voucher can be alacarte or buffet but only for 2 guests.
Location- easy access to public transportation or just walking to tourist spots.
Late check-out benefit- 4pm, similar to Globalist
Pool- this is one of my favorite features. Big indoor heated pool. Love this!
Overall- I would stay here again. I wasn’t able to
do the hotel walking tour because we were just there for a weekend but I will do that next time!!!
Perfect location, great security, clean room. Will, the doorman, created a welcoming, positive environment each day. Value is overpriced, but consistent with neighboring hotels. Expect ambulance sirens every 5-15 minutes but was quiet from 1-6 AM
Great location. Executive tower rooms not fancy small bathrooms. Great staff
The check-in process was efficient and friendly. The location can’t be beat. The room was clean and comfortable. Would recommend.
A grand hotel along Chicago's Magnificent Mile within easy reach of the city's main attractions. The hotel is housed in a historic building with an impressive lobby and distinctive architecture. The rooms are comfortable and spacious, though sirens at night, even on the upper floors, caused mild disturbance. The highlight is the tiled Junior Olympic-sized pool in the fitness centre. Overall, a great base for exploring Chicago.
My organization, the AGA, always books us at the Intercontinental. In previous years they covered my stay, but this year I was on my own. i still elected to stay at the IC because it represents a "Classic Chicago Hotel" with a perfect location and all the amenities you expect from a venue like this. Check-in and check-out were easy. The room was spacious with a real minibar. I totally enjoyed my visit.
Great stay! Clean hotel. Very friendly, courteous and helpful staff. Nice, comfortable accommodations. Wonderful location within minutes of all the downtown sights. I have no complaints.
Mattress was far too soft and I got up every morning with back pain
Excellent convention class hotel. I have stayed here mulitple times before. Good sized room and currently up. to date features
