Great start to our day
Location was good, close to the city centre and good spread for breakfast.
The furniture was very old and you could even see signs of it being gnawed at. Not what you would expect in 2026.

Good breakfast. Location is very central, just by Exeter Cathedral with easy access to Quays
The staff were all very helpful from the reception staff to bar staff and staff who serviced the room.

The lift was not working from the 2nd floor to 3rd floor. this was an issue as my wife has issues with breathing.
There was a notice in the lift that said the pool was £10. We asked art the reception and were told that it was incorrect and that the pool was free.
My only complaint at breakfast was that on both mornings the plate warmers were not on and the plates were cold, this then made the cooked breakfast cold very quickly.

Air conditioning not working in rooms.
Location
There was no air con working & guests were not happy as it was so hot & no-one had been informed that the aircon wasn't working before we arrived. Apparently it hadn't been working for 3 weeks! I was sharing a twin room with a friend. The windows only opened slightly and the one small fan they gave us wasn't enough so had to ask for another. There were several guests not happy the next morning. I sent Mercure an email about this the next day but no reply.
