We had a great stay at the Craftsman Inn. The room was lovely and very clean, the staff was pleasant. It's also a great location, across the street from a Town Center and minutes away from Green Lakes State Park. Complementary breakfast was a plus!
Would definitely stay there again and recommend it to others.
Having stayed at the Craftsman Inn several times in the past, this stay was extremely disappointing, to say the least !
Being placed on the first floor was not an issue, but the two dogs, left unattended, and barking every time someone passed by, was unacceptable. People can fly the "SERVICE DOG" flag, but it's gone too far and is abused and is out of hand. A service dog, #1, should accompany the handler being serviced, not left alone. #2, a true service dog is trained to be quiet, even if left alone for a short time. These animals were clearly just family dogs tagging along, ruining all surrounding guests stay, while the owner was out enjoying themselves.
After repeated calls, the front desk assured us that the owner was contacted and was returning, from where, who knows. After hours, we requested and were given a room change.
We have stayed here many many times. When they first took over, it was lovely and then it went downhill a bit and now it lovely again. The beds are extremely comfortable and the staff is very friendly. I find the breakfast just adequate, but that’s no different than any ofthese motels that serve breakfast. The location is perfect for us as we have family in the area.
DO NOT STAY HERE.
We have stayed here many times over the years as it is a convenient stop on our regular trips between Ohio and New Hampshire but will never stay here again.
We recently had a reservation for Thursday evening for a suite for three people. We called ahead to inform them we would be arriving after midnight and could only get an AI bot despite requesting to be connected to a human being. However the AI did take our name and information, repeatedly assured us that arriving late was not an issue, and left a note in the system for the front desk.
When we arrived however, our room had been given away. We were told by Lulu (the woman working the front desk overnight)that they assumed it was one person and so moved us to a room with one bed despite our reservation saying it was for three people and us having a confirmed booking for a suite. This alone would be unacceptable, especially given that we had called to confirm the late arrival, but what made this so much worse is how rude and dismissive Lulu was. We understand that mistakes happen, but she showed zero desire to attempt to problem solve or offer any kind of resolution. Moreover, even just being kind about it would have likely been enough but instead she was incredibly rude and kept saying “there’s nothing I can do”. It was clear that the person who worked the shift before her had screwed up and she was pissed that she had to deal with it.
I understand working the overnight shift at a mid-level hotel in suburban Syracuse is not a dream job, but one shouldn’t work the front desk at a hotel if they have zero interest in being helpful or considerate to customers.
We had noticed the quality going down here over the past several visits (rooms are starting to look very beat up, cleanliness slipping, staff doesn’t want to be there) but had continued to stay for the convenience along our regular route and the ability to bring the dog. We will certainly never be back. Reading through the reviews now it seems they have an issue with giving away people’s confirmed rooms so that alone should make you very weary of booking here.
This is clearly a place that does not care about customer service and is cutting every possible corner. Given that, you are much better off staying at a major chain hotel where you will at least have access to more reliable customer service in the face of an issue and the ability to earn loyalty points. Would love to see this place under new ownership that actually wants to run a decent hotel as it is certainly needed in the area but this is not it!
Reservation process was flawless, the room matched our expectations, the staff folks were genuinely concerned about our enjoyment during the stay, and the Craftsman Inn was a perfect focal point for our activities.
We had a great stay at the Craftsman Inn! We went with our kids and everyone enjoyed the stay. The front desk staff was very helpful and EXTRA big shoutout to the special lady who helped with breakfast! It was my daughter’s 4th birthday the first morning we got breakfast there and she made her feel so extra special! We enjoyed her the next morning too and she was very helpful with breakfast and making us feel so welcome. There were other guests here that were so enjoyable and welcoming as well!
Everything
Nothing
I’ve stayed in the Craftsman twice, both for family activities in the area. Both times I had the same type of experience, so I can only think it is rather routine. Both times I was awakened by thuds above us and noisy people who I assume are drunk. I can’t assume they are from your establishment, but regardless, it did put a damper on my feelings toward your establishment. Both times I stayed, I was turned off by your breakfast area. It is too small for the size of your hotel, and both times I felt it was an unhealthy place to eat. This weekend, the preparation/utility room adjacent to the food area was open and the view inside did not give me confidence in the cleanliness of the food station. In the food area itself, a big piece of cellophane wrapping from a food product lay on the counter by the bagel area. I saw an elderly patron handle most of the muffins with his hands as he tried to find the one he wanted. No tongs, no gloves, just his bare hands. I did report this to the front desk and they replaced the muffins. I can only think this goes on all the time. For the price of a room, I would expect better.
To end on a positive note, I did enjoy sitting in the lounge/bar area with family and enjoyed your appetizers of soft pretzel and cauliflower. Your staff was very nice as well.
Nothing
The room was filthy. The bathroom floor was filthy. The whole place was dirty.
Good location.
Breakfast was not great.
Good place, would go again, a few minor things to work on (shower caulk, stronger coffee), but lots of good points- amazing bed, nice breakfast and breakfast staff, on site restaurant.
Stylish, room newly renovated and very clean
Breakfast is included but the staff member working the breakfast shift was extremely rude and unhelpful. Might have just had a bad day, who knows
Where do I start. If you’re looking for an homey older vibe place with modern amenities and a high end feel, you found the place. Just the entrance alone with wooden welcoming rocking chairs set the vibe immediately. There is a small front desk with staff that is superior in customer service that starts off your stay in the perfect way. A very cute homey feel lobby that seconds as the complementary breakfast area with charm and center pieces you wish you could take home and put in your garden. You may even pick up these not real but real looking planters to see if you yourself could purchase a couple like I did. Then the room itself, we had a small suite which wasn’t small. I first emailed the hotel before booking to make sure they accept large dogs. Most hotels have a weight limit and on this occasion we travelled with our 90 lb baby. The room
had great space for the 3 of us. It had a very clean feel and smell to it. The bed was comfortable and the bedding was a crisp white insuring it was perfectly clean. The bathroom was normal size bathroom with updated shower doors and fixtures making it appear modern but still welcoming. The Lockwood shampoo, conditioner, washes and lotions were luxury. If I could find one complaint and I mean try, it would be the coffee. Too weak for our liking but that is easily fixed by bringing your own k-cup if you’re picky with your coffee like us. We used this hotel as the perfect location to spend the days at Green Lakes State Park. Our family members booked a cabin in the park and we were visiting them and the beautiful park for a few days. This was a quick, easy, peaceful 10 to 15 min drive away. We left the hotel early morning and arrived back late at night with no issues. We will be staying here again and again in the future.
Really cute hotel, very comfortable room set up and bed. Great location- some shopping and restaurants within walking distance. Easy drive to sights and to Syracuse. Beautiful area overall.
No cleaning service- for the price we are paying seems this should be offered. And cleaning between guests could be better- my floor in bathroom felt sticky and there was blueberry muffin crumbs stuck in one of my bath towels. Just feel like there is not an attention to detail.
This looked just like the photos. It had more character than a lot of hotels where you would stay in a strip mall/suburban type of location. It had a restaurant next door with a great vibe. That was super convenient.
Coffee was bad. The breakfast was really clean and nice with a lot of choices. Typical of this type of hotel
