Excellent Hotel
Pros:

Comfortable bed.
Attractive room decor (thankfully it's not one of those hotels trying too hard to be hip!).
Good breakfast. Servers Bobby & Richie were beyond friendly and helpful. They made the breakfast experience!

Cons:

How sad that a beautiful city of friendly people, great food, and fun boutiques is ruined by all the roaming mentally ill, homeless, and addicts. It felt very unsafe, and there's no way I'd go out at night. Sadly, I would never come back.

Magical Wedding
Pros:

The Benson Hotel is a beautiful venue for weddings. The ornate architecture, the amazing staff and ease of having an event there, exceeded all our expectations. The cost is very reasonable to rent the venue, and they include many things with that rental. Including complementary penthouse suite for the wedding night. We can’t rave enough, about our magical wedding weekend spent there.

Classic Charm with a modern vibe
Pros:

The Benson is my "go to"Hotel when visiting Portland. The downtown location makes everything convenient with particularly easy access to the Pearl District and the Pioneer Square area. Its timeless class and modern amenities make for a great blend of style and comfort. The staff is very helpful and Catriona on the front desk was terrific in managing an accommodation request. The Wednesday Jazz happy hour is a great thing... don't miss it!

Don't miss the Benson Hotel in Portland"!
Pros:

We had the very pleasant opportunity to spend a couple of nights this month at the Benson Hotel in Portland, OR. We did a lot of fun things in those two days like the Portland Rose Garden and the Japanese Garden, but our most talked about memory is of the hotel itself and its staff. Katheryn, Bobby and others made is not just feel welcome, but were obviously very proud of the hotel, its history, and all the folks who have stayed there over the many decades. We are looking forward to returning to the Benson and learning even more of its elegant history. Larry & Linda

Fabulous place to stay.
Pros:

This was my second time staying at the Benson Hotel. Two years ago I stayed for my granddaughters graduation. This time for her wedding. My experience can only be rated A+.
The room service for a couple of meals was excellent n very tasty.
Highly recommend the Benson.

Highly Recommend The Benson Portland
Pros:

I had a fabulous stay at The Benson Portland! The staff was friendly and helpful, the rooms were comfortable and clean, and the food and service at The Honorable Mention sports bar/speak easy was exceptional! Sit at the bar and ask for Justin...he will craft you a delicious cocktail. Oh, and don't forget to order the burger :)

Beautiful Hotel with Great Staff
Pros:

We had a good three night stay, and enjoyed ourselves as always. This is our fourth visit, and there’s so much to appreciate. In the past I gave The Benson five stars without hesitation. It could have been the luck of the draw, but this time our room wasn’t very comfortable. The corner room’s couch was the most uncomfortable sofa I’ve ever sat on. The hip to knee length was very narrow, and it was exceedingly hard. Same with the chair. It doesn’t make sense to buy furniture where people can’t relax. Also, the water took forever to heat up. We found out that you must move the dial to the furthest point before it became warm. Not hot. This made our stay a bit uncomfortable. Hence the four stars instead of five.

On the extremely positive side, every single staff member was friendly, professional, and welcoming. Richie, a server in the Palm Court restaurant, was especially helpful. He recognized us warmly, and remembered our preferences from day to day. The food was always delicious.

The hotel is beautiful. It’s a grand heritage building. The people who work here take pride in what they do. From the greeter who shielded us from the rain when we arrived, to the cheerful and helpful front desk staff, it seemed that everyone contributed to the success of our stay.

Breakfast with Richie
Pros:

My package included a credit for breakfast.
My server was Richie. Gave me a recommendation to visit the Saturday Market and then meet up with my scheduled tour.
What a fantastic suggestion.
Richie was attentive to all the guests and greeted each one with a smile and a good morning.
The second day when I sat down he came with coffee and creamer.
He was great and made my day.

One of the nicest stays we have ever had anywhere.
Pros:

My wife and two grown daughters traveled to PDX on a 4-day trip to attend a memorial service for a family member. The mood of the trip was subdued but the excellent service we received and kindness by the staff at the elegant Benson made the trip so much better. A huge shout-out to Katherine in the Palm Court Restaurant inside the lobby. Each morning early, when I went down to breakfast, I was greeted by this delightful woman who offered great recommendations on things to do and she was just a great conversationalist. On our last day there Katherine was off-duty, but we had the good fortune of meeting her co-worker Richie who was equally kind, hospitable and really took the time to make us feel welcome. He was really awesome. We booked a junior suite and a standard room and the accommodations were very nice indeed. While there, we did the stairwell history tour and were lucky enough to bump into the head housekeeper who gave us a private tour from the 14th floor access into the stairwell and provided further historical insights beyond what was captured in the photographs and written narratives. She made us feel like VIPs! What can I say about the Gaucho restaurant; the food, the wine and the atmosphere were simply off the chain! I could eat there every night I think. When we checked out, the desk Manager asked me what brought us to PDX, and I told him we were attending a memorial service for my mother-in-law. He offered us his condolences and then "comped" our valet parking for our entire stay. I was floored I didn't even know what to say. On a scale of 1-10, this stay was an eleven. Such an incredible location right in the heart of downtown. We will definitely be back. I told my granddaughter when she gets married we must have the rehearsal dinner at "The Gaucho" and the wedding reception right there at the Benson.
