The staff at front desk and lobby restaurant were wonderful. Location was great. Valet service was very good
The room was nothing special. Bathroom small with small countertop. Room was dated. Excepted more luxury from the Berson. The Lobby, halls are very grand. The room was a big disappointment.
After traveling by Plane, Train, an Automobile from New York to Colorado Springs, Train from Denver to Salt Lake City, and finally Automobile to Boise, we were greeted warmly by Cait&Will at the legendary Benson Hotel in Portland . They made our check in seamless, gave us tips on things to see, and room upgrades. When visiting Portland it has to be The Benson, which has a central location .
We love the Benson in Portland. Not only is it a beautiful building but the staff is outstanding. We enjoy all aspects from valet handling our car, to service and kindness of folks that work there. Location is fantastic as one can walk to most anything in downtown area from the Portland Art Museum to the Saturday Market.
We were greeted warmly at front desk.
They only service the rooms every 3 days. We had to continuously ask for basics like toilet paper, tissues, and shampoo to be replaced. Our garbage was overflowing by Day 3. Also, it was very noisy every night with motorcycles and cars racing by. Not the hotel's fault but it was our experience.
Ended up at the Benson after a horrible experience at the Heathman. The two women ( seemed like managers) working the front desk were AMAZING!! They got us in with short notice and upgraded us free of charge after a terrible experience at a hotel (the Heathman) around the corner. Very professional and the speakeasy downstairs was super cool. Great service, clean room, and quick process. Come here instead of the Heathman!
The Hotel is historic, beautiful, and conveniently located in the center of the city. Perfect location to public transportation, restaurants and to explore the city. Super comfortable beds and clean rooms. The restaurant serves a delicious menu. I will visit again.
Professional, knowledgeable, kind & helpful staff. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The room was immaculate, comfy bed & great amenities. Jazz on Wednesday from 5-7 was an extra added bonus & they were very good. Will definitely stay here again.
The lobby was beautiful and a lovely place to hang out. A beautiful old building well maintained.
Apparently, there is a “staircase museum “ at penthouse level, which adds to the appeal.
Room was bare minimum with a smell of stale cigarette? smoke. Weird fuzzy blanket and pillows. Coffee maker hidden and the morning coffee bar down in the lobby had very weak coffee and no decaf. Bed was comfortable, no complaint about that.
We had an amazing time! Especially at the restaurant. John is the heart and soul of this place!
Location is great. Awesome hotel with modern updates
Wife complained that city noise kept her up.
A really beautiful historic hotel, very well maintained. Great gym facilities, comfortable rooms and well decorated. Staff were fantastic too.
Service we a bit slow in the restaurant for breakfast. Downtown Portland is not particularly nice, though the hotel can’t help that!
Recent Stay at The Benson Hotel
My nephew was married at The Benson Hotel last week, and our entire family stayed there for the celebration. We absolutely loved our experience.
One of my brothers had adjoining rooms with his daughter, son-in-law, and two grandchildren, ages four and six. My other brother experienced some difficulty checking in because the computer system was down, and his room was not ready for about two hours. However, the staff offered complimentary drinks and chocolates to make up for the wait.
The hotel was very accommodating throughout the wedding festivities. We were able to decorate before the rehearsal and in the dining area, and the staff even allowed the couple's special guest to remain at the hotel for several hours. The bride and groom were exceptionally organized and attentive to every detail, which helped make it one of the best weddings we have attended.
The servers were efficient and pleasant during both the cocktail hour and dinner. The front desk staff were always smiling and responded promptly to every request, including additional towels and toilet paper. At breakfast, our server noticed that my eggs Benedict were not up to standard. Although I had not complained, the server kindly removed the dish from my bill.
My four-day stay at The Benson Hotel was very enjoyable, and I truly appreciated the attentive staff. Their hospitality made an already special wedding even more memorable.
A beautiful old hotel in a great location
This is a great place to, but we like classic places like The Queen Mary, and Hacienda De Los Santos. I made a mistake when I made the reservation, and we were a day late with family and two rooms. The desk manager was very gracious by crediting our payment and supplying both rooms. We had English family with children visiting, and our experience was great. It always is at The Benson. Been going there for 30 years or more. Talk about professional, some of the restaurant waiters have served there for over 25 years.
