Disappointing experience at breakfast second morning
Excellent over night stay breakfast was excellent and staff were lovely and helpful.
A little bit dated in the rooms.
Food was great
Coffee was not very nice
Good quiet location close to the port of Southampton.
Air conditioning broken, room was stifling hot and impossible to sleep. Fire alarm went off at 3am due to steam escaping from another guests shower room. Pillows were totally inadequate and tiny/flat. Room was clean but restaurant was filthy, glasses had lipstick on them, cutlery was dirty. Not enough staff, so long wait.
The staff in the restaurant were very helpful filling our bottles in the morning with iced water.
We stayed here during the recent heatwave after a four-hour drive. Unfortunately, our ground-floor room was directly affected by a wedding reception, making it far too noisy to open the window. We asked for a fan and were told staff would try to find one, but none was ever provided, leaving the room uncomfortably hot.
To make matters worse, the fire alarm sounded during the night. Guests were were unsure if it was a real emergency with no visible member of staff available for several minutes. We were later told the alarm system can be triggered by things such as bathroom steam or aerosol spray, which raises questions about whether it is set too sensitively.
The room itself was acceptable, but the overall experience was let down by poor communication and a lack of support. A warning about the wedding, or simply providing a fan or another solution, would have made a significant difference.
Breakfast available at a discounted rate at the moldy fig next door was worth doing.
Comfy double bed.
Overall - could do better with a little investment and attention to details.
A rather tired hotel which needs investment to bring it up to modern standards.
By way of examples - Rooms with double glazing that has blown and so the windows are misty, air con units on the wall that do not work. Very dark furniture which makes the room feel darker and smaller than it actually is.
We got a rude awakening at 3am because the smoke / fire alarm went off. This was caused by one of the guests having a shower with the bathroom door open which caused steam to get onto the smoke detector and set the alarms off. Although we felt fortunate that this wasn’t a fire this is something that could be easily avoided by having self close doors on the bathrooms. When I looked there was a small note about keeping the door closed when having a shower which could be easily missed. We missed it when we showered earlier in the evening and I suppose we were fortunate not to set the alarm off!
Overall - could do better with a little investment and attention to details.
Breakfast and waiting staff were excellent.
Specifically booked a 1 night hotel stay with parking prior to going on a cruise. Price and location were ok, unfortunately the problems started on the way there. Received a call asking if we were with one of the events taking place, which we knew nothing about. The told us that they were not serving food that evening due to a music event and 2 private parties happening at the venue. Arrived at the hotel and booked in, which included registering my vehicle with their parking company. Room overlooked music venue, so was noisy and no alternative rooms available. Ended up at a local pub for our evening meal. Worst thing though was when we got home after a 12 night cruise, we had received a £100 parking fine in the post for "failing to register" with 1 day left to appeal. Parking company had no contact number, no email and although we have appealed, nothing shows on their system. Fully expect to be called to a smalls claim court unless I pay this fine in full. Turned out to be a very stressful experience, instead of a relaxing pre-cruise stay. Consequently I will never stay at this venue again.
Would be great fir the airport but would literally choose any of the other hotels.
The grounds are nice.
Size of room was decent.
During a heatwave. No offer of making unbearably hot rooms comfortable for guests whatsoever.
Air con units have been switched off since covid. Probably realised how much cheaper bills were. No offer of a fan or any easement of the heat. Staying away is meant to be a nicer experiencen we wish we went home. Owner should be ashamed. If they had not have taken our payment we would of cancelled and gone home. No offer of refund of room n choice to cancel room.
We literally was so hot in the room we couldnt sleep. We had to cancel our trip the next day as was a 4 hour drive neither of us was capable of doing
Shower hose on bath but no hook to use or have a shower curtain.
Weird plugs in room
The drinks in the bar were extortionate. Double spirits mounting up to 17 odd pound EACH. Food was wetherspoons quality. Cheap sausages and not worth the price. We could of gone somewhere nice for our bill cost near 120 there after a couple drinks each at dinner. I only had a large starter too n sausage and mash for him.
Breakfast was ok other then cheap sausages.
Rooms are good but very noisy as there are fuction going on. There is no airconditon and rooms are very hot and had poor ventilation. The aircondtion are out of order since Covid. This should have to mention, when someone is booking accommodation
Breakfast was good and rooms are cleaned
Easily reached, just aside main access road.
Facilities closed at 21:00
No swimming pool.
The grounds are very pretty, with the stream running through it, and lots of beautiful trees and bushes.
In need of a face lift.... looks run down. I like the fact that it is an older place, but needs to be fixed up.
Location was great. Memorabilia in community areas was a nice touch. Staff were friendly. Large spacious room with desk and large bathroom with shower.
No air con. Shower leaked onto bathroom floor and into carpeted bedroom area (an easy solvable issue). Over inflated prices in the bar. Hot food was poor quality.
Price and location
A little bit dated
