Beautiful and elegant facilities- that were suprisingly affordable for what you receive
Breakfast was excellent. The only problem I had was arriving a lot of construction in the area. What did you like?
That was the only thing that I didn’t like was a construction around the hotel when I arrived. Everything else was almost perfect.
The lady on reception was really welcoming and helpful. The location is really nice. The lady making cocktails was super as was the breakfast.
I haven’t ever given a bad review for a hotel but sad to say I was very disappointed. We only stayed for one night and our room left a lot to be desired. The wardrobe area was totally dark, the light bulb seemed to be missing the room was very noisy with other guests doors slamming. I noted when we were there that there is to be a total refit in 2027 (I think) so I am sure the bedrooms will improve. We were doing a road trip staying in 8 different hotels and compared to those we felt we were overcharged.
Everything, staff was so nice, continental breakfast lovely. Room was cozy, the rooms were small and had personality, unlike the uniform places today! I liked that fine old hotel feel. There were people there celebrating and having fun.
Because it’s old it has few unused electric plugs to power up the
Plethora of devices we lug around these days. They had to take turns.
We were charged $195 for a meal we didn’t have. Added after we had left the hotel and took 3 weeks to resolve from UK. Cost $30 in phone charges to get money back. Very poor service.
The location and the historic building from the outside. The staff was nice and helpful.
My goodness but this hotel is in dire need of a complete refurbishment! The place smells old from the minute you walk in. The interior is dark and uninviting - the only somewhat redeeming factor is the terrace and small garden, but not by much. The common spaces are stuck in a 1975 time warp, the carpets an eye sore, the furniture super dated, the wallpaper is old and peeling, in places sloppily patched over. The room was not nice, old furniture and carpet, rusted air conditioning unit, peeling wallpaper, lime scale stuck on shower tiles, peeling paint, musty smell. I was shocked that an inn so beautifully represented on its website would offer such a stark contrast in person. The owners HAVE TO INVEST IN A COMPLETE OVERHAUL. It's a shame really, as the building itself is quite beautiful and could be so much more. Perhaps as the inn is one of the few places for Phillips Academy guests to stay, they have grown complacent. Much improvement is required!
