Not only is the Sofitel Legend in Cartagena a beautiful, ideally located hotel with such attentive staff all around but also the butler team is absolutely amazing. They worked with me in advance to finalize my itinerary and made my big birthday so special. Based on my experience, I now I’m looking for a Sofitel for my trips to Italy and France.
I highly recommend taking a day trip to the Sofitel Baru, scheduling a trip to Palenque via the hotel with a guide who lives in Palenque, and eating at 1621. I wish I had time and room in my belly to check out the downstairs bar. The outdoor bar has a great view!
The pool is so relaxing and has umbrellas for every two chairs!! So necessary.
Best hotel by far in Cartagena Colombia. 5th time here and after terrible experience in OSH we ended up here wishing we would have stayed here all nights. Super professional, luxury hotel from the start to the end . All staff are friendly, helpful and welcoming. I would definitely go here again . Thank you

From the beginning to the end, the butler service team was in constant communication with me, asking if there was anything I needed from my trip. They helped me set up activities for my wife and me, essentially planning out our entire vacation. They were absolutely amazing!

A truly beautiful place, with superb service. Lovely visually. Lovely pool. The HUGE problem is that it is vastly overpriced for what you get. We checked into a majordomo room with ocean view. Tiny, really small - tiny bathroom, no place to store suitcases. When we arrived, the room had broken furniture and was dirty, after not respecting checkin time. All for $600 US a night, plus a mandatory 10% service fee added to the bill. They boosted us to a junior suite, which was great. Food was delicious, but hugely overpriced. The value is not here. Felt gauged and ripped off.
Our stay at Sofitel Legend Santa Clara Cartagena was absolutely exceptional. As always, Sofitel was truly up to our expectations from arrival to departure. The entire experience was flawless and perfectly reflects the elegance and level of service the brand is known for.
The hotel itself is stunning, full of history and charm, right in the heart of the beautiful old city of Cartagena. The location could not be better for exploring the vibrant streets, architecture, restaurants and atmosphere of Cartagena while still enjoying the calm and luxury of the property.
The interior garden is simply magical. Having breakfast surrounded by tropical vegetation and birds singing in the morning was one of the highlights of the stay. The food was outstanding throughout our visit. The ceviche by the pool was absolutely delicious and perfectly paired with a cocktail while enjoying the relaxing atmosphere and warm Caribbean weather.
Our suite offered an incredible ocean view and every detail felt refined and luxurious. Most importantly, the staff was amazing from beginning to end. Warm, attentive, professional and genuinely welcoming, they made the experience even more memorable.
A truly spectacular property that combines luxury, history, gastronomy and an unforgettable atmosphere. Definitely one of the most beautiful Sofitel experiences we’ve had.

My husband and I returned to the Sofitel Legend Santa Clara for a quick stay after getting married there four years ago, and somehow the place still carries the same incredible magic that made our wedding feel so special in the first place.
Having breakfast in the courtyard again was honestly one of the highlights of our trip. Sitting under the trees with the birds, the old convent architecture surrounding you, it felt like being in garden of Eden. With the truly epic breakfast spread they have in front of you (plus anything else you might want to order from a waiter) this might genuinely be the best breakfast experience on Earth. It felt surreal to be back.
What continues to make this hotel stand out is the level of care behind every detail. The staff clearly take enormous pride in what they do, and it shows everywhere. Walking through the doors feels less like checking into a hotel and more like stepping off the street into another world — quiet, romantic, and almost fairy tale-like.
We also had dinner at Restaurant 1621, the hotel’s tasting menu restaurant, and it was perfect. Intimate, elegant, and every course felt beautifully thought out and immaculately prepared. One of those meals you keep talking about long after it’s over.
The Santa Clara will always hold a special place in our hearts. We already can’t wait for our next visit to this magical city and this magical hotel.
