We had an amazing experience! The atmosphere is stunning (we sat in the courtyard which is full of lush plants, and fans to keep you cool). We had amazing food and drinks, and great service from Alondra, who spoke excellent English as well as Spanish
Some hotels are simply places to stay. This one is a destination in itself.
Housed in a beautifully restored 17th-century convent, this property is an absolute jewel. From the moment you walk through its doors, it feels less like a hotel and more like a five-star museum, where history, elegance, and luxury come together perfectly.
The rooms are absolutely stunning, combining historic charm with every modern comfort. Every corner of the hotel is beautifully maintained and full of character.
What truly sets this hotel apart, however, is the people. Every member of the staff is genuinely warm, welcoming, and incredibly service-oriented. Nothing is too much trouble, and they consistently go above and beyond to make your stay memorable.
The dining experience is exceptional, with an excellent selection of restaurants and bars, all offering outstanding food, drinks, and atmosphere. The pool is equally impressive—a peaceful oasis that perfectly complements the unique setting.
A special tip: don't miss the complimentary 30-minute guided tour of the hotel. It's fascinating and provides wonderful insight into the rich history of this remarkable building. It made me appreciate the property even more.

Without question, this is one of the very best hotels I have stayed at in recent years. The name says it all: Legend. If I could give it six stars, I absolutely would.
We enjoyed our stay at the Sofitel Cartagena. Everyone at the hotel was friendly and helpful. The food was excellent.
Im Hotel findet man in allen Ecken immer wieder neue Details. Zudem sollte man das Buch von Gabriel Garcia Marquez, welches im Hotel handelt, gelesen haben. Der Pool verleitet einem dazu, das Hotel gar nicht zu verlassen, trotzdem sollte man das unbedingt tun. Wenn man genügend Zeit hat, dann gibt es viel mehr als nur die Altstadt zu sehen (Islas del Rosario, Baru, Islas de San Bernardo, Totumo, La Popa, Fuerte San Fernando etc.).
Sowohl beim Check in als auch beim Check out wurden zusätzliche Kosten verrechnet. Schade - dachte dass die Buchung gilt.
Every time we’re in Cartagena, we look forward to staying here. The pool is hands down our favorite spot, and the service there is always amazing. Seeing Alex and the team is one of the best parts—they’re so welcoming, always remember us, and somehow make us feel like family. It’s those little things that keep us coming back every time.
We visit the Santa Clara at least once a year for a break. Overall, it’s a wonderful experience. One of our favorite experiences is breakfast. The selections are excellent and we enjoy being taken care of by Ingris, Aleidis and Vannesa. We have gotten to know them over our regular visits and they are a very important factor in making our visits so very special. The Santa Clara is a special place.

La habitación es vieja, fea, con basurera oxidada y extremadamente pequeña. No vale la pena pagar el monto por el tipo de habitación y atención recibida. La piscina es pequeña. Por su estructura hace un calor terrible y no llega la brisa del mar. Nos quejamos a varias veces y no hicieron nada. Lamentable q un hotel que se vende como 5 estrellas tenga instalaciones tan viejas y tan mala atención. El carro de la foto estuvo por más de 24h al lado de la habitación. A pesar de que dijimos nunca fue retirado.

A true five star property in the heart of old town Cartagena, Columbia. We booked our stay with American Express Fine Hotels and Resorts were upgraded to a nice room. We also had an included free daily breakfast, which was very good with made to order dishes and a healthy selection of buffet items. I would like to acknowledge two people who went out of their way to make sure we had a good experience: Matteo and Karem. Both were at the front desk, and made sure that our stay was perfect. Would definitely stay here again.
It would be difficult to recognize everyone without unintentionally leaving someone out because the entire team was exceptional. We especially enjoyed interacting with Jeremy, Edison, Alejandro, Marco Antonio, Pedro, and Gabriel, who were always friendly, attentive, and welcoming. At Jardin Restaurant, Leonardo, Jorge, Maria, Claudia, Katherine, Clarabel, Alondra, and Oriana provided outstanding service and made every dining experience a pleasure. At 1621 Zharick and Jose were awesome! Truly, every member of the staff we encountered was fantastic and contributed to making our stay so memorable.

Inside the walled city; convenient to walk to shops and restaurants.
Overall, the stay was amazing.
Atmosphere:
Quaint historic luxurious architecture. The structure and layout create nostalgic ambience but very clean - no mold mildew or musty odor.
The courtyard, lobby and walkways enhance the island feel of outdoors.
Plenty of free glass bottled water; a water refill station; and icy cucumber-lime infused water in the lobby.
Check-in:
Was very smooth and welcoming. The entire staff was inviting, professional and well dressed so easily differentiated and recognizable.
Rooms: Immaculate.
Comfortable and cozy.
Senora Edis was our housekeeper who works tirelessly and added nice touches to our room that we noticed.
Bed and bedding was impeccably clean, rooms adequately spaced with drawers, closets and clothes hangers. (choice of pillows)
Bathroom:
Very clean with good lighting including a magnifying make up mirror. Also the hotel provided umbrellas in the rooms and the lobby.
Cleanliness:
The entire hotel was immaculately clean. If there was any flaw or lack it was addressed immediately to satisfaction.
Value:
Expensive intercontinental 5 star expectations with exceptional staff service.
Noise level:
amazingly NO disturbances in the room.
The only noise was at night in the restaurant courtyard — loud, continuous high-pitched peeping sounds vocalized by tiny ground frogs but that’s nature so you cannot control it. I did not see them but surely heard them. They are part of Cartagena.
Amenities:
Whatever you need, they can provide. The bathroom had nice basic toiletries; the room had varieties of coffee and delicious chocolates. Plenty of water for the asking.

Every single staff member that we encountered was courteous, gracious and welcoming.

Señora Amada is a wonderfully pleasant accommodating waitress. We appreciated her attentiveness, bright smile and looked forward to dining in her station.

Señor Rudy Cuadro is the epitome of excellence extraordinaire! A perfect gentleman.
He is very professional; personable, respectful; knowledgeable and well versed with superb multi- lingual communication skills; well mannered, resourceful and patient.
He explained historical aspects of Columbia and walled city of Cartagena in textbook fashion. Amazing! Answering our many questions regarding cultural, recreational and leisure tourist pastimes.
Upon request Sr. Rudy suggested several options of impressive safe excursions to experience. He booked exclusive reservations and outings for us including the Palenque tour. At Palenque we had an incredible fun time where we interacted, shopped, learned and enjoyed the Best food of our entire trip (besides the hotel breakfast buffet).
Sr. Rudy scheduled our hotel spa appointment that we changed several times, accommodating every change without even a hint of annoyance.
Sr. Rudy was perfect for us, the absolute best —-we could not have had any better synchronization.

We had a wonderful dinner in the courtyard at Santa Clara - fabulous food and service- with a special mention to Vanessa for taking care of us so well! The courtyard is stunning - calm and peaceful perfect for dinner.
We loved everything about our stay. The breakfast is absolutely and fantastic, especially having it in the courtyard. The location is perfect, right in the old town.
But what was most outstanding was the service by the staff. Literally every member of staff, from the people at the pool to the butlers to the people serving breakfast. Wow! Thank you for all you do!
