Breakfast wasn’t included which was disappointing given the cost

I had requested twin beds as travelling with my daughter. Upon arrival there was only 1 bed. Apparently the request for a twin bed on booking.com is not enough to let the hotel know, so put such requirements in the 'special requests' section. Although the staff were very friendly, you got the feeling there were not quite enough of them and they were a bit stretched, which was a pity given the positives of the hotel.

No breakfast included for a £310 room is insane. Was unclear on the booking. 10% discount is offered but 1.20 off when you spent over 300 quid isn’t on. One breakfast server was great but all other staff encountered weren’t great. One of the servers doubled up as a front desk staff so wasn’t ideal to raise issues. Breakfast was also relatively poor which made paying for it even more frustrating

Rooms didn’t have accessible items ie no grab handles in the shower

Huge jacuzzi bath was difficult to get in and out off. Hand held shower was not practical to use. Dinner in the restaurant was disappointing.

A bit of a funny one! I have stayed in dozens of boutique hotels and feel very much that this one is boutique in name, but not in nature. The whole ambience is incredibly strange, a feeling that I note other reviewers have pointed out. It’s as if it’s a newly opened hotel. Staff were lovely but seemed to play multiple roles across the hotel rather than having dedicated team members. To me, the point of a small, independent boutique hotel is that the service is very personalised and almost overly helpful. You feel incredibly looked after. Don’t get me wrong, each member of staff we spoke to was happy and helpful, but in simple terms, I felt that the service didn’t feel slick or particularly guest focused.There was no one to greet us on arrival to the restaurant, so we picked up our own menus and headed to a table, only to be told that a table had been reserved for us already. We were first asked if we wanted to order food rather than drinks and had to ask for the cocktail menu. Food service was great and everybody seemed very friendly but the onus was definitely on us to ask for further drinks and the dessert menu whereas I would’ve expected the staff to be more forthcoming with this so that we felt fully looked after. As a slightly fussy sidenote the lighting is a bit too bright in the restaurant compared to the evening ambience that you would want. Unfortunately, following the meal, my friend and I spent the night being quite violently unwell. This has of course sadly tarnished our experience. Ultimately, I think if the price of this day was cheaper and the expectation of “boutique” wasn’t there, it was generally an ok to good experience. But when the price point is in expensive territory (£250pn), and the selling point is a boutique experience, the expectation of guests is sadly not met.
