Disapointing
Pros:

I had a very bad experience at this hotel. During my stay, my jewelry bag containing several valuable items disappeared. It included three pairs of gold earrings and a very valuable pearl necklace. This was extremely distressing, as these items had significant financial and sentimental value. I was deeply disappointed by how this situation affected my stay. I encourage future guests to keep their valuables secure and to be cautious.

Beautiful, elegant "lady" well located in heart of city
Pros:

We stayed here following a Viking cruise. The hotel is elegant, reflective of a golden era. The hotel staff was so very friendly and helpful during our stay, couldn't ask for more from them. Hopefully the hotel will consider opening their restaurant in the future to provide a complete destination experience. BTW, the included buffet breakfast was most impressive and delicious. Can't beat the location for walking around the center of Reykjavik. Plenty of shops, restaurants, drinking establishments, etc. within easy 5-15 minute walk.

Short stay
Pros:

As others have noted, the hotel is in an excellent location near main shopping areas and the harbor area, as well as restaurants and bars.
The hotel is clean and appears to be well maintained, although originally built in the 1930’s.
The staff was friendly and offered restaurant options as the hotel’s restaurant/bar was closed during our stay (temporary or permanent?) except for breakfast. Not a big deal for us as it provided the opportunity visit a couple of the many near by restaurants/bars.
Our room was small by current standards and lacked storage space, especially for 2 people. The coffee maker and one bed side lamp did not work which was not a big deal due to our short stay.
Also there were limited electrical outlets. I climbed under the desk to locate 2 power strips (already powering TV, coffee maker, lamp, etc.) so I could connect phone/iPad chargers.
Of greater concern were the potentially unsafe conditions in the bathroom, especially for people with mobility issues or the elderly:
-I have never seen such a small sink in a hotel bathroom. It was impossible to use without splashing water on the tile floor creating a slipping hazard. Placing the bath mat under the sink helped to minimize the problem
-The combo tub/shower was a bigger issue. The side of the tub was ~5 inches above my knee (~25 inches above the floor), and there were no grab bars or handholds making it difficult to climb in the tub. (As a point of reference the side of a typical household tub is ~ 15 inches above the floor). Once in the tub taking a shower was also a challenge as there were no grab bars/handholds, and no anti slip protection on the floor of the tub. One had to be very careful to avoid slipping and falling in the narrow tub. Then getting out of the wet tub without the benefit of handholds was potentially dangerous. My wife elected to pass on the shower during our short stay due to the tub hazzards.

Not bad at all, but some issues.
Pros:

The location is fine, and the staff were welcoming. Iceland is very expensive, and by UK standards, the room rate is high, and our room was only adequate . Comfortable bed, but nowhere to put stuff, small bathroom, with little space for stuff. Semi-blocked sink. The breakfast, charged at about £30 each, is served in a large dark room that resembles a mausoleum, the eggs and bacon were cold, the baked beans were hot. The reception desk was overwhelmed by large groups of visitors. Overall, we don’t think this all amounts to a great stay, and we’ll check out alternatives when we next visit.

Perfect location in Reykjavík
Pros:

Happy that we went with Hotel Borg as our home base for Iceland trip. Great location, central to both harbor and city sites. Easy access to joining tours outside Reykjavik. Nice, reasonably-priced breakfast buffet. Relaxing spa area. Would definitely stay here again on another Iceland trip.

An Iconic Hotel That Needs Improvement
Pros:

Hotel Borg is a lovely hotel located right at the heart of downtown Reykjavik, where regardless of if you're leaving or entering the building, you can feel the palpable energy of the city everywhere. It's one of the main draws for me to keep coming back. I also loved how it was only 2-minutes away from Bus Stop 3 for tour buses and is walking distance from all the iconic sites. The staff was kind and helpful. They're awesome for holding your luggage for you free of charge while you explore the city before the 3 pm check-in, and that they just might let you check in an hour early, also free of charge. The rooms are quaint and small. I didn't have the heated bathroom floors like other reviewers have mentioned, and my room didn't have a view, but that was okay. I really enjoyed the Molton Brown products. Housekeeping always made my bed and replaced my bathroom towels every day, just as I requested at check-in. The room was cozy and I slept well even despite the hotel being next to a lively bar and pub; if anything, the night life added to the ambiance of a charming hotel. This hotel has all the makings of a 5-star hotel, but its big issue lies in two things of which Hotel Borg highlights as their star feature on the website, but that was otherwise just not good: the spa and the breakfast. There were no staff at the spa. The hot tub was empty, and the sauna was also turned off, so I was left to only enjoy the steam room. It made no sense as to why such a nice spa, especially if it's supposed to be complimentary for all guests, and if it's open, was otherwise abandoned. When I brought this up with the front desk, nobody seemed to care. The breakfast was pitiful, to say the least, and is not worth the 30-euro surcharge. The hot food was cold, the bread was stale, and the pastries looked and tasted old. For being a buffet, there wasn't really much to choose from, it was just your standard hotel breakfast fare, but the worst you'll ever try. Nothing had flavor or seasoning or was undercooked or overcooked. There were staff there, but they paid no attention to the guests and didn't seem attentive to the buffet spread when there was a mess or when something needed replenishing. It was seriously the worst hotel breakfast I ever had, so bad that for the rest of my stay I went to nearby bakeries or convenience stores in the morning before my tour excursions so that I wouldn't feel the need to have breakfast at this hotel again. Other than that, though, I otherwise enjoyed my stay. I will book with Borg again, but they seriously need to revamp their spa and breakfast. It's just inexcusable for this establishment to neglect them. This hotel is an icon, and should be treated as such, so I only hope that in the future they'll also recognize that too.

Great city hotel
Pros:

The hotel was well maintained, the rooms were very nice and the staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms were very warm and noisy at night because there are bars/restaurants located nearby. If it wasn’t the first two days of our trip and we were more well rested this wouldn’t have bothered us! Overall a great location and a nice hotel.

A lovely hotel, but the hotel has a policy of not servicing rooms.
Pros:

The Hotel is in a wonderful position, close to restaurants. My husband and I were very happy with the room when we arrived.

Cons:

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights. When we arrived, the hotel had a "go green" notice in our room to say our room would not be serviced unless we requested it. The following morning we requested our room be serviced, but it was not. Arriving back after a long day to an unmade bed, dirty coffee cups/wine glasses, overflowing bins and a not pristine shower, certainly spoilt our day!!

Excellent location
Pros:

Location, well appointed, friendly staff
Fridge, coffee in room

Cons:

Minor thing: while there was coffee in the room, I expected a bottle of water but I know that the tap water is fine to drink but I like my water ice cold.
Also not fond of the pillows,
