Pros:

The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. The room was very warm so we definitely needed to crank the windows open but once we did that, it cooled down and was comfortable for sleeping. The breakfast selection was large with delicious pastries and good coffee.

Cons:

The parking was tricky at the property. The booking tool said there was no onsite parking so we parked in the ramp across the street however once we checked in, we were told that in fact, there were 2 spots in the back alley lot dedicated to the hotel. We moved the vehicle to the back lot which was free for guests but were still charged at the ramp for the 1st hour (no big deal but something to be aware of).

Nice hotel in center
Pros:

Nice hotel in Reykjavik center, walking distance to all main attractions. The receptionists were very welcoming and were able to offer us a room a little earlier the official check-in time 3pm.

We had a room with balcony, and it was so nice to open the door for fresh air when the weather got a bit too warm. Unfortunately we weren’t able to keep the door open during night, as this balcony is common for all rooms at this floor with an outside staircase to the street.

Breakfast was excellent with good variety, room spacious and bed was comfortable.

Great hotel… excellent location.
Pros:

Arrived mid morning after 17 hours of travel. We had a reservation but too early to get a room at the inn.

Both Eduardo and Joana were very understanding of how tired we were, a 5 plus hour wait for a 3 pm check in.. the lobby was jammed with people waiting for there Saturday cruise, we were embarking Sunday

At 2;00 pm Joanna smiled and said the magic words” Randall, your room is ready”.

Later that evening after a needed nap we ventured into the rain… everything was busy. We did find excellent Pho just down the street.

Eduardo arranged our $75 US 10 minute ride to the cruise port for Sunday at 2 pm.

Sunday morning after a wonderful breakfast we ventured out onto Laugavager Street to explore. It’s the main shopping and dining street in Reykjavik. Many small shops were closed as it was Sunday.

Then about noon it was back to the lobby. We chatted with Eduardo about life in Iceland. He is from Portugal. Apparently wages and the quality of life are better in Iceland.

Iceland is pretty much a socialist country. Income taxes begin at 31.89% then 39.8 % and the maximum of 49,8 %.

We woukd recommend this hotel. Turn right out the door and enjoy a wonderful downtown.

Not worth it - no parking, upcharge for everything
Pros:

The Center Hotel is a fine chain, was clean and in a fine location, but is definitely not a 4 star hotel and not worth the USD$475 per night.

There is no spa, pool, gym or similar facility on site. They claim access to sister hotel that is a few blocks away, but is limited on time and charges for access to the hot tub and other facilities.

The hotel nickel and dimes you, which would not be expected for the price. There is nothing special about the rooms (they are new and clean, but that's it). The location is at the end of Laugavegur, which places it away from the central activities but does make it a bit quieter.

The bar in the hotel, Loa, is disorganized, messy and basically a liquor Cafe. It has no vibe, poor service, no selection, and is messy. The breakfast is good (American-style), but not included in the price of the rooms. Staff was friendly, but never fixed a problem withou our phone.

They claim free parking but there are only 10 spaces for about 120+ rooms.

I would not stay here again.

Enjoyed Stay/Value (wish more room)
Pros:

Hotel was very nice. Front desk staff, housekeeping and breakfast staff were friendly, warm and helpful. Big bathroom in corner rooms, rest of room really tight. It works for a few days and the price is right BUT most regular rooms are shoe boxes. That’s why we would pay more to find more generous room sizes.
