Staff attention to our concerns was reasonable.
1. Room Condition: The initial room we were assigned had a very unpleasant odor. It was so strong that we had to request a different room immediately upon arrival.
2. Renovation Inconvenience: Due to ongoing renovations, we had to use the service elevator to access our room. It would have been appreciated if the hotel had informed guests of this in advance so we could set our expectations accordingly.
3. Uncomfortable Bed: The bed was extremely uncomfortable. Both my wife and I woke up the next morning with significant back pain.
4. Housekeeping Service: We requested fresh bed sheets in the evening. While we were out for dinner, housekeeping delivered the clean sheets but simply left them on a shelf instead of replacing the existing ones. This was disappointing and not the level of service we expected.
5. Unsafe Shower Temperature: The hot water in the shower reached an excessively high temperature and burned my thigh. I reported the incident to the front desk and explained that I would likely need to see my dermatologist. The response I received was simply, “Sorry to hear that,” with no further concern or follow-up.
6. Complimentary Breakfast: We were informed that a complimentary breakfast was available. However, when we went downstairs at approximately 8:50 a.m., nearly all of the food had already been depleted, leaving us with very limited options. For a breakfast advertised as complimentary for guests, this was quite disappointing.
Location, beautiful decor
Bathroom tub was not clean at all
I recently stayed at The Goodwin Hotel on a work trip and was very pleased with the property. As someone who worked in the frontline for Hospitality for 5+ years I can easily say the entire staff treated not only myself, but every single one of my colleagues like family. I checked in at around 6pm this past Monday by a very generous front desk agent Jeslynne. Upon arrival she welcomed me and my colleague Bryan to the Goodwin hotel. She knew we were staying due to work as we had the pre-existing reservation and gave us great suggestions for food and entertainment around the area. She gave us a whole breakdown on how to go to New Haven, from the train tickets to where to eat and what areas are a go to. I later found out she was the Hotel manager and was not surprised as she took really great care of us. Along with Jeslynne, Alex, Elliot and one other (Overnight FD Supervisor) wish I knew her name, but she wore glasses and was also great. Everyone was extremely kind and helpful, but with me working in valet for many years I always love talking to the face of the hotel and talk to the Valets. All were great and helpful, but Saboor was by far the nicest, coolest, and most caring person I came across. From giving me suggestions on where to go in the area and even remembering my name on 2nd day we were staying at the Hotel. I live in California and this was my first time in Connecticut, let alone the East Coast and this was by far the best trip I have ever taken, and the Goodwin Hotel Team definitely had a big impact on that. If and when I come back no question on where I will be staying. Thank you to everyone who made this trip memorable.
Historic building, modern rooms. Good central location -- river park and many restaurants close by. Staff was very helpful. The free downtown DASH bus stops across the street and was a good way to see a bit of the city. Walkable from Amtrak; there's also a DASH stop there. Complimentary breakfast was very strange -- described as "grab and go." Spoons and coffee cups not kept stocked. Wrapped muffins and wrapped croissants. Hot water but no tea bags.
We like staying at the goodwin. Its a luxury hotel within a good distance to UConn if we visit the school . Better than the local hotel at Storrs and worth the cost unlike the prices at Storrs. This is our go to place to stay when events at UConn make the rooms outrageous. Also pet Friendly. Staff are very attentive and friendly.
Nothing
Sadly, our stay at the Goodwin was neither Good nor a Win.
Despite knowing there was an event that night, they put us in a "deluxe" room with an interior window overlooking – wait for it – a ridiculously loud and obnoxious wedding that blared live music from rehearsals at 4pm until after 11pm.
When we complained for obvious reasons they put us in another room, so we had to spend over an hour of our last evening in Hartford packing and moving into different accommodations with two double beds instead of the King we had booked. (Despite having to be on the road for an 8 hour drive the next day.)
Protips to guests: Under no circumstances should you agree to have one of these horrible interior rooms that overlooks their event space. MAKE SURE YOU ASK THEM, because for some reason they don't disclose this either on their site when you book or in person when you check in. They prefer to pretend it's not a massive problem and make you complain first.
To the Goodwin: Stop putting people in these rooms on nights when there is an event. It's a known issue which you refuse to be transparent about with your guests, which is not only utterly insane, but disrespectful in the extreme. Do better.
We hope the hotel chooses to make this right as soon as possible. We spent over $700 for this clusterf@&k of a room, which is completely unacceptable on any level. Be warned.

Room 512, short windows, mattress tired and bouncy
Location was amazing.
It was not very clean. Especially bathroom. Had mold in the bathtub around the drain and hair. AC was not working properly
Our room was great, the bed was super comfortable and we loved the overall vibe!
Hair dryer needs to be replaced
I’ve now stayed at The Goodwin three times, and each visit has been exceptional. It has become my automatic first choice whenever I’m in the area. The location is incredibly convenient—an easy walk from the train station or a quick ride share—making travel seamless and stress‑free.
From the moment I’m dropped at the front door, I’m greeted warmly, and that level of hospitality continues throughout my stay. The hotel is beautifully maintained, with a timeless charm and an attention to detail that truly stands out. Cleanliness is consistently excellent; every space feels fresh, cared for, and thoughtfully prepared.
The rooms themselves are a highlight. Each one feels unique, with gorgeous tile floors and a shower that honestly feels like a dream—spacious, modern, and designed for pure comfort. Despite being in a central location, the rooms are remarkably quiet, offering a peaceful retreat at the end of the day.
What keeps me returning, though, is the staff. They consistently go above and beyond. On my most recent visit, Bren and Peta took the time to stop and speak with me, and every interaction I’ve had with the team has felt genuine and attentive. They’re always on top of things, and it shows.
For the level of service, comfort, and overall experience, The Goodwin offers exceptional value. Each stay feels elevated and memorable, and I always leave looking forward to the next visit.
I can’t recommend it highly enough.
The 2 queen-size beds and the room size were comfortable accept the pillows too soft I woke up with pain in my shoulders and neck, but everything else was exactly as described on their website. The bar was loud on Friday night, but everyone looked comfortable enjoying their drinks as the DJ played music it was a nice atmosphere. The location was excellent close to everything especially People’s Bank.
The hotel is located near every thing, the valid parking, no rugs in the room and no smoking area in the hotel.
We had an excellent stay here — wonderful staff, beautiful rooms, comfortable beds! Highly recommend
Bridgette and Jeslynne were extremely helpful professionals and were a pleasure to work with. I definitely appreciate they’re attitudes and smiles
