Listen, you get what you pay for. And this isn’t an awful hotel. The lobby and public areas are very nice. The rooms are very dated, giving recently renovated Motel 6 vibes. It’s comfortable but dated. That’s fine.
However the reason I’m giving this such a low score is because everything else is a mess. Specifically, the lack of safety I felt while a guest there. Shortly after checking in, I was lying comfortably on the bed mid way through changing to get ready for the pool. I’m just sitting there, and other couple opens the door, sees me half naked, and yells at me for being in their room. I tell them to get out.
It turns out the front desk forgot to check me in despite giving me a key card for my room, so another couple got a key for my room. On top of that I was told I was in the wrong room. They offered to upgrade me, but I’m already unpacked and we’re there for one night. And it’s not like the upgrades get you a better quality room - you’re either closer to the pool where children and screaming and cannon balling at all outs, or you’re by the swamp.
On top of that, every time, for the remainder of my stay, my key card worked exactly once. I would have to go down to the front desk every time I left my room to get a new key card. They blamed me for being magnetic. Whatever.
Listen, I acknowledge I’m being harsh, but when it comes down to it I felt unsafe. My only two criteria when it comes to hotels are 1) are they clean? And 2) are they safe? It failed at one of those, so this hotel failed. But hey, at least the other guests got to a free show.
Everything was really cute! Rooms were updated and very sustainable. Pool was a highlight! Could walk to different resturants!

This is a gem of a hotel in Hilo. My friend and I visited for a few days before we traveled to Volcano National Park. Staff were friendly and helpful, and they have a cute store where you can buy snacks and other goodies.
It's in an area with a ton of restaurants nearby, and it's close to Rainbow Falls, OK Farms, and Akaka Falls. Perfect location.
It's a great value-rooms were clean, the gardens were beautiful, and the lobby was a wonderful place to just sit and have coffee. Thank you again, SCP Hilo!

Very Ideal Location in Hilo
Town , close to the ocean and natural saltwater ponds. Perfect for walking around the historic Banyan Drive.. Clean and friendly service at SPC.. Great complimentary coffee ☕️ too . Can’t wait to go back..
The property is nicely renovated and common areas are great. We enjoyed walking around and seeing the different wings with beautiful landscaping
Rooms were a little sparse and on the older side but beds were comfortable and linens clean. AC was noisy and not very strong, but with the ceiling fan running simultaneously the room was comfortable.

Soft beds ! Didn’t sleep well
We loved SCP so much we added a 4th night onto our 3 night stay. It’s in the middle of everything, walkable to several restaurants and has a gorgeous view of Ice Pond. You can even jump in and swim like the locals! We were lucky and saw sea turtles while walking across the bridge! It’s a quick 15 minute uber ride from the airport.
The staff is incredible. They have a terrific text system that can be used to ask questions along with a regular phone in the room. The remodel is so beautiful, especially the pool area that gives a resort feel. I loved the lobby furniture so much I took pics so I could source it for my own house. The koi pond is gorgeous as well, and the free Kona coffee station at the front was something I looked forward to daily.
Most of all, I loved the warm and helpful front desk. Each person I interacted with extended the welcoming spirit of aloha. We’ll definitely be returning when we visit Hilo next time!

A pesar de que en booking ponía claramente todas las tasas e impuestos incluidos, nos cobraron una tasa de $29. Habitaciones muy básicas, en vez de un hotel de 4 estrellas parece un Motel de carretera.

Aloha vibes! The employees were kind and helpful. Great location. The room was so nice ✨, and we had so much fun swimming and exploring the many treasures of the hotel. ☺️

Com bom tempo, a entrada era bastante agradável para passar tempo livre a ler ou a confraternizar, com vários bancos, sofás e mesas e uma fachada aberta para um lago.
O quarto era bastante grande.
A casa de banho tinha muito espaço onde pousar coisas.
Além do mau isolamento acústico, não havia política de silêncio. As pessoas batiam portas e passavam pelos quartos, que não tinham janelas que fechassem totalmente, a falar alto a qualquer hora. As crianças punham-se aos berros na piscina, que dava para os quartos, logo de manhã cedo. Deviam pôr avisos de respeito de silêncio, já que os hóspedes não sabem viver em sociedade. Cheguei a enviar uma mensagem ao hotel a pedir que fossem mandar calar pessoas mal-educadas a falar alto no quarto ao lado às cinco da manhã, pois nem conseguíamos dormir, mas só responderam no dia seguinte à tarde a lamentar.
Estavam sempre crianças aos montes a monopolizar a piscina, a mergulhar e a saltar. Os adultos sem filhos, que pagaram bastante, não podiam usufruir dela. É lamentável. Podiam fazer um horário só para adultos, como há em vários hotéis, para ninguém sair prejudicado.
O quarto não tinha espelho de corpo inteiro.
As torneiras a correr no quarto ao lado ouviam-se como se fossem no nosso.
Não havia rede no quarto para usar os dados móveis.
O colchão afundava demasiado.
A porta do quarto tinha uma fresta tão grande em baixo, que qualquer bicho entraria.
Não faz sentido num quarto tão grande o televisor ser um monitor e nem ter sinal.
Deixei uma nota aquando da reserva a dizer que íamos em lua-de-mel para surpreender o meu marido, mas não houve nenhuma atenção por parte do hotel. Sendo de quatro estrelas e de um valor elevado, seria de esperar pelo menos um simples detalhe especial.
Em geral, para uma classificação de quatro estrelas, o hotel precisa de várias melhorias.

No usb plugs, very small bathroom, partial parking on the street, 1970s feel.
Wonderful atmosphere, super convenient, cool style, great pool, best of all is the front desk staff!
