The courteous staff. The beauty abd cleanliness of Ayres
Charges in snack bar too high. Need higher toilets
I left a newly purchased jacket in my room after checking out. I called the hotel immediately to report it and was told by the front desk to call back the next day. When I called the next day, I was given the same response.
After calling the hotel a total of four times, I was finally told that they could not find the jacket. I am certain that I left it in the room.
I am disappointed that despite reporting the missing item immediately after checkout, it took four calls to receive an answer, and the hotel was unable to locate the jacket. No one actually care about it.
Beds were so comfortable, and the room we stayed in was so quiet.
Parking
The property itself was nice and our youngest enjoyed the pool in the morning.
We were extremely disappointed by the lack of hospitality when we checked in. Because of our family size, we had to book two rooms, and we expected the hotel to make a reasonable effort to keep our family together. We weren’t even greeted warmly and were simply told there were no rooms next to each other and that they were sold out. My husband went back downstairs and asked to speak with a manager, and somehow two rooms together were then found.
I also spoke with a manager at checkout about our experience. She listened, but that was about it. For a hotel that is in the business of hospitality, the entire experience felt surprisingly unwelcoming.
Excellent such a surprise! We love this hidden gem!!!
Having stayed at this hotel probably 10 times over the course of three months, I am absolutely addicted to this hotel – I wish all hotels were like this hotel. The service is absolutely perfect – it is accommodating and when you need help with something , everyone works as hard as they can to do what they can within their power – they are kind, professional and there there is never a question of if I need something “are they going to try help me?”They will and I trust that if it is in their power to help me, they will do it.
It has been an interesting experience because I have never needed to stay at a hotel this frequently and this hotel has taught me the value of customer service – I rarely need much of anything, but when I do, they figure it out and make it right and it has made me an extremely loyal customer of theirs.
The prices are always reasonable, their service is excellent and I never worry about being frustrated - and that is everything.
Great location. Clean and nice in room amenities. Restaurant was very good. And we could NOT hear the jets taking off. Very nice!!! So close to everything. We'll definitely stay here again.
The hotel was very clean, the lobby and foyer of the suite rooms was very welcoming and well maintained. We stayed 2 nights and was happy that we had maid service which you don't always get with a 2 night stay anymore. The coffee machine in the room did not work but I was having breakfast downstairs anyways so not too big of a deal. The parking was challenging and I did notice parking on the other side of the suite tower in a strip mall was utilized by some. If i had known this parking existed I would not have paid the $24 a night especially with the difficulty of finding a spot. Overall a beautiful, clean and convenient place to stay for Newport Beach and the airport.
Clean
We dined at the hotel restaurant for breakfast and dinner and the food was great.
The room bathroom could use some updating/repairs.
I loved the location, how clean and how helpful staff was
Available parking
Very clean, smells good; great restaurant on site. Great location by the airport close to the beach.
I can’t think of a single complaint.
Old school elegance with an Italian vibe!
Everything was fabulous!

I've stayed at The Ayres in Costa Mesa regularly since I first started traveling to Orange County about 6 months ago and at this point, it has become so much more than a hotel to me. It genuinely feels like my home away from home.
I specifically chose The Ayres because it is family-owned and not part of a huge corporate hotel chain. I don't have a family, I am single, an only child and both parents have passed, so there was something comforting about choosing a place that felt more personal and welcoming. Loyalty is so important to me and I appreciate never feeling like just another guest.
I've now stayed here enough that I've gotten to know many of the staff, and they are another main reason I return. Rachel, Moses, Christopher, Riley, Hennessy, Omar, John, David, Chris, and Valerie are some of the people at the front who have been especially helpful and friendly to me at different times. Everyone has their own personality and way of making you feel welcome, but what they have in common is that they've ALL gone out of their way to help me when I've needed it. I typically extend my stays, and they always do their best to make sure I'm not inconvenienced by having to change rooms. I even spent my birthday here, which says a lot about how much this place has come to mean to me.
When you travel frequently, those little interactions mean more than people realize. Sometimes just walking through the door and seeing a familiar, friendly face can completely change your day. I genuinely appreciate that here.
The rooms are always clean, spacious, comfortable, and affordable. I stay in the Suites building and absolutely love how quiet and secluded it feels. The two-person jacuzzi tubs are a wonderful bonus, and I personally love the Suites pool because it feels more relaxed and adult-friendly than the main pool. They are also heated which is a plus!
Peace of mind when staying at a hotel is of key importance, especially when traveling alone. The have a wonderful security team who I constantly see walking the grounds and around the buildings all hours of the day and night. I have never felt unsafe here or worried about my car.
Parking is clutch! There is ample parking that is easy, convenient and free until 10pm. They do charge for overnight parking but it's still more affordable than most places and if you have guests over during the day, they don't have to worry about being towed. I believe Ayres corporate office is in the strip mall behind the Suites building so that yields another option.
When I travel and am busy, there are days I forget to eat. I have come to discover I need a restaurant on site and this place has one of the best! Probably the second or third biggest perk for me about this hotel. I have never had a bad meal. The portions are generous, the food is consistently good, and I love the family recipes.
They have wonderful indoor/outdoor dining with a beautiful and peaceful courtyard around a soothing fountain covered in flowers. The restaurant staff have always been welcoming, and I love that they're open until 11 PM. Their prices are super affordable and room service is only a $5 fee and comes VERY quickly. They have amazing breakfast, brunch and an all-day menu with a variety of options. Everyone will find something here they love.
The $5 happy hour and bar menu goes from 3:30-6:30 is another favorite of mine. Where can you find $5 drinks in SoCal?
Pro-tip, if you dine here on a Friday, order the Chef's homemade Clam Chowder. It's the best clam chowder I have ever had (and I am from the east coast)!
Another positive thing I have noticed is that the hotel seems to keep the same employees around, at least in the 7 months I have been staying here. This warms my heart because it says something about the environment. People generally don't stay at a workplace for long periods of time if they absolutely hate being there. Seeing familiar staff members over and over makes the hotel feel even more like a community rather than a revolving door of employees.
Of course, after staying as frequently as I do, I've also discovered that there are some things that could be improved. I had one particularly frustrating experience with a supervisor who argued with me over a policy that I later discovered was not actually true (and did not think it was in the moment). That experience prompted me to go through the hotel's website and policies more carefully, and I found a few other things that I think could use clarification or attention. (Why I gave 4 stars not 5).
I'm not mentioning this to take away from my overall experience, but because I care enough about this hotel to be honest about it and with it. When a place becomes like your second home, you want to see it succeed and improve. I believe The Ayres has something special, and I would love to see the small issues addressed so that the guest experience can be as good as the people working there deserve it to be.
They don't need to hear me complain or voice my opinions about the same things each stay. These are small things that if I could fix, I would. Despite those things, my loyalty to this hotel hasn’t changed. In fact, it makes me more invested.
I’m loyal to The Ayres, its staff, the kind, quick and accommodating housekeepers, and its restaurant, and I sincerely hope they know how much their kindness, comfortability and consistency mean to guests like me. No hotel is perfect, and there are certainly things that can be improved, but when I look at the experience as a whole, the good far outweighs the bad.
I’ve been staying here biweekly and plan to continue doing so for the foreseeable future. I haven’t needed to look elsewhere, and honestly, I haven’t even had much interest in trying another hotel since discovering The Ayres.
If you are just looking for a quick summary, here goes: I appreciate the staff. I appreciate the restaurant. I appreciate the familiar faces, the quiet Suites building, the courtyard, the pools, the spacious rooms, the jacuzzi tubs, the easy parking, the security presence, the affordability and all of the little conveniences that make frequent travel easier and this place special. I highly recommend giving this place a try and supporting its restaurant.
For me, it has become home away from home — and I’m genuinely grateful for that.
