The Oxford Hotel has a lot going for it. The location is convenient, the rooms are spacious and comfortable, and the included perks, like the bourbon tasting, were a nice touch that made the stay feel a little more special.
Unfortunately, our experience was overshadowed by the noise and the surrounding area. The windows don’t seem to seal well, so outside noise comes through very clearly. We were awoken in the middle of the night by extremely loud music that literally shook the room. While still trying to fall asleep, we heard gunshots on the street below, right next to our room. The incident resulted in two people being injured, and while that’s obviously beyond the hotel’s control, the lack of sound insulation made the situation even more unsettling.
We had booked the hotel for a romantic getaway, but the constant noise and overnight violence outside made it anything but relaxing. The hotel itself has many positives, but based on our experience, we wouldn’t choose it again for a quiet or romantic stay.
Outstanding property! Among our favorite hotels to stay. The history and charm combined with location make it a perfect choice. The staff are always warm and welcoming - several who have been with the hotel for many years. The rooms are comfortable and relaxing. Plus, a bourbon tasting each evening is a nice touch. Highly recommended.
A bit on the pricey side, but the staff was friendly and helpful! It was also in a great location. Very close to Union Station.
Wonderful experience start to finish! Beautiful decor, helpful staff, breakfast was fantastic, I even loved the lotion in the bathroom:). Hope to return again!
The hotel was very nice. Our room was big and so comfortable. The staff was eager to help in any way and very friendly. The location was absolutely perfect! It is just a few steps from union station with everything at your fingertips. Lots of wonderful eateries in easy walking distance.
Great stay! Staff was amazing and the location was perfect. Restaurants and activities were nearby, and the hotel shuttle/Lyft partnership made navigation so easy! Highly highly recommend!
It was the absolute perfect place to stay for our trip! An elegant atmosphere in the middle of everything. We were across from the Union Station where we met our rides to various activities. The room was beautiful and very clean,! The beds were very comfortable, and the staff were especially accommodating! Can’t wait to go back!
Keep your receipts. I was promised that my incorrect charge was taken off at check out only to see that I was charged for the wrong amount. Lost time I don't have disputing the extra charge. Location is great, staff is trying. Hotel is old, has some mystery/musty smells. We go to Denver often, won't stay here again.
Great location and such a wonderful place to stay. The room was clean and the staff amazing!! Loved it!!!
Not a thing!!
The Oxford lived up to its reputation from the building, ambiance, staff, and food. We got a free upgrade and our room was amazing. We loved the food and the 5 o’clock Bourbon tasting led us to purchase a bottle. We will be back and highly recommend.
Prior to the stay at The Oxford, but well after I made the reservation and backed it up with a credit card, a staff member from the hotel emailed me to say my card wasn’t going through, that I had provided to make the reservation.
That email contained a link where I could enter another form of payment to take care of the reservation.
I did not try the link.
Instead, I called Capital One, to ask why the transaction wasn’t processed when I had a zero balance on that card and my limit was well above the transaction from what The Oxford required from me for payment. The credit card company emphatically stated there was nothing preventing the transaction from going through. And, that nothing had been presented from them in any attempt to gain their deposit for this request.
So I contacted The Oxford to report what happened when I put everything together from the call to the credit card company.
The staff member at the hotel was curt to begin with, almost incredulous in tone that it could be by any fault of The Oxford, and was happy to end EVERY sentence with a “no problem.” tacked on to ensure I was aware of their intent to inform on the fact they were superior and this was beneath them for having to go through, and why didn’t I just use a card that worked from the start.
Incredible.
But I continued the call wanting this resolved considering the reservation wasn’t for myself, but, a friend of more than two decades that I was surprising by getting her the Presidential Suite at The Oxford to stay in while she was here visiting.
The staff member on the call continued and I provided my American Express card instead, wanting to ensure everything worked out perfectly. We concluded the call by me providing, once more, my friends name that would be staying at the hotel, which wasn’t on the reservation, despite knowing I had initially provided it online, and the staff member again stating “no problem”, at the conclusion of their teaching me I was an idiot who not only must have bad credit, but accentuating I must be an idiot, as well. Call finished. No problem.
My biggest concern was ensuring my friend would be taken care of, not someone so rude and unprofessional they didn’t understand the premise of how one should approach adversity while being employed in a service based entity.
The day my friend arrives, she enters The Oxford, begins the check in process and the entire thing falls apart, all over again.
With none of the information I called in to take care of previously being followed and my friend being made to look like an idiot, too, despite having nothing to do with making the reservation.
She was told the MasterCard wouldn’t go through, despite all the time it took along with the admonishment by their staff toward me in straightening out the reservation. I changed it to the American Express. But no one was listening. She was told her name wasn’t on the reservation. It absolutely was. But no one was listening. She was told that she, not the hotel, would have to contact me to iron this out.
Everything eventually gets fixed. The card went through. My friend is in the suite I originally reserved.
However.
The level of lacking professional experience, support and attitude will never get me to ever recommend, let alone stay at The Oxford.
I, too, work in a service based industry. I architecturally design and then renovate, as a general contractor, historic buildings and homes, most of which are listed with the National Historic Society. So I travel. A great deal. I work with many people of varied backgrounds and circumstances involving every level of emotion during a grueling process attempting to make something beautiful out of something old and sometimes unfit to occupy. Empathy is crucial. And it really is effortless to project.
There is a way to comport oneself in any circumstance, in any industry, when someone reaches out for help and you seem to be the sole holder of the key to making everything okay again. The Oxford is bereft of empathetic staff with anything closer than expertise running a failing Motel 6.
A card not being processed correctly on their part.
Attitude and unprofessionalism on their part.
Lack of communication on their part in providing new information to correct the situation.
Unbelievably turning someone away and making them go fix the situation when it was completely a transaction between myself and the hotel.
Helping to make my friend feel uncomfortable, checking in at night in a city she doesn’t know, in a place of business that touts itself as premier yet is absent when a customer needed them most.
If the utterance “no problem” is the foundational driving principle of what The Oxford stands for, the market will sort them out soon enough. No problem.
This hotel was excellent! And the moment we arrived, the valet took our car, and we were greeted at the front desk and checked in where we received a really neat original key for the room. We had a corner room so the windows were incredible. The room was clean, and honestly better than I expected. The vibe of this hotel, elegant nostalgic. Highly recommend
My team stayed here during our company offsite.
The vibe is curated and classic, but my room was refinished and modern.
All of the staff were extremely friendly, greeting us on departure/arrival.
Good gym.
Location was perfect for a short visit to Denver, with a ton of food/cafes/activities within walking distance.
Great Old Style Hotel that treats you very well! My only complaint would be the noise from outside the hotel, even at 3:00 AM. Very convenient to Union Station.
You can't beat the location or the friendliness of the staff. Less than a block from Union Station and the 16th street corridor with its free shuttle makes almost everything in Denver close by. Lovely old hotel with many original features. The Oxford has its own style - which we loved.
Cost very high. Location incredible. "Old-time feel" really good. Enjoyed the continental breakfast and the bourbon tasting. Two ladies on the staff we dealt with most of the time were extremely friendly and very helpful.
There is no better location! I found out last minute I would be making the trip solo. The staff at The Oxford made my stay a pleasure, especially the guys at the front door, who set me off in the mornings with a smile and tips for travel. I loved the continental breakfast and coffee. The rooms are small, no view, but classic, clean, and comfortable. The bathrobe is to die for - I want one! The massage at their spa was super convenient after a day of hauling luggage. I don't want to stay anywhere else!
