The hotel itself is gorgeous but unfortunately during my entire stay the AC didnt work and it was 95 degrees outside which meant the rooms were roughly 80 degrees and getting warmer. The hotel staff didnt offer any remedy and claimed they couldn't do anything and this was extremely disappointing for a kimpton and not the experience you expect to have at a newer hotel.
The fact that the rooms were all saunas.
Die Lage und Einrichtung
Es gab kein fließendes Wasser!
Newness! Location is absolutely perfect for exploring NYC- right in the heart of the biggest sites. The staff were unbelievably helpful and friendly too. Our room was so clean and the bed was really comfortable.
Nothing at all!
L’emplacement, la qualité de la literie, le personnel
Evelyn and Melissa were really helpful!
I had a wonderful stay at the Kimpton and everything was simply perfect from start to finish. The atmosphere, the attention to detail, and the overall experience truly exceeded my expectations.
A special thank you to the entire staff for their kindness and professionalism. In particular, I would like to mention Julio and Ernst, who made us feel genuinely welcome and well taken care of throughout our stay, and all the front desk staff!
Their hospitality made a real difference.
I travel to New York often, and this will definitely be one of my go-to places from now on. Looking forward to coming back soon—well done to everyone! ! Bravo Bravo !
Beware of Lucy Shulman
We had a contract in place with Ashbel, yet upon arrival (at midnight, in the rain), two of our guests were told they did not have rooms due to a date error on the hotel’s end. At the front desk they were told there was no availability, we were forced to book a room online at the last minute—at a rate exceeding $500, and not honoring the contracted rate.
The second guest was placed in a makeshift setup within a larger suite (penthouse), where she had to sleep on a pull-out sofa. This was not an acceptable accommodation, especially given the circumstances.
Following this experience, we requested to move our next contracted stay to another Kimpton property (Eventi), which had confirmed availability for our group. The request was denied. Lucy Shulman, the hotel’s Director of Sales & Marketing, did not offer a workable solution and provided inconsistent explanations for why the change could not be accommodated.
Between the reservation error, lack of accountability, subpar room arrangements, and unwillingness to provide a reasonable solution, this experience fell well below expectations. Additionally, the rooms and bathrooms are notably small.
We will not be returning to this property. This matter has been escalated to IHG corporate

The hotel was always clean, the reception desk personal were friendly and the hotel always smelled good. We also loved the 4pm open bar they did in the lobby. Great experience.
When arriving to the room every night, we identified that the carpet was not cleaned. It was consistently full of dust and dirt.
Had a fantastic time at this lovely hotel in Murray Hill. Our room overlooked Park Avenue and the Church of Our Savior. The rooms are nicely appointed, with a take on mid-century modern style, and make the most use of space and even though the bathroom is small there is everything you need. Lobby is spacious, colorful, and has great collection of coffee table books from Assouline on various world destinations. We originally booked a room with two beds, but as they were sold out they gave us two rooms next to each other which worked out well.
Staff was very friendly and Anthony at the front desk allowed us to have a later check out.
Only suggestion I have is for a dedicated staff to clean up after wine hour- when I came back after dinner there were lots of empty beer bottles and wine glasses left in the lobby by guests and it would have taken very little time for a staff member to remove them. Either that or they should discontinue to offer it as not all guests are mindful.
My stay at the Kimpton Ashbel was nothing short of amazing. From the moment I stepped foot into the hotel, I felt so welcomed. The staff was great and always ready to help with a smile on their face.
My room was extremely clean, the mattress was so comfortable, and the interior decor was beautiful. You could see just how much detail went into this hotel.
The location is unbeatable, with the Empire State Building right nearby, restaurants all around, and a train station just a few short blocks away.
I'd recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the city.
Nice new hotel in midtown. Very clean, friendly staff and rooms are well designed. I visited during the soft opening phase. Rooms are very small, in line with a small boutique hotel.
This hotel could be good. The location is great. The staff is very hospitable. The space is small but sweet. But Kimpton totally dropped the ball on the details that make a hotel a good place to stay. Our bathroom window is so drafty it feels like it is wide open. There was no hot water in our shower the first day (they fixed this). There are no mugs in our room, just plastic wrapped to go cups. There is no creamer, sugar, etc for the in-room nesspresso. There is only one hook in the bathroom. There is someone stationed by a pile of plastic wrapped pastries in the lobby but no coffee for the breakfast service. And they have a lovely sitting room that is visible but roped off and unavailable to guests. A little bit of thought would have gone a long way here..
We had the most wonderful experience at this hotel. Everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful, from those at the front desk, to the doormen, to housekeeping. We thoroughly enjoyed the happy hour each day from 4-6, thank you! The rooms, hallways and main areas were very newly updated and extremely fresh and clean. Love the vibe. Location can't be beat. I think I've stayed just about everywhere in NYC and this will be the place I return to. Thank you for a truly fantastic stay!
Great hotel, newly refurbished, rooms excellent, very comfortable. Staff were so welcoming and friendly and always eager to help. Location is excellent.
Absolutely loved my stay at the Kimpton Ashbel! This amazing new hotel is perfectly located — you can walk just about everywhere, with tons of great restaurants and bars right around the corner. It’s the kind of spot that makes exploring New York easy and fun.
The staff were genuinely friendly and welcoming, which gave the hotel a warm, relaxed vibe from the moment I arrived. It feels fresh, stylish, and already like a place I want to come back to again and again.
I’m counting down the days until the coffee shop opens — that’ll be the finishing touch. Until then, I’ll just have to plan my next visit. Can’t wait to return!
Avermi dirottato in un altro hotel il giorno prima del soggiorno
I agree with the many reviews listed below mine. If I could give a negative rating I would. We booked this hotel back in September for December 26-30th. The hotel is apparently under renovations and they are not complete. We got a cancellation email 9days prior to our trip to the city with many non refundable activities booked. When contacting IHG, I was disconnected 4 times speaking with 5 representatives. None of the representatives were able to find accommodations within the city for 4 guests. The last manager I spoke to stated the best solution would be to book two hotel rooms at a higher rate at our expense. We had to book a hotel with a different chain and much higher rate. When we called back to IHG to make this right. A rep offered 25k points, transferred us to a senior manager who offered us “20k points, max I can offer” 25k points is less than one nights stay with IHG. The hotel chain does not care of the inconvenience they have caused.
Bottom line, who knows when this hotel will be ready to accommodate guests? No one truly knows but they are continuing to take reservations.
I would give negative rating if I could. I booked in early October for a stay in mid December. At the time of booking, I knew the hotel was under renovation, but would reopen in November. Received an email from the hotel on Dec. 10th telling me they would reopen on Dec. 10th & they were ready to welcome us on Dec. 13th. We arrived on the 13th in the afternoon, the doors were locked! I did not receive any communication from them between the email on the 10th saying they were reopen to the 13th when we arrived. It was a terrible experience standing in the cold and tried to figure out where to stay that night. Called the phone number listed on their website. There was no answer. We had to find another property in the hurry when snow was coming that night. Needless to say, be careful booking this hotel.
