Outstanding
Everything was excellent
James is awesome. His recommendations were great. The atmosphere was nice and welcoming in a rain weather. Thank you so much
Fabulous hotel. Excellent room, great high tea and restaurant. A memorable place to stay.
Would definitely stay again and really a highlight of our time in Scotland.
Loved the room and the location.
More sun, less rain, LOL
The Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh is a gem. Their staff is top notch. Exemplary customer service from top to bottom. Anything I asked of them, they delivered speedily and with a smile. The spa is beyond wonderful in every way. The location is perfect and I was especially a fan of the well appointed bathroom!
This grand old dame of Scotland looms over Edinburgh with it's allure, out of reach of many. It is a great hotel, the staff were mostly down to earth, welcoming and very friendly. Our beautiful dog River was the centre of attention from so many staff and the mostly American guests, he was treated like a little VIP. The pool is gorgeous and relaxing. Our junior suite castle view was grand, but for the £1800+ per night we paid, the bathroom wasn't very impressive, no bidet, towels like stiff sandpaper, just not what I expected from a suite at that rate. Otherwise, a brilliant stay. We only booked on the day of arrival, a balmoral doorman greeted and assisted us at train platform. Still reigns supreme over its competitors.
We have just returned from a relaxing 5 night stay at The Balmoral. Absolutely fabulous. All staff super friendly and everything runs so smoothly. Good choice of food at breakfast. Recommend the eggs Benedict. Dined in the brasserie prince too. Food really really good. Thank you to all for looking after us during our stay. Baron Wilkinson of Roomer Common!!
We travel internationally 2-3 times a year and chose the Balmoral Hotel for our first trip to Edinburgh primarily because we love the Rocco Forte in several other countries. Unfortunately, the Balmoral fell far short of the RF brand.
We rented three top-end suites for a multigenerational extended family stay and expected service and amenities that would match the cost. No such luck - rock hard mattresses, AC that struggled to barely cool the rooms, dingy carpets and plenty of beat up or cheap furniture. Food was mid, breakfast buffet was okay but nothing special.
But most disappointing was the service. Housekeeping left dead flowers and used glasses on our welcome platter. The mini bars were never replenished without multiple requests. Calls for room service took forever or just didn’t come. And when we arrived for a tour arranged by the hotel, the guide didn’t show up because the Balmoral didn’t follow up on confirming the tour…but they blamed it all squarely on the tour company.
To be fair, the concierge was apologetic about the lapses with our stay and gave us some comps - but of course we cannot have back the time or repeat this trip for awhile. So wish it had been better!
If you’re wanting a five star travel experience - look past the Balmoral Hotel for now.

Everything was great. This is as perfect as it gets in real world
Some towels are aging
As part of my retirement last year, I received a lovely gift, an overnight stay for two with a Seven Course Tasting Menu in Number One, and full Scottish Breakfast the following morning. Unfortunately we couldn't attend until a year later, and the hotel were more than helpful in arranging a stay just over a year later.
And from the moment of arrival yesterday, we recieved nothing but excellent, friendly service from every member of staff that we came into contact with. Nothing was too much trouble, and the professionalism came through from everyone without exception.
Our Executive Room with the Old Town View was really nice, and had been upgraded before we'd arrived.
Number One for our Tasting Menu was a great experience and each and every course was delivered with a lovely explanation of what was being offered.
And to cap it off, our Breakfast in the morning was another great experience.
We can't recommend this experience enough, and we'll definitely be back.
Localização, conforto, gentileza dos funcionários.
Tudo muito bom.
Location good, but we have travelled all over the world and feel like this hotel was not up to our expectations considering the cost
The shower over the bath was ridiculously very dangerous
Location
Overpriced
Beds not comfortable
Short of staff
This is my second time writing a review because the first time there was a glitch in the system and vanished.
I had an amazing time with Mikey. I had a whole list of things that I wanted to see, but on top of it, he was able to add items that I didn’t even know of. Which were great because I am a movie buff and I got to see scenes that were from both Bollywood and Hollywood movies. I had the opportunity to explore multiple castles and towns. I only spent a day with Mikey, but I was able to see so much of Scotland even in that one day. He did a phenomenal job. If I am to come back to Scotland with family, I will definitely reach out to Mikey to show us around.
