Location to UVA Hospital
My husband is battling cancer for the second time in 11 years. We love the care that we receive at UVA and the options that we have for treatment. What we love about this particular Hampton Inn is how convenient it is to the Cancer Center/hospital. And it is very comfortable and the staff are friendly. It is almost like taking a mini vacation in the middle of fighting cancer. And my son lives an hour closer to Charlottesville than he is from our home which makes it especially nice! 😊
The traffic in the area due to lots of construction (which is actually a good thing for the school and the hospital).
The convenient location to downtown
Having to pay for parking. We would've chosen another hotel had we known
Walking distance to hospital
Noisy
Unimpressed with this hotel. This was the worst night stay on our entire trip in the state of Virginia. I was between two hotels, this one or the Omni and by the next morning I was wishing I had chosen the other hotel. The bonus to this hotel was the walkability to places in downtown Charlottesville. Plus, if you are an Amtrak traveler, this is close to the station (we were not train travelers). If you do drive your car, be aware that you will be paying an additional $20 to park in their lot.
Check-in was no problem, but once we got to our room my husband mentioned how the room smelled very musty.
That evening was our worst night of sleep on the entire trip, the mattress was no comfortable and the pillows were flat. I believe our other hotel locations spoiled us with alternate pillow options on the bed. This was one of our poorest nights of sleep on our entire trip.
The breakfast was eh, with the continental breakfast less than spectacular. They had fruit available, but it was in the main lobby with every single fruit wrapped in Saran Wrap.
The next morning I discovered that someone had left their eye drops and it had rolled up against the bed, showing how well the previous cleaning staff did in the room. Did make me wonder about the cleanliness of the rest of the room at that point. Also, I did leave the bottle there for the next guest, wondering if it is still there today. I'm not willing to travel back to the hotel to find out if room 221 has a bottle of eye drops against the bed.
All in all, there are better hotels in the area I would recommend visiting.
Location was walking distance to many attractions.
Location and comfortable bedding.
We enjoyed a very adequate breakfast, and took a coffee to go.
At checkin there was no mention of a $20 fee to park. I was not aware In had been charged until I read the emailed invoice. In retrospect I checked the website, and did see the parking fee was listed. So now I'll do a better job of researching upcoming stays.
Did not eat breakfast. Fasting for test.
